Spring continues to be cool and rainy here in Ohio, but I thought it would be fun to look forward to warmer days today. And when I think summer, I think straw bags. What about you? Do you love a straw bag for summer?
I remember my mom carrying a beautiful Etienne Aigner satchel purse for a number of summers when I was growing up. I thought it looked so chic and sophisticated. And I probably made a mental note that I, too, would someday carry a beautiful leather trimmed straw satchel during the summers…just like my mother. Hers looked something like this – structured and trimmed in this same color of leather.
So I’ve enjoyed including a straw bag in my summer wardrobe most years. I find them to be versatile, seasonally fresh and appropriate and fun to carry.
You can find most every style of handbag in straw or rattan. So you could choose to add a classic tote that would double as a beach bag (perfect for vacations!) or you could opt for a bag that you use on dressier occasions, such as a crossbody or clutch.
Straw Bags Available Now
Here are a few of my favorites that I’m currently finding available.
But those are just a small taste of the beautiful bags I found. And many of these are currently discounted for Mother’s Day. In fact, I remember now that the Mother’s Day of 1993 when I was expecting my second child, I bought myself a beautiful straw bag. So a straw bag might be a lovely gift to grant yourself this year. I will tell you that I have discovered in past years that straw bags get gone fast at the beginning of the summer and are hard to find later on.

Below I’ve created a shopping boutique with so many beautiful straw bag options. These and the other links in this post are affiliate links. By the way, these bags are from Nordstrom, Walmart, Target, Sole Society, Ann Taylor, Chico’s, Talbots, Bloomingdales and J.Jill. So there’s quite a variety of price tags, too.

Blessed for My Day
Yesterday morning as my daughter and I lingered over our coffee, we talked about struggles we’re facing right now. But these weren’t outward struggles; these were the wars we’re battling within. She confessed to me some feelings that were causing her difficulty in a friendship. And I confessed to her that I had become hurt and defensive over a message I’d received from a friend the day before. (My confession was that my hurt was my own fault; I was being prideful and easily offended.)
It’s amazing how much those out-loud confessions helped. Well, they helped me anyhow. I can’t speak for my daughter. But I know that confessing my pride to another trustworthy person helped me to stop nursing my hurt feelings and move on with grace instead. Do you need to confess a sin to another person? Not for forgiveness of your sin, but for healing.
Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results. ~ James 5:16
I have always liked straw handbags! They signal spring, summer, and all the major joys of the sun! I may have to get one.
Thanks for reminding me of the power of sharing with our daughters,
Suzanne
You bet, Suzanne. Thanks for dropping in! ☺️
You pick a very nice selection of straw bags. i got the cutest circle straw bag from amazon. My church was supposed to have a ladies tea at the end of April the theme was summer fun. so I thought it would be cute w a sundress. anyway at least i have a bag for the summer
Ahh, I’m sorry about the tea. But hopefully there will be others. Use the bag with joy anyhow. Thanks so much for sharing. 🥰
Praying that your daughter has a very safe drive back to ATL! My parents surprised me with an Aigner handbag when I was in high school. I held onto it until our Estate Sale back in 2016. While I do like straw handbags, the totes are larger than I like and so many of the structured ones are too small. I feel like Goldilocks when it comes to handbag preferences. I did look at some you shared and plan on looking more closely at the options from Target and Amazon. Have a blessed day!
Ahh, that’s a lovely memory, Ginger. Thanks so much for sharing. Have a wonderful day and thanks so much for the prayers.
What a wonderful topic for a post! Thank you, Kay! I had fun checking out the bags and might even purchase a clutch. Love the tie in with your mom, and the convo with your daughter. Just prayed for her road trip!
Thanks so much Jena. Have a blessed day. 🥰
For Pete’s sake – now I want them ALL! I love your taste…
Hahaha! Me too! Thanks for reading. 🙂
Kay,
I just want to say that I absolutely LOVE your blog! I look forward to reading it in the mornings. I know that you put tons of work into it and I always learn something new! I liked your you tube today also!
Appreciate all your hard work!
Cathy
I wish I could just pop myself into everything in the post with the pink gingham jacket. I love it all. That is a great little bag. You can’t beat straw for summer but I also like a macrame bag too.
They say confession is good for the soul. I know I feel better when I can just speak out loud to a friend what I’m feeling.
