Don’t Just Show Up Beautifully; Speak Up Beautifully, Too

Well, hello there! Did you wonder what happened to me? Hahaha! I finally did what I probably should have done months ago. I truly took several days off from work for Christmas. It’s hard for a pastor to take necessary time off from his pastorate without leaving town, and I’ve discovered it’s equally hard for a blogger to take time off unless she unplugs. So James and I went out of town Saturday, leaving my computer behind. And we were having such a good time, we decided to stay away an extra day. So we got home yesterday afternoon a few minutes after our daughter arrived for a visit…and just in time for me to get today’s video up.

While last week’s video on 5 Systems to Help You Achieve Your 2021 Goals was a bit of a departure from my usual fashion videos, this week’s video is simply one of my very occasional inner beauty videos. So no, we’re still not talking fashion. But I am sharing 5 tips to help you speak up beautifully in the lives of those around you.

As I state at the beginning of today’s video, I’m all for helping us to show up beautifully. But, while I do think that that in itself is a blessing, it’s really not always enough just to show up. We also need to be prepared to offer a good word. So today I’m sharing five very easy and doable ways to speak words of blessing into the lives of those around us, specifically into the lives of our children, grandchildren and spouses.

If for some reason the video player doesn’t load here, you can access the video HERE.

What I’m Wearing

Fair Isle Sweater & Earrings

Thank you so much for watching today’s video. I’d love to hear your thoughts on today’s topic either in the comments section below or in the comment feed on YouTube under my video. Don’t forget to subscribe to my channel. Let me know if you enjoy these occasional inner beauty videos. And share my channel with your friends, too.

By the way, in last week’s video, I shared about the Cultivate What Matters PowerSheet Goal Planners. While my personal coupon code for those planners is no longer valid, you can still get the 25% savings on the planners and other materials through their Sunny Days Ahead sale, just through January 4. That will be here before we know it! So I just wanted to let you know it’s not too late to take advantage of the savings and plan out your new year with this great tool. Oh, but they’re selling out fast. So don’t delay if you’re wanting to purchase one.

Starting Tomorrow…

If you’re a regular reader or subscriber, thank you so much for bearing with me while I took a few days off from posting. You know that’s not at all typical for me. But it did me a world of good. I’ll share more about our trip in an upcoming post.

And tomorrow you can expect a fashion post. Yay! I feel invigorated, recharged and ready for a bright and innovative 2021 here at Dressed for My Day. I hope you’ll join me right here tomorrow for My 20 Favorite Outfits from 2020.

Thank you for watching and reading. Now, let’s go out and be a blessing to someone today. Show up beautifully…and speak up beautifully, too!

Blessed for My Day

The story of Jacob stealing Esau’s blessing from his father Isaac has always disturbed me. I can’t really comprehend the cultural and patriarchal traditions that prevented Jacob from just offering Esau a blessing, too. But what I can take away from this story is that children desperately need their parents’ blessing.

You may have missed out on your own parent’s blessing. If you never heard your mother, specifically, say that she believes in you, that she loves you or that she delights in you, you may feel that void to this day. But rest assured, dear sister, that there is One who can offer you the blessing you crave. Read the Bible looking for God’s blessing. It’s there. You have a Father in heaven who loves you, blesses you, believes in you, has plans for you and is walking with you. Allow His blessing to minister to you so that you can freely bless your children and the others God puts in your life.

Esau said to his father, “Have you but one blessing, my father? Bless me, even me also, O my father.” And Esau lifted up his voice and wept. ~ Genesis 27:38

  1. Wow! Kay such a good video. Thank you for the practical tips. I have a lot of good intentions but sometimes need practical tips on how to implement them. Thank you for this teaching.

  2. Thank you, Kay! My grandad used to say that “ words” were like birds in a cage, once out they (words) can never be put back in the cage. I have found this and all of God’s admonitions about speaking to be absolutely true. I am a naturally chatty person so I really have to guard my tongue. My thought is: it is better to say nothing than to possibly hurt someone with a careless word.
So glad you enjoyed your time off! I look forward to hearing all about your trip.
Happy New Year to you and your family,
    Suzanne

  3. You will love your visit to The Ark! Ironically, it is in my back door ♥ Enjoy your visit to Kentucky and I hope you are there long enough to see The Ark lite up for Christmas.

  4. Yea! I’m so happy that y’all are getting to enjoy the The Ark Encounter! I’ve been thinking that you would probably like the Creation Museum in Petersburg, also! If you go to Petersburg, Lawrenceburg looked pretty decorated for Christmas @night! They had a neat pizza restaurant near the Double Tree hotel in Lawrenceburg, too. I hope y’all have wonderful adventures together!

  5. Kay, this post was so powerful – thank you for sharing with us how to share blessings! Also, I am delighted you took some well deserved days off:)

  6. Thank you Kay for always being a blessing to your subscribers! We see Christ in YOU🥰. Today’s video was such a timely and encouraging reminder of how powerful our words are. I watched it with my husband so we can both think of ways to bless our 2 teenage sons. Thank you so much!

  7. Thank you for this video and the reminder to be a blessing to others. To be careful with our words. To be thoughtful of those around us.

  8. Kay, I don’t think you even realize what s blessing you have been to so many! Being beautiful on the inside is the most important characteristic we can have, in my opinion. Thanks for reminding me to guard my words and use them to bless others! Have a blessed day!

PS I think you will love your new Fitbit. I think the 250 step per hour was the motivation that got me through 2020. I had many days of 14 hrs. of walking at least 250 steps! Happy stepping!!

  9. Thank you for these wise words about using your words for blessing. As a Grandma, I need to use these tips with my “Grands” as well as their parents ! Happy New Year! I look forward to what you have planned for us in 2021!
