Happy Monday, everyone! First off, thanks to all of you for your warm wishes and sweet encouragement on Saturday’s Big Announcement. You are all such an amazing blessing to me. If I didn’t respond personally to your comment, it was purely an oversight. I had a hard time keeping up!

Today I’m sharing half a dozen (or more!) ways to wear one of the season’s hottest trends: gingham. Y’all. I love me some gingham. It’s so cheerful and classic, youthful and feminine. Let’s explore all the ways you can incorporate this sweet trend into your wardrobe this summer. And some of these pieces will transition easily into fall as well.

Half a Dozen Ways to Wear Gingham this Summer

#1 – Sport a Gingham Top

I’ve seen so many darling gingham tops available this summer. From halter tops to button ups to wrap tops, you’ll find cheerful gingham tops of every color.

Looking Chic with Baby Blue Gingham
white pants (I’m wearing the curvy fit) // gingham top (now JUST $29 – final sale) // ankle strap sandals // wicker & leather shoulder bag (now almost HALF PRICE!) // white beaded sphere earrings // gold necklace (also available in silver) // sunglasses

The precious baby blue gingham shirt above, which I showed originally in this post, is not 75% off. Use my referral portal to order and save $20 off your first order with Evy’s Tree. You’ll find the shirt listed under “Amy Shirt in Provincial Blue Gingham.” This lightweight 100% cotton shirt makes a great topper over a tank, too. It’s super for cool summer evenings or vacations to cooler climates. Otherwise, you can roll the sleeves up and style it like I did for the office or church.

I’ve rounded up some other great gingham tops for you to consider, too. I especially like this wrap top and this tie hem shirt.

Note: These suggestions run the full range of prices and are available at a variety of retailers. Also, some photos don’t show the gingham option, so you’ll need to click through to really see the offerings. Plus there are often additional color options available. (This info applies to all of the shopping widgets in this post.)

#2 – Get You Some Gingham Pants!

I shared these black gingham pants last year, but I’m still enjoying them.

You can see this full post here.

While mixing patterns is definitely on trend, you’ll always be safe pairing your gingham pants with a pretty solid pullover top or sweater. But don’t be afraid to wear them with a top in the same color of stripes, too.

Here are the gingham pants I rounded up for you from your favorite retailers.

#3 – Try a Gingham Jumpsuit

Jumpsuits are all over the place now. And I think more and more women are realizing that the comfort they provide trumps the tad bit of inconvenience they may cause when getting dressed and undressed. I loved styling this one for a previous post.

Halter Neck Gingham Jumpsuir
halter neck gingham jumpsuit in navy/ivory (runs TTS or a tad small – I’m wearing an 8) // magenta beaded sphere earrings (only in white/another option) // star & moon earrings // gold bangle // enamel bangle in magenta // pink sandals (similar) // wicker and leather shoulder bag // sunglasses

This one is almost sold out, but it’s also 40% off now. So if you’re interested in a comfortable, lightweight jumpsuit that you can wear to brunch, showers, shopping or outdoor concerts all summer long, check it out.

But here are some more lovely gingham jumpsuits I found for you to consider:

#4 – Wear Gingham Shorts

If you want to wear gingham, but you don’t want it head to toe, I suggest a pair of gingham shorts. I’m absolutely loving mine that I styled previously in this post.

black and white gingham shorts
black & white gingham shorts (wearing 8, TTS) // magenta sleeveless shirt (wearing 8, TTS) // white denim jacket (wearing small, TTS) // black belt (similar) // gold sandals (TTS) // wicker & leather shoulder bag // gold bangle (similar) // palm necklace // beaded sphere earrings (only available in white) // sunglasses

I’ve actually already taken photos for a post with these gingham shorts and this black and white striped tee. I think it’s a great look! But you’ll never go wrong pairing your gingham shorts with a solid top in a complimentary color.

You’ll find plenty of gingham shorts in all lengths and fabrics. Here are the ones I’ve rounded up for you. I tried these on recently and they fit true to size and are oh so darling.

#5 – Wear a Feminine Gingham Dress or Skirt

I love little girls in gingham dresses. But they’re not just for little girls. Today we can find beautiful gingham dresses and skirts that look feminine and fresh, but still chic and sophisticated. I styled this black and white one last summer, but this one is oh so similar. Unfortunately it’s only available in a couple of petite sizes.

See the full post here.

But don’t worry, I’ve found plenty of other gingham dresses and skirts for you to shop. And they’re available at every price point. Oh, and you’ll find gingham dresses that are appropriate for work as well as more casual frocks.

#6 – Top Off with a Gingham Jacket or Cardigan

The beauty of a gingham jacket or cardigan is that you can use it to top off so many great outfits this summer. You could potentially get more wear out of it than any of the pieces above.

Pink Gingham Blazer
See more of this look here.

Not only did I share this fantastic pink gingham blazer in this post, but I also shared about a dozen tips for how to style it or any of the other gingham toppers below.

Bonus – Wear Gingham Accessories

If you’re not ready to wear a piece of gingham clothing, you can still participate in the trend by adding some gingham accessories to your wardrobe. In fact, this may be the funnest way to wear this cheerful fabric.

Spring Completer Pieces - Utility Jackets
girlfriend chinos in chambray // yellow gingham popover // draw cord jacket // pebble leather & woven crossbody bag (more than 50% off) // navy enamel bangle // Ryan Leather gingham loafers

I’ve collected a wide variety of gingham accessories for you to consider. I found everything from shoes to handbags, from headbands to scarves…and more! These are such a fun way to wear gingham.

Are you wearing gingham this summer? What’s your favorite way to sport this fresh and fun trend?

Blessed for My Day

The first picture that comes to mind when I mention idols is probably some sort of statue or structure worshiped by other religions. But actually all of us are guilty of building and worshiping idols at times in our lives. In fact, an idol doesn’t have to be a physical thing at all. We can idolize and worship a goal, a wound, a devastation experienced in the past, an emotion such as pleasure or a relationship.

How do I know if I’m caught up in idol worship? I can evaluate how I spend my time, my money and my thought life. What is calling the shots in my life? What is absorbing most of my energy or time? And what will I protect at all cost? When I discover that I have an idol I’ve found that breaking from of its grip usually requires transparency with a trusted friend or adviser and a willingness to be accountable to them. If you’ve built an idol, today is the day to walk away from it.

The idols of the nations are silver and gold,
    the work of human hands.
They have mouths, but do not speak;
    they have eyes, but do not see;
they have ears, but do not hear,
nor is there any breath in their mouths.
Those who make them become like them,
so do all who trust in them. ~ Psalm 135:15-18

  1. Several years ago I picked up at Kmart three pairs of simple but nice cotton gingham crop pants on sale. I have paired them with several T-shirt tops in a variety of colors. My favorite pairings with them, though are the Karen Scott tees ( a staple item in my wardrobe) at Macy’s that have small white or black polka dots. My favorite color combinations are red gingham crops with a blue (white dots) tee, the blue gingham with a red ( white dots ) tee and the black gingham with a teal or green with white dots. But the combinations are limited only by the colors I find each year. I love the gingham paired with the small dots. The pants have held up well over the years as I only wear them to church and occasionally work. The tees I usually can replace each summer.
I recently started reading your blog and thoroughly enjoy it.

    1. Yes, those combinations sound great! Like animal print, gingham can be treated like a solid. So it actually works really well with prints. And I’ve got that coming up in another post! Thanks for sharing. I’m glad you’re enjoying the blog. ?

  2. Oh Kay, I have three children and I cannot imagine not seeing them for that long. You have a gorgeous family. I am happy for you to get to be closer to your son even if it is for a short time. I like all your gingham combinations…..very classy. I have several gingham pieces myself. I do not have pink though so I may have to add that color to my gingham collection. ~Lisa~

    1. Thanks Lisa. Daniel couldn’t believe we’d gone that long without seeing each other either. In fact James and Abigail has both seen and spent time with Daniel TWICE each since I had. Just the way things happened I guess.

Yes, I especially like those pink gingham shorts at Talbots. ?

  3. I love gingham, it says summer to me. My favorites are the gingham pants and shorts! Good luck with your move east. It will be wonderful to be so near your son and future daughter-in-law!

  4. So, bought the navy gingham perfect crops at Talbots earlier this summer but only think of solid white or navy tops to wear them with. Thanks for expanding my options.

  5. Kay, It will be at least one week until I resume really reading and commenting on your blog, as I continue to recover from the sinus surgery. It hurts to wear my glasses and I can’t read to well without them. Great picture of you and your son!
