Hi sweet friend! Maybe this social distancing has done a number on me or maybe I’m just a little fruity. Haha! But I thought it’d be fun if we pretended to plan a fun spring day together. Are you game?
If you were to come for a visit today…in a different time that is…we’d arrange to meet up at a nearby coffee shop. You might recognize me first, but I’d quickly spot you, too. You’d be grinning ear and ear and sporting a really darling outfit. I’d remark on how stunning you look, and you’d compliment my red and black outfit, too, undoubtedly. I’d thank you and gush about how everything I’m wearing is marked down. Yep, every single thing!
I’d ask you to tell me your story, because that’s how I often get to know new friends. So you’d need to be prepared to give me the highlights…and the lowlights if you’re willing…of your life up to now. While sipping occasionally on my no-fat latte, I’d lean in and listen. I’m so thrilled to get to hear all about you!
After we finished our drinks, we’d head toward my favorite mall. It’s got all our favorite stores! Well, actually Talbots is across the street from it. We’d better park the car at the mall and then walk on over to Talbots so you could check out these Hampshire Ankle Pants. They come in petite, long and curvy fit, too, and several other colors, including white and a nice gypsum beige.
Because you’ve fallen in love with my red Everlane loafers, you would decide to try on Talbots’ red driving moccasins. I would have told you that I have two pairs of those and find them to run true to size and feel very comfortable. PLUS, they’re part of Talbots’ Spring Sale!
You and I would browse around Talbots a bit. I’d show you my black and white gingham shirt, pointing out how the fabric is contrasting underneath the collar and cuffs. You’d grab it along with this black and white polka dot version (or maybe this sleeveless rosebud and white gingham shirt…if you’re from somewhere that’s already getting hot!) and head to the fitting room. I might point out my red and white toile scarf and my white bangle, noting that they’re part of the Spring Sale, too.
After playing dress-up in the fitting room for a while (The sales ladies at Talbots know me pretty well by now. They’re use to me taking a while!) we’d trek back across the street to the mall, dropping our packages at the car before heading into Nordstrom. We’d be getting there just in time to check out some of their Spring Sale finds, too.
But first, girl friend, we’d go to the Nordstrom Cafe Bistro for lunch! We could share a pizza, get salads or order different sandwiches and split them. But I’d have to get a cup of their amazing signature tomato soup, too. Yum! By now we’d feel like old friends and we’d be laughing and sharing funny stories and tales about our families. We’d almost forget there’s more shopping to do! Almost that is.
Before heading out into the mall to browse, we might stop by the handbags at Nordstrom, where we’d find my Tory Burch black leather hobo bag. But you’d point out that it’s also available in a few other great shades, including a new brilliant red. Of course we’d check out all the handbags included in the Spring Sale, too! Oh my. So many great finds!
Walking toward the entrance to the mall, I’d point out these Kate Spade sparkle stud earrings I’m wearing. They don’t have them in black anymore, but these clear and gold ones are significantly marked down. And they’re perfect for dressy occasions…or days just like today!
Girl, we’d go from store to store, hitting favorites like Banana Republic (where I love their basic Supima cotton v-neck tees), Ann Taylor (where everything is 50% off + another 10% off with code TAKECARE and I just ordered this hot pink smocked shell and these white shorts as well as these super chill looking easy straight leg jeans), Madewell (where I’d convince you to at least try on these mid-rise classic straight leg jeans), J.Jill and Chico’s (where we’d get 40% off our purchases with code 29336). We’d be drop-dead exhausted when we looked at our phones and discovered the day was getting away from us.
Well, there would be no time to rush home and cook dinner, so we’d just call our husbands and tell them we’d be late. They’d need to fend for themselves on this pretty spring evening! We’d jump in the car, run by my favorite ice cream parlor for cones to go (a scoop of buckeye blitz chocolate chip for me, please!) and then head to a nearby park for a stroll. Well, who are we kidding? Our feet would be killing us at this point, so we’d just sit on a bench and lick our ice cream cones, enjoying the sounds of spring and the sweetness in the air. The perfect capstone to a wonderful day!

What is your heart set on? Sometimes I mistakenly set my heart on faulty things. I’ve cast my security on people, positions, pay checks and promises of good things to come. But only God is worthy of our complete and total trust. We can know for sure that He alone has the power to make us feel loved, significant, purposeful and secure.
Today let’s check ourselves and see if we are counting on anything or anyone to make us happy and complete other than God. If so, let’s confess that to Him. Then, let’s ask Him to fill us with everything we need to be complete and whole in Him.
Put no trust in extortion;
set no vain hopes on robbery;
if riches increase, set not your heart on them.
Once God has spoken;
twice have I heard this:
that power belongs to God,
and that to you, O Lord, belongs steadfast love.
For you will render to a man
according to his work. ~ Psalm 62:12-12
Awesome. I love your platform…beauty and God focused.
Thank you.

Sounds like we had a wonderful day and I really enjoyed getting to know you better (& I love all the deals we found while shopping today.) Hope you have a great day.
I had a great time. Thanks for inviting me. Plus, love shopping with you – you have great style!!
Kay…..You are an excellent storyteller. Such a creative and entertaining post. The imagery and details were awesome. I was able to envision myself truly spending the day with you. I loved the entire shopping experience and as well as our lunch at the Nordstrom’s cafe. What a treat! Let’s plan to meet up again soon.Your post definitely started my day off in the most delightful way. I’m still smiling.Thank you so much. Hope you enjoy your day.
Enjoyed the day!!Gingham shirt is a favorite, along with the ice cream.
Parking at the mall and walking over to Talbots! Why had I never thought of that!?!
I hate getting in and out of that parking lot. Clearly my days are dreadfully exciting these days…I might have actually uttered the phrase “life changing” when I read that 🤣
This was so fun Kay! I could picture us standing in the Bistro lane taking turns holding our place while the one ran over to check out those cute summer Eliza J dresses. 💕

I loved spending the day with you! You covered a lot of ground 😂. It’s always fun to look at all the different items and store them away on my “ want list”. Thank you for a wonderful day 🙏.
Oh my goodness – what a fun post! ‘Our day’ just made me smile! Black and navy bottoms are two of my favorites to wear in early spring and spring, rather than the brights and pastels on my bottom half. I always enjoy seeing how to style black and navy this time of year. Hope you have a blessed day!
So enjoyed spending the day with you!! This would be fun “in real life” for sure! 🙂
Thanks , Kay! Loved spending the day with you! Your outfit is stunning; so perfect for a day out!
Thanks for the reminder of God’s sufficiency in all things.
Have a blessed day,
Suzanne
That sounds like a fantastic day! I could definitely use one of those right now ! Thank you for the virtual “shop til we drop” experience! I have a dear friend who lives in Arizona, (I’m in Wisconsin) and when she comes for a visit, we always have a few of those fun days.
Boy, we sure had a great day of shopping, eating, and getting to know each other better. I so appreciate the invitation since I don’t have girlfriends that I can do things with. Let’s plan on getting together again, and maybe we can invite our husbands to join us for a bite. You are definitely a great writer! And your style is casually classic. Oh, I stand corrected on the extension date for the stay at home in GA. It is actually April 30, not the end of May, which is the ending date for a state of emergency. I hope you have a great day!
Very fun post!!! I really enjoyed it! It’s going o be a dreary weather day here but imagining this day with you brought sunshine to me!

Thank you Kay for your inspiration and reminder that God is the center of our hearts. The sunshine is shining here in Dallas and I just ordered a pair of red Talbot’s loafers on our shopping trip. Thanks for your guidance on God’s love for us, and options to make us look great every day.
Sounds like a lovely day. Thank you for this post.
What a special day out and about with you Kay! I enjoyed every moment with you! You are very creative! Let’s get together again soon! ❤️

It was awesome getting to know you and all about you!! It was an awesome experience shopping with you!! Sitting on a bench eating ice cream at the park was a perfect way to end our day together!! Maybe someday we will meet each other!! (🙏)

This post certainly brought a smile to my day!! I just picked up my groceries curbside, came home and cleaned everything off and then sat down to read emails. Kay, I thoroughly enjoyed your fun, creative post today! You are such a Dear! And a fabulous writer! Blessings on you and your family!❤️
My favorite thing to do, shopping and lunch with a good friend. It was so nice to pretend life was back to normal. In the meantime, we have to shop online. Jjill has 50% off today so I shopped there. Thanks for the fun time!!
Hi Kay,
Loved using our imagination to go out shopping, having lunch and getting to know each other. I believe we are made to be in community, which makes these times difficult. But it also reminds me of somewhere in His word, when He asks us to be still, and Know I am with you. I wonder if this is supposed to be a time of quiet, reflection, and getting deeper into to his Word. Praying eyes are being opened.
I wanted to mention to you that our Pastor is going to be doing a Seder meal this eve., on you tube would love if you’d like to watch. We usually do it at church every year, but under the circumstances , not this year. We are New Hope Community Church Cincinnati. Our pastor is Brian Hoehler. Also, if any of your followers would like to watch, that would great.
We had the honor of going to Israel this past Nov., with our pastor and many from church, and it makes this Holy Week and tonight’s Seder even richer.
Oh, and I love your posts and the clothes you put together.
Blessings, Susan
Oh, Kay! What a wonderful day! This day with you is almost identical to a day I spent several years ago with my dear friend Kae (Yep! Same name, different spelling 🙂 ) We had lunch, shopped at Talbots, Chicos, and J. Jill. We laughed together and had so much fun we talked about that day often over the next few years. I have a lump in my throat as I think about the fun we had and as I was spending the day with you. My dear friend is home in Heaven now as our wonderful Lord saw fit gather her to Him almost 4 years ago after a long battle with brain cancer. But that special day and many after it linger in my memory. Thank you for bringing it forth today. It is a beautiful spring day here in New Mexico, and I enjoyed our virtual coffee, shopping, lunch, and ice cream. I would have ordered the tomato soup too! In my mind, the mall we visited is the same one Kae and I would often stroll. It is open air and filled with lots of fun shops. One of our favorite diversions was alway Pottery Barn. May you see the Lord’s blessing on you today in perhaps a different way than you have before. 🙂
Thank you for a wonderful day, Kay! I had a blast spending the day with you, hope to do it again soon!
Rhonda
Thanks for the great day! Good thing I wore my gingham shirt and red shoes yesterday or we would have looked like twins! Today was colder so I was wearing a black and white striped cotton sweater, red puffy vest and straight leg pants. We would have looked great together. LoL!
This is the kind of day where my husband always ask the question, “You two spent the whole day shopping?” and I say, “No, of course not. We also had lunch and an ice cream cone.” This would be fun but you have to keep in mind that I may not take your advise. If I could do that, I wouldn’t have the messed up closet I have now.😚
I enjoyed our day together!Thank you for the experience! So good to get out of the house! I needed this. You’re a doll. Thanks again.
Love our imaginary day! Can’t wait to have normal days like that again. I love the mall you were talking about. It’s about 40 minutes south of me. My mom and I would go there about every other month or so. Stay well!
What a fun post! I hope you do another one like this someday. And how nice it would be to really meet in person and enjoy a day like the one you described. My mom and I used to bond like that, spending the whole day shopping, driving around town, having lunch and maybe even catching a movie. She’s been gone 7 years and our outings together are one of the things I miss the most.
You are a great storyteller. Your sermonettes are great, also.
