I have a confession to make. Yesterday I did two things. I baked a ham and Swiss and asparagus quiche and I ate a half of a ham and Swiss and asparagus quiche. Yep. That’s it. That’s absolutely all I did…until 6:00 p.m. when I finally got off the sofa and typed up this post. It was just one of those days. And, in the world we’re living in right now, I think that’s perfectly fine. For one day. But today I’m getting up and putting on the outfit I’m showing you here. I’m determined that getting dressed in something besides joggers and a tee is going to help me have a better attitude, a brighter disposition and (ahem!) more self-control. Hahaha! Am I asking too much of this casual jeans outfit???
These Madewell classic straight jeans are perfectly comfortable and easy to wear…for jeans. But let’s face it, jeans don’t let you lie on the sofa all day like joggers or sweats do. French women would remind us that jeans are not suppose to be comfortable; they’re supposed to make you look like you’re effortlessly chic.
Sale Alert: Madewell is offering their jeans today for just $75!!! That includes these classic straight jeans. Use code SWEETDEAL.
And that’s what I love about these classic straight jeans in Meadowland wash. They look effortlessly chic. I’m really loving the high rise, straight leg silhouette for jeans these days. They look modern and fresh. I’m wearing a 29 in these…but I won’t be much longer if I eat another half of a quiche today!
Of course, the best thing about this casual jeans outfit is that it’s every bit as comfortable and easy as jeans and a tee, but I’m wearing a sharp looking pullover cotton shirt instead. Yes, this pullover cotton shirt really is just as comfortable as a t-shirt. But somehow I’m much more prone to crank out work in it instead of slouching on the sofa while wearing it. Ha!
You’ve seen me wear these popover shirts several times before this spring, but this is the first time I’ve simply styled one with jeans. Go figure! In the end, this is perhaps the most classic way to wear this ultra soft cotton modal top. I’m wearing a medium, but I think a small would have worked. They just didn’t have one in the store to try. If you’d prefer a cotton popover with a print pattern and some color, you might want to check out this one.

I’m wearing the Julia Pointed flats in dark chalky pink, but they’re also available in leopard and zebra prints, as well as Tuscan sun yellow. They fit true to size.
I’ve enjoyed my leather Madewell tote for well over a year now, and it’s still my go-to bag when I need to carry everything and the kitchen sink. And don’t you love my wisteria dove multi bandana looped on the handle? But this little bandana is available in so many other equally pretty prints, too.
Finally, my British khaki trench jacket is still available, but sizes are going fast. I’m wearing a small. I have worn this little classic jacket so much this spring.
Truly, it doesn’t take much more effort to put on jeans…without a tee. And I do find myself feeling more productive and engaged when I take the time and put in the effort to dress up a little better.
Yesterday I pretty much bailed. And there’s absolutely no condemnation in that…especially in light of current circumstances. But today I’m putting on this simple casual jeans outfit…without a tee. And let’s see if my day doesn’t go a little better!

Blessed for My Day
I heard a sermon recently that reminded me that in the beginning all that God created was good. His intention was for us to only know good. While He knew the vast chasm between the good He created for us and the evil we were never meant to see, He never intended for us to experience anything but goodness, wholesomeness, purity. But Adam and Eve chose to eat of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, and their eyes were opened. And as a result, sin entered the world. Now we experience a broken world in every way.
Perhaps the ravages of this unleashed disease can serve as a stark reminder of the sickness that infects the soul of every man, woman, boy and girl. None of us are immune to the ills of sin. But there is a cure. There is hope. That hope is Jesus Christ. And “with His wounds we are healed.” Praise the Lord, we are healed.
But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turnedāevery oneāto his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all. ~ Isaiah 53:5-6
Oh My Goodness Kay, I had a very unproductive day yesterday and no motivation. Now that I am made to stay home for a whole month I have no excuse to clean out āstuffā. I am determined to get moving today and you have encouraged me. Have a great day. ~Lisa~
Yeah, I think that was part of my problem yesterday too. No motivation. I wish you a joyful day today. š
I look forward to your email every day, but I especially look forward to your blessing/prayer at the end. In this time of stress, we all need to remember Jesus loves us. Have a bless day, and keep up the great work you are doing! Even though I am much older than you, I find that our styles are very similar.
Thanks for sharing Tina. I appreciate you. š
How true, your “blessed” paragraphs! I love the classic simplicity of this outfit. It’s still very polished and modern and something I can very much relate to. I love dressing this way, and LOVE white shirts!! I’m drawn to them while shopping and this one you feature is especially cool! The quiche…..it happens, doesn’t it? Sometimes something comes out so good you just can’t resist. Yesterday I made macaroni and cheese, craving comfort food, and it’s easy to overdo when something is as wonderful as that! (Incidentally, I DID overdo!) Like you said though, it doesn’t happen every day! I’m so anxious for spring and will wear outfits like this and similar to this as soon as possible. Right now I still have to pull out the sweaters, but hopefully not for much longer!
Iām glad you enjoyed the post, Karen. This is a great shirt. So versatile. Have a lovely day!š·
I thought I was being pretty strong throughout this whole virus thing. We have a family business and employ about 40 people. Our 4 children all work with us. As we are essential, we are continuing to work. It is a lot of pressure on my husband because everyone wants him to have all the answers (he doesnāt!) and many of our customers are shutting down. Yesterday someone in our office got sick and now must be tested for the virus.
This morning, my teenage son gave me an unusually tight and long hug before he left for work. I lost it. Iāve been crying all morning. And thanking the Lord for our many blessings. And taking it day by day!
Bless your heart, Heidi. Thatās a lot of pressure. Yes, we really have to go gentle on ourselves these days. Hang in there. I think all we can do is the ānext thing.ā Blessings to you today. š
Thanks for sharing your story with us, Kay. We have all been there at one time or another. We need to give ourselves grace and then get moving.
Those shoes look so comfortable. Again, my kind of dressing!
Thanks for the message also.
Blessings to you and your family,
Suzanne
Thanks so much for stopping in, Suzanne. Yes, grace and get moving! Have a lovely day. š
Kay, Thank you for sharing about the funk you were in yesterday. You are keeping it real! I started off not feeling it yesterday because I felt fat and that got me down. Then I decided to do the Body Groove dance workout for the day, and that improved my outlook. This outfit is superb on you; the shoes are beautiful & that top is great. Today is a new day with the opportunity to make it a better day! How is your daughter doing? I really like the BFMD! š
I loved your post Kay and the outfit was killer. I swear it’s an emotional rollercoaster anymore, and bless our husbands who have to deal with our hormones as well as stress emotions. We were sitting at the table last night and we had an earthquake. . . in Idaho! The light fixtures started swaying, and I thought — are you KIDDING ME! While there was no damage here, it made me incredibly stressed. Today, I’m with you: workout, healthy food, devotions, no tee shirt and manage my emotions. Control what we can control and leave the rest up to God.
I have a little tiny Nancy Reagan on my shoulder saying,”Just say No” when I reach for a cookie. Sometimes it works. I love the touch of pink in the scarf to match the shoes! Wonderful. I never think of these things. You inspire me.
Did you ever wonder why God who knows all and knew Adam and Eve would sin, still decided to create us and to keep us? His Grace (certainly unmerited favor) abounds. Thank God!
Yes, Eve. He is a mighty gracious God. Thanks for sharing that today.
For some reason your posts are landing in my spam folder. I hate opening that to find you.
What am I doing wrong?
Love your casual outfit. We all have blah days.
Hi Pat. It happens! Just move it out of Spam back into your inbox and mark it not spam. Then make sure my address is in your email contacts list. It’s kay@kayharms.com. But it’s real important that you move the email out of the Spam folder and into your inbox before deleting it. That should take care of it.
Oh, I just love your transparency and how you show us that youāre no different than the rest of us. Hey, it could have been a whole bag of KitKatās. A quiche isnāt so bad. Ha!
Love your style and this outfit is perfect for these stay-at-home days when we are want to get out of active wear. š
Hi Kay, I returned to this post as I just received the trench coat from Talbotsāit was sold out in my size small but someone must have returned one! I love it so thank you for featuring it!
I noticed that you often didnāt tie the belt. Did you tie it behind the jacket or take the belt off completely?
Thank you! I love your posts with the inspiration you always do!
Hi Barb. Iām so pleased that you were able to get the jacket and that you like it. Evidently some people who reviewed the jacket didnāt like that itās unlined (on the Talbots website) but I actually think that makes it more wearable in the cool but not cold months.
In the photos youāre seeing Iām either tying it behind my back or tucking the loose ends of the tie belt into the pockets. Have a happy Motherās Day!
Hi Kay, I love everything about this outfit! It looks great on you. I normally donāt like pointy toe shoes, but these are really cute. I have been going to work everyday during this whole shut down, so my lazy/sit on the couch days are my Saturdays, and I am loving them!! Thanks for all of your posts, love checking them everyday. Take care and God bless! Cindy
Thanks so much Cindy. Iām glad you enjoyed the post. Have a great weekend!
