Hello and welcome to Dressed for My Day! I thought I’d pause from sharing fashions and give you a peek into my current makeup collection. These are the products I’m using frequently right now and plan to use at least for the next couple of months. Truth be told, I experiment a lot with cosmetics. It’s kinda my job! So I’m always on the lookout for new products with lots of promise, especially for the, ahem, more mature face. But here’s what’s in my makeup drawer for fall.

Tarte Concealer & Foundation

What's in My Makeup Bag for Fall

Finding the right under eye concealer can be quite tricky for the mature woman. We want something creamy that stays put, doesn’t dry out with wear, treats that sensitive skin kindly and does that job. As of right now, the Tarte Shape Tape Ultra Creamy Concealer fits the bill for me. True to its name it is creamy and it doesn’t dry out and flake or crease with wear. It has a nice thickness and is easy to apply.

Pro Tip: While I’m wearing a few different products in this video, you might want to check out my video, Simple Everyday Makeup, to see how I apply this concealer and a few of the other products I’m sharing today.

I use the Shape Tape Ultra Creamy Concealer in 16N Fair-Light Neutral, but you can use the helps at the website to easily determine the best shade for you.

I also have the Shape Tape Glow Wand in my makeup drawer. Granted, I don’t wear it every day. But when I want to add a little more light and shimmer to my face, this product does the trick. You apply it just at the top of your cheeks or anywhere you want to add a little youthful glow. I use my BeautyBlender to blend it in a little. When I use it, I apply the Shape Tape Glow Wand after applying my foundation.

Tarte

And that leads to the next Tarte product I’m really loving. I started using the Tarte Babassu Foundcealer Multi-Tasking foundation a month or so ago I think, and I’m in love. It also goes on creamy and smoothly. I’ve found that it sits on my skin very nicely. Yes, eventually I start seeing it settling into the creases in my face, but not usually until I’ve been wearing it for a long day. I love the way this foundation goes on, the coverage it gives and the help they give you with finding the right shade.

Pro Tip: I definitely suggest using a BeautyBlender to make sure your foundation is well blended. I dampen it thoroughly, wring it out completely, then blot it well with a towel before using. Then I simply “bounce” the BeautyBlender over my entire face (probably for close to a minute!). There’s no need to rub with the BeautyBlender. Bouncing does the trick beautifully!

L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche La Palette Eye Shadow

I first shared the L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche La Palette Eye Shadow in this post in beauty post last February. In that post I shared a full compliment of L’Oreal products in fact. I still recommend those products, but I’ve moved on to trying other things, too. In fact, this Colour Riche La Palette made its way to the back of my cosmetics drawer over time.

But recently I’ve pulled the Colour Riche La Palette back to the front of the drawer and started using it again. I’d forgotten how nicely pigmented these colors are, how easy the shadow goes on and how well it stays with wear. I’m able to create very natural looks with this palette, and that’s a priority for me.

I do still use my Tarte Tartelette Clay Matte Eyeshadow Palette, too. In fact, I’d say I pretty much alternate between these two palettes every other day. The L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche La Palette has a bit more sparkle, but I’m learning to work with that. The Tartelette Clay Matte Eyeshadow Palette is all matte shades and I love the way it applies, too.

But in the photos in this post I’m wearing shades from the L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche La Palette.

September Favorites eyeshadow pallette

Pro Tip: I announced in some video last year that I’ve stopped using eye liner. I still don’t use an eye liner pencil or liquie. But I do sometimes use one of the darker shadows in my eyeshadow palettes to add a little intensity right along the upper lash lines of my eyes, usually just on the outer half. One of the biggest reasons I stopped using eye liner was simple operator error. Ha! I just don’t have the skill in my hands any longer for that kind of precision. Plus, I can’t see very well while I’m applying my eye makeup. So I think using the shadow with a very fine brush works better for me.

Lancome Mascaras

I’ve been using the Lancome mascara products for years, and I haven’t stopped yet. Yes, I do have wands of other mascara in my drawer. I’m constantly trying others out. And I can even recommend a few others, including the Tarte lights, camera, lashes™ 4-in-1 mascara. It goes on well and definitely does a good job.

But for my fine, thin, short, sparse lashes, nothing creates a more natural but fortified lash line like the combination of the Lancome Cils Booster Mascara Primer and the Lancome Definicil Defining & Lengthening Mascara.

Mascara and Primer
Lancome Definicil Defining & Lengthening Mascara // Lancome Cils Booster Mascara Primer

I’m a big believer in the benefits of the Lancome Cils Booster Mascara Primer. It conditions my lashes and helps keep them healthy (I need all the help I can get!). But it also makes the mascara go on smoother and fuller.

The Lancome Definicil Defining & Lengthening Mascara is my preference because it doesn’t clump or create “spidery” lashes. I feel like it looks very natural, but it still fortifies my lashes significantly.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Makeup

I’ve also become a big fan of the Anastasia brow makeup in recent months. I’ve been shaping and fortifying my brows for years (’cause I have none to speak of!), but I’d been using a pencil and then later a shadow. I really like the control the Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade gives me. I apply it with an angled brush like this one.

Brow Makeup
Anastasia Beverly Hills Clear Brow Gel

After shaping and filling in my brows with the Dipbrow Pomade, I use a few swipes of the Anastasia Beverly Hills Clear Brow Gel to “fluff” them a bit for a more natural look. I think this gel also helps the pomade stay on longer with wear.

Estee Lauder Lip & Cheek Color

And if you’ve been around Dressed for My Day much at all this past month or so you know I’ve fallen in love with Estee Lauder’s Pure Color Envy Lipstick in Rebellious Rose.

Estee Lauder Lip and Cheek Color
Estee Lauder’s Pure Color Envy Lipstick in Rebellious Rose (or at Macy’s) // Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Blush in Rebellious Rose (limited editions)

Estee Lauder’s Rebellious Rose is one of their most popular shades because it is a mysterious neutral, looking beautiful on women with warm, neutral or cool undertones. It’s a deep rosy hue that is perfect for fall and winter, but also suitable for year round use.

When I discovered they also had a Blush in Rebellious Rose I knew I needed that, too. Sure enough, it’s a great blush. It looks very natural and rosy. And I imagine it also looks good on all skin tones.

Lipsticks
Estee Lauder’s Pure Color Envy Lipstick in Rebellious Rose (or at Macy’s) // Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Kissable Lip Shine in Rebellious Rose (or at Nordstrom)

And most recently I discovered that Estee Lauder also has the Rebellious Rose shade available in their Pure Color Envy Kissable Lip Shine. So I’ve added that to my makeup drawer, too. My only complaint about this lip gloss is that the applicator is a brush. I’d much prefer the sponge tip. But the product itself is great. It goes on beautifully. A little is all I need to add a little shine to my lips.

Pro Tip: If you want to use a lipliner to help create a smoother line around your lips, I suggest the Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Lip Pencil in either Rose or Tawny. You want a lip liner that is about the same color as your natural lips, definitely not darker or brighter than the lipstick you are applying.

So that’s what’s in my makeup drawer for fall. I’m on the road today, returning home from a family wedding. But I’ll try to watch the comments here as we travel. So if you have any questions, please let me know. Thanks so much for stopping in today.

By the way, the shopping widget below contains all the products I shared today. And some are available at multiple stores.

Blessed for My Day

I honestly don’t enjoy taking the time to apply makeup. But I’m always glad when I’ve done it. I actually feel more like myself with a little makeup on than I do when my face is bare. I’m more prone to engage with other people when I have a little makeup on, too. I just feel like I’m putting my best self forward that way.

In the same way, I don’t always want to pause in the mornings for my Bible reading and prayer time. I generally love that quiet time with the Lord, but there are days when I am prone to rush through it. However, I’ve found that I’m more my true self and better able to engage with the world around me when I’ve paused to spend time in God’s presence in the morning.

The point is, beauty takes time. It must be nurtured and polished. So today let’s take a little time to look our best. Put on some lipstick, comb our hair, thicken our eyelashes and define our brows. But let’s also take time to read from the Bible and pray. That’s where real beauty begins.

Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. ~ Proverbs 31:30

  1. Fabulous post! Kudos to you! 💪👌💫✨✨
You are so cute when you explain everything to us, so kindly! So many great tips you leave us with…. Thank you!

Hope you had lotsa fun at the wedding! 💃🏼🕺🌟

  2. Safe travels back to OH today! Kay, I am very interested in the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow makeup because like you, I have no eyebrows because they fell out when I had Cushing’s Disease and they really didn’t grow back. I don’t have the most steady hands and I struggle with making my eyebrows look similar in thickness, etc. Do you find those products to be easy to apply? If you were to just give yourself eyebrows and not apply the rest of your makeup, would your eyebrows look natural? Thank you!

    1. Hahaha! That’s hard to say. Like any other product I think it does take practice and getting used to. But I feel like I have more control with a brush than with a pencil. But I bet their pencils are good too if you’d prefer to give those a try. The brand specializes in brow products.

    2. I love the ABH powder form as well for a natural look. The small angled brush you suggested is essential for both products if you don’t want to wind up with thick caterpillar eyebrow 😃

    3. Ginger, I have zero brows myself! I discovered the Anastasia Beverly Hills brow products at Ulta last summer. I have two brow pencils that I use. Brow Wiz and Brow Definer. Bonus points because I have let my hair go “gray” (it’s salt and mostly pepper) and the Ash Brown color is a great match. I tried a couple other less pricey brands but the ABH was the clear winner. It has staying power through the day and the color is definitely ashy with no red. I’ll chime in on your question to Kay about eyebrows and no makeup. The brow products need “something” to adhere to. The pencils will drag with no skincare or makeup. If I’m at home for the day, I use tinted moisturizer followed with powder and that works well. I’m considering getting microbladed brows but the jury is still out on that. Anyone have experience with that to give input?

      1. I have very light eyebrows, can’t use pencils. But after trying zillions of products, Anastasia’s powder eyebrow compact is perfect. Sometimes I just use it try, and sometimes i wet the brush first. I use the blonde/taupe, you get two shades in it, which I blend however I wish. When wetting the brush I use the lightest color. So easy to apply.

  3. Hi Kay, thank you for what you do. I truly enjoy your blog and channel. You do such a nice job of encouraging women. I lost my job during the pandemic and struggled to get moving some days. Grateful to have found your channel and the enthusiasm I needed to get dressed and show up for my new unique days. Have a safe trip home from Georgia.

  4. Loved your comments in the Blessed for my Day section. Made me think of this verse:
“Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, But a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised.”
    Proverbs 31:30

  5. I have a routine that gets me ready for each day and if not followed my entire day is a bit off. So it is important to feel good about myself!
Your natural-looking makeup is very flattering. Tarte Tape really works well for me and the glow product is one I would try for certain occasions. Touch-ups during the day are rare for me beyond lip color so make-up that lasts is what I buy.
Thank you for suggesting the products and have a safe trip.

  6. Hi Kay,
I have the tarte tape concealer and the matt eyeshadow palet.
I have mature skin but I am also concerned about safe ingredients in cosmetics.
Have you covered this topic on your blog?,
    Would love your opinion.

  7. To the reader who asked of an Anastasia pencil would work: yes, for sure! I use the Brow Wiz daily. It’s kind of expensive compared to other pencils but the taupe shade is exactly right for me, as most pencils from the drugstore have too much warmth, which looks artificial. Because it’s so thin, you have total control. A very light application in a shade that’s not super dark would be appropriate for a no makeup look.

  8. What a blessing you are and this “Blessed for my day” was so encouraging to create beauty on the inside that comes only from time with Jesus Christ.

  9. Thank you so much for sharing all this beauty information. I have not worn makeup but a handful of times since March 2020. When I did go full face makeup I felt like a clown after so many months without. I’m going real simple from now on. Love many of the products you were showing. You’re beautiful. I appreciate you.
