Casual Spring Look at a Sweet Price

Happy Monday! Let’s start this week off with a little spring style inspiration. While you may not yet be able to wear the sandals I’m sharing today, the rest of this outfit can be layered on and off depending on those ever-changing springtime temperatures. Plus the sunny yellow and pale pink in this combo are sure enough to perk up the most overcast day.

Casual Spring Look

I love layering a long sleeve button up shirt over a t-shirt like a jacket. After all “shackets” or shirt jackets are really trending high this year. So why not skip the trend and just wear the shirt? As a jacket! Ha!

Casual Spring Look

I’m wearing the same  Universal Threads high-rise vintage straight jeans that I wore in this post last week. I figure while we’re adjust our eyes to this more contemporary jeans silhouette we might as well see them styled a couple of different ways. Of course I’ll be styling similar jeans in other posts, too. But these high-rise vintage straight jeans are a great place to start if you’re considering this type of jeans because they’re a great price, they have a nice fit (I sized up to the 10 only because they didn’t have an 8 in the store) and they’re a mid wash.

Casual Spring Look

You can’t go wrong when you “choose kindness.” Plus this soft rose t-shirt qualifies as a graphic tee without being fussy or harsh. Know what I mean? Graphic tees continue to trend high and they’re such an easy way to add a youthful vibe to your outfit. I always look for one where the message or picture looks somewhat complete when peeking out from a cardigan or jacket or, in this case, button up shirt. My choose kindness tee runs true to size; I’m wearing a medium.

Casual Spring Look

My Universal Thread button up shirt is lightweight and almost filmy. But you could definitely wear it alone, too. I’m also wearing a medium here.

Adding a button up shirt over a simple tee or tank is a great style hack for most body types. But if you consider your body to be an apple or oval shape, this style trick is definitely your friend. Unlike a cardigan or jacket that can (but doesn’t have to) add bulk, a button up tee grazes your body, provides a little soft fullness but then creates the illusion of a more hourglass figure beneath. My button up shirt comes in several other nice plaids as well, and is available in sizes xs to xxl.

Casual Spring Look

My sandals are the only part of my casual spring look that isn’t from Target. But these Sonoma Goods For Life Artwork sandals from Kohl’s are another great deal and they’re really fashionable this year. Birkenstocks are one of the most predominant trends we’re seeing in footwear for spring and summer. They’re the shoes “all the cool girls” will be wearing. But when I saw these at Kohl’s I thought I’d try them out first and then maybe “advance” to the real thing. Phooey! These true-to-size, very comfortable Artwork sandals will do just fine for me, thank you very much! They’re available in other colors and textures, too.

Casual Spring Look

Of course, my yellow Universal Thread satchel works perfectly with this soft pink and yellow combination. I’ve had several readers tell me they’ve purchased this lovely faux leather bag and they all seem to be very pleased with it so far. It’s a great way to add the color of the year to your looks without wearing it, but it will also just compound or layer on this trending color if you do like to wear it.

Casual Spring Look

My hammered metal multi shape earrings finish off my casual spring look with a nice contemporary accent. You certainly could add some bracelets or even a necklace to this look, but I find myself really pulling back on jewelry lately. I’ve decided a little looks intentional and styled, but a lot sometimes looks excessive. But, hey. That’s just me. And it may even just be a phase I’m going through. Ha!

Casual Spring Look

This is the kind of casual spring look I’d wear on one of our monthly day trips to explore Ohio. But I’d also easily wear this for working from home, running errands or even going to a casual lunch with friends. I do hope we’re going to all be able to start getting out more soon. And when we do we’re going to be ready to look oh so stylish!

Blessed for My Day

I’m still right on track with my plan to read through the Bible this year. I’m doing much better than in years past, probably because I’m not trying to get kids out the door to school in the mornings. Ha! How are you doing with your plans for a daily devotional time? I’d love to hear from you today. It does us such good to stay accountable to someone in these things, you know.

Recently, as I was reading through my Life Principles Daily Bible, I was challenged by Charles Stanley’s note beside Psalm 34:1. He wrote, “If it’s not already your practice, praise God throughout the day. Exalt Him when you wake up, when you eat, when you leave the house, and when you return. An attitude of adoring trust in the Lord will make an amazing difference in your life.” Today I’m trying to begin this new practice of choosing to praise God throughout the day, using triggers like these to remind me.

I will bless the Lord at all times;
his praise shall continually be in my mouth. ~ Psalm 34:1

xoxo, Kay

  1. Refreshing spring colors Kay!!! What color is your nail polish? I really like it. Your BFMD reminds me of the song “ Ever Be” from Aaron Schust….great song by the way.
    Have a beautiful day!!!

  2. Yeah, for spring. I’m always surprised when Birkenstock’s are considered a trend. I’ve been wearing them for years. I love the Arizona for at home or when I used to go to yoga, and the Gizeh’s for out and about.

  3. Cute outfit but I am concerned that being only 5 ft 1 in that these jeans may be hard to get used to. I love my early morning time with the Lord and totally believe a Praise Life is a victorious life. Thank you and be blessed!

  4. It is snowing here in Minnesota today, so will not be wearing sandals today. Though I love wearing sandals. Can’t wait. Out fit you styled today is cute on you, but just too casual for me. I don’t think I will be purchasing these jeans or Birkenstock sandals. Not me, though some people say the Birkenstocks are comfortable.
Thanks for the BFMD. We have to remember to praise Him always,

  5. Cute outfit! I really like how you show a range of prices in your outfits. I’m retired and can afford some nice things, but it wasn’t always that way. I appreciate how you show expensive as well as inexpensive items.

When I was saved back in the 70’s, it was hammered into me that I must read the Bible everyday! I am glad that I was taught that-it is a wonderful habit to have. I have tried my best to do it, though I can’t say I did it perfectly:)

There is no one like Jesus, not even close. Reading the Bible is the way to know Him more.

  6. What a great outfit Kay, that you look so nice in. I have several pairs of Birkenstock’s, and I also have a few pairs of the same style shoe from Target & a Sonoma pair from Kohl’s. The less expensive pairs also have good arch support, which is a must for me. I love my yellow Universal Thread handbag so much that I ordered it in the cheetah print this morning. The next time I am in Target I need to check out the jeans. I do start every day with reading devotions in two different devotional books, along with the coordinating scripture. And I journal the scriptures that really speak to me, for future reference. I wish you a productive day!

  7. I am this look. I wear something along these lines all summer. We are in the seventies now every day and looks like 80 in April so I’m ready to free my feet in some sandals. I love the way you pick the color of your bag from a stripe in the shirt. Got me to thinking and that’s dangerous. Love BFMD as usual. I read through but I do skip over the begets.

  8. Kay, I’m going to start this practice of praising the LORD through out my day. So excited!! Praise the LORD!! Amen!!

  9. Kay,

Thank you! Lovely style choices and so fun-you can choose that same look at any price point, depending on your budget. Looks like I am going shopping this week…

BFMD message is a beautiful reminder to all of us to remember the Lord all day in all ways.

    A.

  10. Good BFMD to remind us to praise the Lord! I am reading the Bible through this year too. Enjoy your blog each day!
