Happy Friday, gals! Hopefully today James and I are setting out on a little adventure to see some part of our new “territory.” But yesterday I stepped into Ann Taylor for a bit to try on their new line of fall clothes, and I’m sharing my try-on session with you today. I absolutely loved most everything I tried on. AND you get 40% off your purchase through the weekend. Yay!
The nitty gritty
Now you gals know not to expect great photos in these try-on sessions, right? And these were taken with the phone I’m borrowing until I get a new one, so… They’re not even very good. But the main point here is to show you how the items fit on a real woman (hahaha!) and you can see the items in all their glory on the Ann Taylor website. Use code FRIENDS40 to get your 40% off. Oh, and through today only, full price pants and denim are an extra 10% off.
I’m 5’8″ and weigh about 150. I normally wear a 6 in jeans, 8 in pants, smalls and mediums in tops, 8 in dresses and 9.5 in shoes. And I’ll just go ahead and let you know that I found absolutely every item I tried on to fit true to size. Just in case I forget to tell you as we go!
The Audrey Pant in Houndstooth Bi-Stretch // I’m wearing an 8 in these bi-stretch pants, TTS. They fit pretty much like leggings and feel great on. They feature a high waist and a front fly detail that makes them look more like real pants. I think they’re quite suitable for the office or church. And they look so sleek and sophisticated…not like frumpy leggings at all.
Rib Trim Sweater in natural beige heather // This sweater is thick and yummy and soft. I’m wearing the medium because they didn’t have a small. I think the small would have been a little more fitted, but the medium works for me, too.
Reese Bow pump in frosted almond // I’m wearing these kitten heel pumps all the way through the try-on session. They fit true to size and I love the neutral color. You’ll see that they truly go with everything. The bow detail on the front is a nice touch, too.
Pointelle Poncho in pinkberry heather // When I first put on this “poncho” sweater I was concerned that maybe I was supposed to have on something under it. But it is designed to be worn alone. I say this because you feel kinda “naked” under it. It’s just very free-flowing and roomy. But it has a lovely drape and is oh so soft. I’m wearing the x-small/small and it’s plenty roomy on me. And of course, you could wear a fitted tank or cami underneath if you desired.
3/4 Sleeve V-Neck Luxe Tee in mystic navy // This v-neck luxe tee is a very thick t-shirt. And “t-shirt” doesn’t really do it justice. It’s a dressy, soft top. And it worked perfectly with this skirt because it has a slim fit. I’m wearing a medium, so I’d say to go with your higher size in this, just to accommodate the slim fit.
Doubleweave Button Tab Seamed Pencil Skirt in yellow plume// Unfortunately I just noticed that this pencil skirt is almost sold out online. It’s a sleek, versatile skirt and fits true to size. I’m wearing my usual size 8. I think this is a nice way to participate in the “yellow trend” without getting it too close to your face.
The necklace I’m wearing above and in a few other photos doesn’t seem to be available online. But this one is similar.
The Straight Pant In Herringbone black // I’m wearing my usual 8 in the modern fit. These classic pants also come in petite, tall and curvy fit. I’m 5’8″ and they’re just the right length for me. These pants have just enough stretch to be comfortable without sacrificing a classic, tailored silhouette.
Essential Shirt in winter white // I recently purchased this blouse in vintage blush and will be showing it 3 ways on the blog next week. I think Ann Taylor does silky blouses like nobody’s business. And for some reason I’m just into silky blouses this year. I think I’ve now bought four. You’ll see a few more of them in this post. I’m wearing a medium in this cut, but I bought smalls in the others. I think this one just fits a little closer to the body.
Tortoiseshell Print Ring Nugget Pendant Necklace // This necklace is a classic and elegant way to top so many of the pieces I tried on.
The Straight Pant in black // These are great basic black pants. They run true to size and have just the amount of stretch you would expect in classic, tailored trousers. They do have belt loops.
Floral Pleated Flair Dress in night sky // I’m wearing my usual 8 in this beautiful night sky navy polyester dress. Pleated skirts are very in right now, but I don’t think I could pull off one with thick, constructed pleats. This dress features a softly pleated skirt that moves beautifully with you. And of course it also features the dark florals that are so in. I really wish I had a wedding (besides my son’s) to wear this to! I’m in love. Oh, and I love, love, love the sheer sleeves.
Sculpting Pockets Skinny Jeans In Classic Rinse Wash // I wasn’t really planning to buy jeans yesterday, but I ended up coming home with these. They fit beautifully and I had been wanting some jeans in a very dark wash for a dressier feel. I think in this picture I actually had on the curvy fit, but I ended up getting the modern fit in my usual size 6. So these run true to size…for jeans.
Floral Mixed Media Blouse in cherry cola // I think what actually sold me on the jeans was how great they look with this silky dark floral blouse. Like I said, I’m crushing on silky blouses big time. And this one features a deep “cherry cola” red and navy. It looks lovely with the dark wash jeans. I got the small in this blouse.
Textured trouser belt in black // They didn’t have my medium in this belt, so here I’m wearing the large (and I’m hiding the overhang with my hand!). But from trying on both the large and the small, I’d say AT belts run true to your pant size. This one is a nice belt, if you’re needing one.
And this is just a freebie photo. I’m just showing you how the blouse looks untucked, as I know a lot of you don’t like to tuck your blouses. This blouse has a beautiful drape so it works really well both ways.
Long Sleeve Wrap Top in smoked garnet // I bought this same top in a different color last year, so I knew I needed a medium in this close fitting wrap top. But they didn’t have one, so I tried on the small. Sure enough, it’s just snug. But it’s a beautiful top if you need one in this silhouette.
The Ankle Pant In Plaid multi brown // Remember, you get an extra 10% off on pants over the 40%. I say that because if I were an office gal I’d snap these up in a heartbeat. They have every color in them, so you can wear them with so many things…as you’ll see. The pants have a bit of stretch, but the waist band is firm. They have a mid rise and come in curvy, petite and tall. Oh, and they’re washable, too.
Ann Cardigan in night sky // I’m wearing a medium in these Ann Cardigans since I knew I intended to wear them without anything under them. I wanted a nice roomy fit. If you prefer, and I probably would, you can wear one of these slim fitting camisoles underneath.
Heathered Ann Cardigan in pebbled melange // I wanted you to see how versatile these pants are and how different they look with different colored tops. But this heathered cardigan is just a sweet find by itself. Again I’m wearing a medium.
Seasonless Yarn Sweater tee in black // This short sleeve sweater tee fits true to size. I’m wearing a small this time. It’s a great basic thin sweater for wearing under a suit jacket or cardigan. And it’s available in a number of good colors.
Zebra Print Skirt // Uh, oh! This skirt is selling out fast. And it’s a winner. It fits true to size with a very flattering swing skirt silhouette. The fabric is soft and flowy, and it’s fully lined.
Mixed Media Bauble Trim Blouse in winter white // This is the ivory blouse I came home with. Really they have several I like, but I didn’t want to have duplicates of any of them. So I think I have one of each style now. I know. I’m obsessed. I got this one in a medium. It seems that I like the ones that button all the way up in a larger size, whereas I went with a smaller size in the ones that button up partially.
Oh, and in this photo I am wearing the skinny jeans in the modern fit, not that you can tell much from the photo. Ha!
Well, that’s a wrap. Overall, I thought Ann Taylor had some beautiful things in their new collection. So much of it mixes and matches nicely. So especially if you’re a working gal, you might want to give the website a look.
I’m updating my Shop My Ann Taylor Favorites page, too. So you can shop there for even more of the pieces I love. You can shop the widget below for the pieces I included in this blog post. Keep in mind that the 40% off is not reflected in the price. And you get an extra 10% off pants and jeans, just today. Use code FRIENDS40 to get your discount. Happy shopping! And have a happy, happy Friday!

We are responsible for the truth we know. Sometimes I need to be reminded of that. It’s not enough to read God’s Word or even to appreciate it. I need to heed it.
Today let’s examine our lives in the light of what we know. We know that God is just and holy. We know what His Word says about our sexual purity, our finances, our words, our relationships and our time. But are we consistently living in the light of His Word? We’re responsible to obey what we read.
And you his son, Belshazzar, have not humbled your heart, though you knew all this, but you have lifted up yourself against the Lord of heaven. ~ Daniel 5:22-23a
Good morning. Enjoy your blog. Have fun on mystery date. Sounds fun.
Thanks so much. Turns out we’re heading to a park here in Cincinnati where there’s also a museum. That way we can go inside when we get to hot!
Thanks, Have a great time on your day trip.
I imagine Ohio is beautiful now.
Thanks Mary. Well, it’s still pretty hot here. But we’re enjoying the green for now! I hope you have a lovely day, too.
I love Ann Taylor. Everything you tried on looked lovely on you. I hope you purchased it all. Haha!! You have really inspired me with your fashion savvy and your inspirational posts. Hope you have a Lovely Weekend.
Ahh, thanks so much Linda. I thought everything was lovely, too. But no, I didn’t come home with everything. Hahahaha! I’m kinda regretting not buying the poncho sweater. Hmmm…
You look great in all of these outfits!
Thanks sweet gal!
Good morning Kay! I love that James has planned a mystery date for today. That gesture melts my heart and makes me smile. So, I think you look so nice in all of the photos. My favorite looks on you are the skirt outfits and the dress. I can’t wait to hear about your day. ?
Thanks Ginger. We had a lovely day. ?
Hi, Kay. I’m just catching up with your posts and enjoying the try-ons and the style series for different body shapes. Like your clients in yesterday’s post I am a petite A shape who likes color. I am also a new subscriber who appreciates your classic style, store selection, and words of faith.
I follow most of your guidelines (It sounds more flexible than “rules”) for A’s but do wear long cardigans often. If they aren’t overly long or voluminous you can create a long column of color with dark pants and cardigan and then tuck a shorter contrasting top to create balance.
Please keep posting on Talbots, as they carry a full range of sizes. I see so many cute things on several blogs only to click and find out the item doesn’t come in petite, and I imagine that happens to tall and plus sized women as well.
Actually, sometimes I get frustrated with petite sizes too, because styles seem to be trending long and the petite range manufacturers use now is typically up to 5’4” or even 5’5” when it started out years ago at 5’2” or 5’3” and under. The average height of women in the U.S. is just under 5’4”, so go figure. (I’m 5’1”).
Enjoy your day and welcome to Ohio (I live in northwest Ohio).
Hi Suzi. Thanks so much for introducing yourself. I’ll definitely continue to post clothing from Talbots. It’s a favorite of mine too. I’m glad you are enjoying the blog! Have a lovely weekend. ?
Hi Ginger
I had to reply back to you, with your smile
and melted heart! What a sweet comment.
I can also relate to your comment because
I enjoy planning occasional mystery dates
for my husband.
Stay cool Ginger!
I love navy and yellow! It looks good on you.
