Fresh Casual Look with Camo Pants

Okay, we’ve been wearing our fall and winter duds for a while now. And hopefully we’ve been enjoying them, right? But about this time in the season I start needing a closet refresh. I don’t necessarily want to buy a lot of new fall or winter clothes, but I’m open to purchasing one or two new items that could breathe some fresh air into my go-to outfits. And if those one or two pieces can help me transition into spring, all the better. So today I’m sharing a fresh, casual look with camo pants with the hopes of inspiring you as you keep wearing winter but you start thinking spring.

I’ve gotten so much wear out of these straight cargo camo pants. With a perfect cotton/lyocell/elastane blend they have nice stretch in them, so they bend and move with you easily. I’m wearing the 30 talls. For my 5’8″ frame, the regular length was just too short. And while I’m sure it’s perfectly fine to wear them shorter, the longer length has allowed me to wear them with my booties, too.

Camo, like leopard print, can be treated like a solid. So you can definitely pair it with a graphic tee like this. My sweet southern shirt was gifted to me by my friend Candy this past spring. We had met up in Madison, Georgia, for the day and I had oohed and aahed over this baseball tee when we saw it in a gift shop there. When I returned home to Arizona, I found it in my mail box. That Candy!

I’ve searched the Internet high and low in search of this shirt, but alas it’s not to be found. But I’ve provided some other sweet options from Etsy shops in the shopping widget below. I especially like this one and this one.

If you live in a warmish climate like I do, you can probably get by with a jean jacket many days. It’s the perfect topper for this camo and graphic tee duo. The jacket adds another texture and color to a casual outfit that absolutely does not need to match up perfectly. Actually that’s the charm of this outfit. Everything that’s going on here makes it look very casual, fun and youthful.

I’ve really enjoyed my fig colored Teva sneakers, but I found these beige reptile embossed slip on sneakers from Naturalizer on sale and decided to snag them, too. They work perfectly with camo pants, but I like the idea of pairing them with white or pastel colored jeans this spring, as well.

I felt like I fit in beautifully when I wore this outfit to walk around the University of Arizona campus as students were returning from their winter break. But while this outfit feels comfortable, trendy and casual, I don’t think it makes me look like I’m trying too hard to look young either (as I mentioned in this post about dressing your age).

Blessed for My Day

A few years ago I found myself struggling with situational anxiety. I had a frustrating situation going on, and I couldn’t stop thinking about it. I felt like I was being held captive by my anxious, turbulent thoughts. Talk about overthinking! I couldn’t seem to stop.

After becoming frustrated with my inability to get a hold of my thinking, I devised a plan. Any time my thoughts started running away from me and I found myself obsessing over this situation, I’d tell myself, “Kay, you cannot think about that now. You can think about that today at 4 o’clock for 30 minutes.” Yep, that’s what I’d tell myself. And it worked. Knowing that I had a set time to think on my situation I was able to move on to other things. Then at 4 o’clock each day I’d sit on my back porch and give myself permission to think about my dilemma for half an hour. But an interesting thing happened. Instead of thinking about it, I found myself talking to God about it. And I didn’t need 30 minutes either. After about ten minutes I’d be done talking to the Lord about it, I’d get bored and I’d declare myself through worrying and fretting.

If you’re anxious about something today that has captured your thought life, I encourage you to take it to the Lord and leave it there. He alone can do anything about it.

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. ~ Philippians 4:6-7

xoxo, Kay

  1. What a youthful (but still age appropriate) look! You can pull off the camo, but I don’t wear those. However, I do have some graphic tees and a jean jacket that I wear with plain cargo pants. Looking forward to some warmer weather in Ohio so I can wear them. The T-shirts in your link are so cute! And, I loved your Blessed for My Day thought – I needed that one today. So glad I have found your blog! 🙂

  2. I love that you have camo jeans too. I have to admit, it’s not something I ever thought I’d be wearing 5 years ago before blogging, but I love my pair. They seem to keep my young at heart and they go with everything!! They are also great for print mixing!!
    Have a great weekend, Kay!!

  3. Kay, you well the camo combo beautifully. I really needed your BFMD. That is an excellent idea to set a time to concentrate on your dilemma/situation and turn it over to God. Enjoy your weekend. ~Lisa~
