Hi gals! Welcome to Dressed for My Day where my goal, with each and every post, is to inspire and help women like you and me to dress beautifully and appropriately for our unique days so we can engage authentically and gracefully with those around us and influence them well. Today let’s have a little fun with the blouse I used in yesterday’s career look. I’m featuring that same dark floral blouse in a fun, casual winter outfit.

Because I’m all about building a functional wardrobe that really works for you, I absolutely love pieces that do double duty. And this dark floral blouse moves effortlessly between your working girl wardrobe and your more casual clothes. It pairs beautifully with dress slacks or jeans. And on the Boden website they show this semi-fitted blouse with sweet cropped chinos.

Today I’m pulling out the bright cherry print of this pretty blouse by adding my red corduroy blazer. I think I’ve worn this blazer several times a week since I bought it. It’s thick and lush. By the way, I’m wearing a size 6, so size down.

Dark Floral Print blouse

Today’s photos capture the feminine silhouette of this pretty blouse a little better than yesterday’s. (The wind was blowing horribly, but James wisely put me behind a bank of trees for this set of pictures.) I love the soft bowed bodice line in this 100% viscose shirt. I’m wearing a size 10 for a looser fit, but my usual 8 worked fine if you prefer a closer fit. Just keep in mind that this fabric doesn’t have much give.

Dark Floral Blouse

I love how this shirt works with my favorite skinny jeans (similar) just as well as it works with my black slacks (see yesterday’s post).

The teal and gold owl brooch brings out the blue in the blouse and keeps this outfit fun and interesting. (I think I could have pinned it on a little straighter!) Adding touches of whimsy like these keep your look youthful, but I try to limit myself to one, maybe two. Otherwise, the outfit begins to look a little clownish.

Whimsical Owl Brooch

I wore my black suede booties to tie in to the black in the shirt. These are still available and they’re quite comfortable. Plus, they’re marked down 40%.

I really like how this outfit pulled together. The colors are dark, but current and interesting.

Corduroy Blazer

The shirt is 40% off, the blazer is 40% off the reduced price with code FLASH, the owl brooch is 40% off the reduced price with code FRIENDS40 and the booties are 40% off as well. That’s a win!

But, just as importantly, you can create a look like this from items in your closet. Simply use a colorful blazer or cardigan to coordinate with a dark floral tee or blouse and set all that color in the context of your favorite jeans and dark accessories. Voila!

Blessed for My Day

I’m so grateful that our Creator loves us enough to come for us. Even though we have all gone astray, He comes looking for us. He doesn’t write us off or just shake His holy head in disgust and roll His eyes. He seeks us.

God sent His Son to bring us back to Him. While we may have days when we don’t feel like we amount to much, God has declared that we are worthy of redemption. We are of great value to Him.

Let’s remember that amazing fact today. When we begin to feel beaten down by our own goofy mistakes or inabilities, let’s press in to the fact that we are treasured by the One who created us. We celebrate Christmas because He sent for us.

But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. ~ Galatians 4:4-5

  1. Kay, you are amazing! While I love your style and occasionally shop your recommendations, I am so thankful for your Blessed for my Day entries. They always seem to be relevant to me! They are a blessing in my days. And may I also say, I’m so impressed with your husband and how he supports you in this venture. A lot of husbands are so wrapped up in their own careers that they don’t really take the time to see what their wives are doing. You are blessed. Merry Christmas

    1. Oh, I’m so glad those words speak to you. They’re always simple. I really do think of you gals as I write them, though. I try to think about how I need to be encouraged and offer that to you. We all need someone to speak kindly to us. And yes, James really does support me. More than you gals know, in fact. He asks me about the blog almost daily – how numbers are, what comments are looking like, what emails I’ve received, etc. And I definitely thank him every time he shoots or sends me photos. It’s added work for him and he already works really hard. But enjoys doing it with me I think. It’s definitely a blessing!

  2. This is a great look that you can wear almost anywhere. I live slightly rural so sometimes I sub a cardigan for the blazer. I have a beautiful lambs wool red cardigan and although I don’t own a blouse with flowers, I have a top that has a plaid design and I’m inspired by you to put those pieces together. I need to shop mt closet more often. : ) Thanks for your blog. You always look beautiful.

  3. I agree with Beverly. It feels like every Bless My Day was written for. me and while I love your style, it’s your message that I look forward to. God is working with me and sent me to your blog. Blessed. Merry Christmas.
