Welcome to Dressed for My Day! I’m so glad you stopped in for a little summer style inspiration. This week I’ve featured summer outfits in neutrals like black and grey and black and white. I also shared some of my favorite summer pieces re-styled in yesterday’s YouTube video. But today I’ve got an oh so chic date night look for you. And I’m pulling out all the bells and whistles!

Chic Date Night Look for Summer

Recently Chico’s generously sent me a few more pieces to try in their summer collection, and I’m sharing two of those today. In fact, I’m using these beautiful accessories to top off some pieces I had purchased from Chico’s earlier in the season.

Do you recognize these sage leaf utility pants from former posts? I think it’s safe to say I’ve styled these versatile slim utility pants more than any other one item this spring & summer!

These sage leaf utility pants are about 60% off right now!!! And they’re still well stocked, too.

Not only have these slim utility pants made multiple appearances here on Dressed for My Day, but they really have gotten a workout in my personal wardrobe, too. And I have them and wear them in the other two shades, camel and new opal, too. These pants feel so comfortable, but keep their shape, look slimming and work with everything…obviously! They run true to size.

Okay. Let’s talk about the rest of this summer date night look now. While the pants are casual and versatile, I elevated the look with the sand colored v-neck linen tee and the accessories. I’m wearing a Chico’s size 1 (8-10 M) in the sage leaf utility pants and in the sand colored v-neck linen tee, so I’d say both run true to size.

The v-neck linen tee is also available in other pretty colors and is marked down significantly. It features a v in the front and back and elbow length sleeves. The website says to hand wash, but I find that this tee launders well in the machine with cold water. I lay it flat on a drying rack to dry.

Summer Date Look

In all honesty, when I received this palm-print pleated oversized square scarf from Chico’s I wondered how in the world I’d wear it for summer. The print is clearly a summer print, but I’m used to wearing large voluminous scarves in the winter, not the warmer months.

Large square scarf

But after playing with it a little, I realized it works beautifully as a wrap. This polyester scarf drapes easily and beautifully over your shoulders and really stays put nicely. But you could also give it a little knot or even belt it if you wished.

Really, this palm-print pleated oversized square scarf is what changes this simple look from basic to oh so chic. And Chico’s has several other similar scarves to consider, too. I love this tiger print scarf and this tropical print scarf.

I continued to elevate the simple look to date night chic with other Chico’s accessories. I had ordered this straw clutch earlier in the season, and I’ve loved using it for the few times we’ve actually been out. (Yeah, I’m pulling out my dressiest items just to go get an ice cream cone these days! Ha! #QUARANTINELIFE)

The straw clutch is also marked way down as I write this post, too. But I realize that could change by the time you read this post. It’s definitely worth checking out though.

The octagonal wood cuff bangle was another gift from Chico’s. If I’m going to wear statement jewelry, it’s usually from Chico’s. In fact, I just received three necklaces I ordered from them Monday and I’ve already worn all three! (Psst! I’ll include them in today’s shopping widget.)

My necklace was a Chico’s gift last year, but I’ve included a nice option in the shopping widget below. And my earrings are a sweet Target find. I finished the look off with head to toe splashes of gold. My gold sandals are a Talbots buy from a couple of seasons ago, but these are similar and marked down to a nice price.

This is definitely one of my favorite looks that I’ve created this summer. And yes, I actually wore this to get ice cream the night we snapped these photos. You gotta do what you gotta do during a pandemic!

Blessed for My Day

I love that the apostle John tells us in his gospel that Jesus revealed to us God’s glory by being “full of grace and truth.” The truth without grace is hard to receive and feels heavy. But grace without truth is indulgent and soft. Our God is good and kind, but He is also Truth. He is consistent, sure and a firm foundation.

When you read God’s Word you can know that He upholds it with His character. And His Word upholds His character. In other words, they support one another without flaw. We struggle to show grace while also speaking and upholding the truth; He does not. He is holy…other than…unlike any person we will ever meet. Can we even fathom this dichotomy? Hardly! That’s why we must bow down and worship Him.

I will bow down toward Your holy temple And give thanks to Your name for Your lovingkindness and Your truth; For You have magnified Your word according to all Your name. ~ Psalm 138:2

xoxo, Kay

  1. Okay, I finally decided to try this pant, but in the camel color. If it fits and I like it, I may order the other colors too. I have been tempted each time you show them, but now the price is definitely right!

    1. Hahaha! Yes, the price is great. And I just checked all the links and noticed that the scarf is now marked down 50% too. It was full price when I wrote the post yesterday. Chico’s is having a huge sale! Perfect timing. 😉

  2. What a pretty outfit that I think could also be worn in late summer/early fall. I really like the pants, but I am concerned that they won’t fit me in the waist without always wearing a belt. I am going to order the oatmeal tee since I like elbow length sleeves, it will go with pants and toppers I have in my closet, and since you said that it did fine in the wash on cold and gentle cycle. Have a fabulous day!

  3. Hi Kay, Do you see larger, chunky style necklaces taking over the more dainty styles we’ve seen recently?

    1. Hi Lori. No. I think the dainty necklaces still look more modern if you’re trying to look more contemporary and youthful. But there’s always a place for a statement necklace too. I like to wear both. So it’s kinda like having both bootcut jeans and slim leg jeans in your closet. 😊

  4. Love those pants. I ordered them in the green and opal last time you styled them. And they do fit TTS and go with so many things in my closet. Also cool. Thanks, Kay.

  5. I just ordered the clutch. It was on sale, plus I had 20% off and free shipping, so I’m happy! So glad you featured this today…I’ve been looking for the perfect straw clutch for awhile now! Great idea on the oversized scarf! I honestly thought it was a poncho!

  6. Hi Kay….I do love Chico’s!

And that scarf/wrap is so so cute….your right there is a lot you can do with it.

    Blessings,

  7. What a pretty look! This might be my favorite outfit this year. I’m not sure I will look as elegant as you do with the scarf but I’m willing to try it. I expect I’ll ditch it soon because I just don’t seem to be able to pull off wraps but it’s just so pretty.

    1. It really is pretty. And of course it can be worn other ways too. Thanks so much for sharing. I’m glad you like the look so much. 😊

  8. I really like this look and have to say I’ve already worn my sage utility pants a lot! If you need any inspiration for posts later in the summer, I’d love to get some ideas for how to transition them into the fall, especially when changing footwear during that season.
