Happy Friday! As the week has progressed it has definitely begun to feel more and more like fall here in Cincinnati. And at this point I think autumn is here to stay. We even have some trees that have turned beautiful shades of yellow, crimson, orange and amber. Speaking of autumnal hues, today let’s turn our attention to the fall 2020 color trends. We have some beautiful colors to work with this year, ladies!
Remember, the colors of your wardrobe are really a very personal choice. You should wear the colors you enjoy. I like to wear colors that I frequently receive compliments in, but I also choose to wear colors that reflect how I’m feeling on any given day. And I especially enjoy wearing colors that resonate with the season around me. So you do you!
But if you’d like to participate in any of the current color trends, I want to share those with you. And I encourage you to tweak them to fit your personal style aesthetic and personality.
Psst! You might want to refer back to this post, How to Choose the Colors of Your Wardrobe for more tips on incorporating the trending colors into your personal style.
Classic Blue
Classic blue is actually the Pantone color of the year. The shade of blue they’re referring to is what I would call a denim blue. But in celebration of that trending color we’re seeing numerous beautiful shades of blue in fashion this fall. And the good news is that most every woman – every skin color, skin tone, eye color and hair color – looks beautiful in blue.
So choose the shade of blue that appeals to you and that you feel your best in. The sky’s the limit. Yep, even sky blue!
Psst! Camel, as in the pants above, is also trending. If you don’t want to wear it close to your face, I suggest wearing this beautiful, golden neutral in pants, footwear or other accessories, such as your handbag or belt.
How to Wear It: Most all of us can wear blue close to our face. And don’t we all love blue? So wear this basic but beautiful color any way you choose. I’m looking forward to wearing this beautiful blue pullover wool blend sweater. I purchased it in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, and guess what??? It’s marked down 40% again! It’s oh so soft and features a flattering v-neckline and a lovely speckled blue yarn.
To make your blue choices look more autumnal, pair them with other colors of the season. For instance, above I wore this pretty blue novelty t-shirt with my camel colored utility pants. In the spring I can wear this same t-shirt with white jeans for a more springy look. But paired with these pants they look right for the current season.
I’m supplying you with a shopping widget filled with a variety of colorful choices for each of the trending colors. These and the other links in this post are affiliate links. If you shop through them I potentially earn a commission, but at no cost to you. Thanks so much for shopping through my links! If the photos in the widgets do not portray a blue item, click through to see the blue option. They do all come in blue.
Shades of Green
Originally Pantone slated a dark bluish green and an olive green as trending colors for fall and winter. But we’re seeing a full spectrum of greens showing up in popular fashions. At this point, word on the street is that any green will look current and fresh. Perhaps we’re gravitating to these colors of nature because of current circumstances in our world.
I have green eyes, so I love wearing green close to my face. So I’ve made it one of my signature colors. Remember, I suggest selecting 3-6 signature colors and filling your wardrobe with those rather than including the entire rainbow in your closet. Then you can choose 3-4 neutrals to wear with those colors.
How to Wear It: If green is one of your signature colors I definitely suggest looking for a pretty green sweater, either a pullover or cardigan. But you’ll also find pretty accessories in green right now.
Psst! I’ll be sharing this beautiful olive green fly away cardigan in an upcoming post. It is so much more beautiful in person than in the catalog photo. Lovely with a chambray shirt and jeans!
Rich Brown
Another color that we’re seeing everywhere this fall is rich brown. I say “rich” because this brown almost seems to have a creaminess to it. It’s not flat, but deep and earthy and sometimes chocolatey. Yum!
I’m seeing rich browns in sweaters, coats, shoes, handbags and more. I especially love this deep earthy color in thick, yummy sweaters and coats. And this is one of those colors that you can invest in because it will never look dated. Of all the fall 2020 color trends, perhaps this one is the best to invest in.
How to Wear It: I love this rich hue paired with black, but it’s also beautiful with denim blue. Of course if you purchase chocolate colored pants or skirt, you could top them with most any beautiful color. The lovely thing about this rich brown is that it can be treated as a neutral or a color. Look for it highlighted in plaids and prints, too. Finally, you can also pick up this lovely color in accessories, especially tortoiseshell jewelry and some animal prints.
Psst! I’m seeing this color called tortoiseshell, chocolate, dark rum, dark walnut, pecan, dark brandy and dark sepia. See why I say it’s rich??
Rosy Pink
Pinks are always with us, and they’ve been hot for the past few years. But this year the shade has taken on a rosy hue. And we’re frequently seeing it in a heathered iteration. We’re seeing a soft rosy pink in sweaters, dresses, t-shirts and blouses. We’re also watching this lovely feminine color show up mingled into plaids and prints.
How to Wear It: I think this rosy color looks pretty on most everyone. It’s not the stark pink that women with cooler undertones need nor is it the coral pink that women with warmer undertones gravitate to. Instead, it’s more of a neutral undertoned pink that we can all enjoy. I think it shows up beautifully unique on women with white, brown and black skin, too. Us older gals will look lovely with a heathered rosy pink because as we age our own coloring begins to fade a little. So the heathered colors always look soft and glorious on us.
Psst! See two more ways I styled this soft rosy cashmere sweater in this previous post.
Psst! My soft rosy cashmere sweater is 30% off, but you can get it for 40% off the original price with code SMILE40.
I also think this color is a beautiful one to wear monochromatically. Wear it head to toe by selecting a pair of winter rose cords like these and then topping it with the sweater above and this blazer in darling pink. Or wear it just a little monochromatic like I did in the outfit above, wearing blue jeans or other pants as your base.
Variety of Berries
Perhaps one of my favorite fall 2020 color trends that we’re seeing is variations on berry red. And while this may sound like a shade that can only be worn by women with cool or neutral skin undertones, you can in fact find varieties of berry red that work beautifully for warmer skin undertones as well.
Psst! To learn more about how to determine your skin undertones, check out this previous post, What to Wear So Your Eyes Pop.
How to Wear It: I think most of us will choose to wear this color in sweaters and tops. But you can certainly find beautiful jeans, cords and other pants in this beautiful autumnal hue, too. Of course, if this is not one of your signature colors, but you want to wear it, you could pick up a beautiful berry colored handbag to wear as a pop of color against an all black, grey or brown outfit. Don’t forget about scarves, jewelry and shoes, as well as lipstick and nail polish (check out OPI in Aurora Berry).
Psst! I recently purchased this Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Rum Raisin and am enjoying it. But in the berry family, you might want to consider Berry Rich, Wine with Everything, Cherries in the Snow or even Bombshell Red.
I’m definitely enjoying my dark berry colored utility jacket. I’m also seeing similar colored puffer vests, coats and rain jackets. Call it burgundy, wine, shiraz or berry red, these deep shades of purplish red are everywhere. Oh, and check out this red pomegranate cardigan I wasn’t able to link in the shopping widget below. Stunning color!
Psst! My berry red drape collar knit blazer above has been restocked and marked down 40% again. It’s available in other pretty colors, too.
Aren’t you just loving these fall 2020 color trends?
Camel
Finally, amidst the fall 2020 color trends, camel is surging in popularity as a neutral. While we’re still seeing plenty of beautiful greys, navy, black and white, camel is definitely the top neutral this year. In fact, it’s so popular that camel coats, blazers and jackets get snapped up before you can put them in your cart. But don’t forget about simply accessorizing with a luscious camel scarf or hat.
I did manage to buy the camel coat above in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, but it quickly sold out. I suppose Nordstrom got a few returns because it’s available again, but in very few sizes and at full price. But here’s a gorgeous shorter camel coat in a few additional sizes.
Psst! I recently purchased this pullover sweater in toasted coconut and love it!
I probably wore the camel colored cashmere turtleneck above more than any other sweater I own last year. It just goes with everything! I haven’t seen many turtlenecks yet, but here’s a similar color in a crewneck at J.Crew.
How to Wear It: Obviously, you can wear camel so many ways. Blazers and coats are obvious favorites. But I love wearing camel head to toe as I did above. So chic, and surprisingly slimming. Look for a camel that works best for your skin tone. You will find so many different shades of camel, some cooler and others warmer. Choose one that works with your undertones. And remember, you can also add touches of camel by wearing leopard print that is predominantly camel.
What color will you be shining in this fall and winter? Do you have a favorite of the fall 2020 color trends that I’ve featured here today? New October Challenge
I failed to get the October Challenge video loaded to YouTube this time. Sorry about that! But I filmed a quick, rough video with my phone and posted it on my Dressed for My Day Facebook page and in the private Facebook Group. Be sure to check it out if you want to participate.
Here’s the challenge in a nutshell:
October Challenge: Let’s Celebrate Fall, Y’all!
- Fashion: Celebrate with Colors – think the colors of fall and the fall 2020 color trends I’ve shared here
- Beauty: Celebrate with Self-Care – think mammogram, doctor’s appointments, screenings, vaccines, but also manicures, spa days (probably at home), bubble baths, facials, etc.
- Fitness: Celebrate Creation – enjoy moving your body (run, walk, lift weights, stretch, dance!) and getting out in God’s creation to celebrate the beauty of autumn (hike, picnic, garden, toast marshmallows, camp).
- Inner Beauty: Celebrate Community – do whatever you can to increase your time in community, whether that’s live and in person or virtually. Also work toward increasing the quality of your community, meaning your relationships with others.
I hope you’ll join the fun!

Blessed for My Day
In the beginning God created the world in six days and then He rested on the 7th day. He gave us an example of rest. I believe He showed us, not only how to rest after working hard, but also how to celebrate and enjoy the fruits of our labor.
But since that seventh day we have no record of God taking a day off. Aren’t you glad? While we are directed to take a Sabbath, a day of rest, God does not rest, nor does He slumber. He is constantly at work. Even when you cannot see or hear or feel Him working in the situations of your life, trust that He is indeed working all things together for your best benefit and for His glory.
And this was why the Jews were persecuting Jesus, because he was doing these things on the Sabbath. But Jesus answered them, “My Father is working until now, and I am working.” ~ John 5:16-17
I am loving each one of these colors! Green has always been one of my go-to colors as well and I am loving the dark berry too! You look fabulous in each one of these looks!
Pretty colors! I love to wear blue. The Target link for the blue sweater didn’t work for me though
Hmm. I’m sorry for the inconvenience. I’ll check on it, but if it’s in the shopping widget the problem is probably on their side. Let me see what I can do. Thanks for letting me know.
Hmm. They all worked for me , Sylvia. Maybe try again?
I like the majority of the colors. I wear more corals and blues since they are two of my signature colors. The only item that I need to add to my closet is a pair of off-black jeans. For the October challenge, starting the 17th, I will be spending a lot more time out in nature, deer hunting. Part of the joy of being in the woods is really seeing nature, the quiet, and not being distracted while talking to God.
Phenomenal Autumn color choices Kay!!! I also like to wear the color Rust and Mustard/Gold too. The weather has been absolutely gorgeous here in NC. We live about two hours or less from the mountains and go quite frequently on the weekends and the leaves are starting to change there. Autumn is my favorite season 🍁🍂. Thank you for the BFMD reminder.
