Happy Friday everyone! Do you have big plans for this weekend? Well I have a sharp, chic but oh so sweet outfit you could wear for almost anything you have going on. These black and white gingham shorts are going to be fun to wear all summer long. But for now, you might need to grab a jacket!
You may have already seen me style this magenta sleeveless shirt with my watermelon novelty shorts in this previous post. Because of its versatility it’s becoming a fast favorite. I have washed it and, while it’s touted as being a “non-iron” shirt, I felt like it did need a quick once over with the iron. Just so you’ll know. But I honestly don’t mind ironing a shirt that doesn’t have sleeves!
These black and white gingham shorts are also already a favorite. They’re similar to the solid black ones I wore in this post. I think they look polished and sophisticated, but they’re still casual, not fussy at all. You’ll undoubtedly see me style these again.
These gingham shorts are also available in red and white. Those would take a little more thought to style, but, depending on the rest of your wardrobe, they could make a beautiful addition. These shorts run true to size and have a 6″ inseam.
I love the way my white denim jacket pairs with these gingham shorts, but I could also top them with the white linen blazer I shared in this post.
You could certainly wear this sleeveless shirt untucked with these shorts, but I decided to tuck mine in and add a black belt (similar). I kept my jewelry simple but coordinating with a gold bangle (similar), my gold palm necklace and these magenta beaded sphere earrings. Unfortunately the magenta earrings are sold out, but they’re still available in white.
I’ve already been using this wicker and leather shoulder bag more than I thought I would. Honestly, I meant to return it after showing it a couple of times. But it’s not going anywhere! And it just wouldn’t be summer without some pretty gold sandals.
I wore this outfit on my recent Mother’s Day getaway at the Omni Tucson National Resort. It felt crisp and chic, but still comfortable enough to travel in. And I was glad to have the denim jacket because it was unseasonably chilly. Of course, you need sunglasses all day every day in Arizona, and these pretty pink ones complemented my outfit beautifully.
The beauty of this outfit is that it’s made up completely of classic pieces that will work so well in my wardrobe this spring and summer. Every piece here will mix and match with half a dozen other items or more. Learn more about building a wardrobe that works for you here.
I’ll be coming out with my Summer Wardrobe Essentials post (like my Spring Wardrobe Essentials post) and list soon. And you can bet you’ll be seeing several of these components there.
If you have any questions, please let me know. This is definitely a favorite outfit of mine. Do I say that a lot? I think I do. Hmm.

Are your children grown and gone? Or maybe almost grown and almost gone? As our children “age out” of our homes we may begin to feel like we don’t have as much influence on them. But I’ve found that our influence simply shifts.
As our children “fly from” the nest, they may not lean as much on us physically, financially, or even emotionally. But if they know that their mama is standing on solid ground, speaking daily to the King of the universe, growing in wisdom and sharing the grace of God, they are all the more able to “fly” with confidence and security. Your faith continues to be a refuge for your children and teaches them how to build their own fortress of trust in God for the days and years to come.
He who fears the Lord has a secure fortress, and for his children it will be a refuge. ~ Proverbs 14:26

Oh Kay! I love this outfit. I could wear that one everyday this summer. Coincidence or not I have a gingham pair of shorts ordered. I know the first outfit I am putting together since I already own the shirt! Thanks for all you do to help me look marvellous!
You just get prettier and prettier and this outfit looks terrific on you!!
Kay, Love this outfit!!!!! It looks great on you. Enjoy!
Thanks Robin. It’s a favorite for sure. ?
Kay, You look fabulous in this very classy, but comfortable shorts outfit! If I wore shorts on somewhat of a regular basis, I would copy this outfit for sure. I hope that you and James have a nice getaway. One of Larry’s sisters and her husband are headed to our home, for the first time, from MO. They will be here early this evening. We love being with them and are super excited! ? They have not seen us since Larry’s cancer became a problem back in 2016. I am honored that they are making the long drive to be with us for just 3 days. Unfortunately, the humidity has arrived, along with temps in the upper 80’s/low 90’s, but we won’t let that spoil our fun. Have a blessed day!
Great!! I hope you all have a wonderful weekend together. ?
This combination looks striking on you, Kay! I love a classic look as it is so polished.
Thanks Carla. I’m really enjoying wearing it. Yes, I’m all for the classics. Timeless!
:Perfect! One of my favorite color combo’s and a lover of gingham! You knock this one out of the park!! Have a great weekend my friend!!
