Happy Friday! I’m so excited because we’re finally driving over to our new house this morning. We signed the closing paperwork on Wednesday, but had agreed to not take possession until last night. So this morning we are going out to breakfast and then heading over to our new home to take measurements and just look it over. Undoubtedly I’ll be wearing a sweatshirt or sweater because it’s taken a turn on the cool side here. Now let me show you my other daily outfits for the week. This is how I really dressed for my days.
Sizing Information
Just for reference, I’m 5’8″ and weigh about 155. I generally wear a size 8 or medium in dresses, tops, jackets and pants (or 29 or 30 in jeans), so that’s what I’m wearing in these looks unless I tell you otherwise. That way you can assume everything I show you is true to size unless I alert you to sizing up or down. I wear a size 9.5 shoe and, again, I’ll just let you know if I sized up or down in a shoe, otherwise it’s true to size.
How This Works
I want to focus more on styling tips and less on the products. So please assume everything I’m wearing is true to size and fits and feels great unless I tell you otherwise. After all, these are the things I’m choosing to wear in real life.
I’m providing shopping widgets after each outfit, and a lot of what I’m showing you is still available. I’m also trying to include more economical options where that’s appropriate. But if I forget to do that, just ask.
How I Really Dressed for Friday Shopping & Date Night
I spent the first half of Friday prepping for Saturday’s video shoot and the second half of the work day shopping for last minute details needed for the shoot. So that I could easily get in and out of fitting rooms, I put on my J.Jill maxi dress and some platform sandals. My maxi dress is no longer available in this green, but it is available in black and a floral print. I’ve linked to another similar one in the shopping widget, too. I always size down in dresses and tops at J.Jill, so I’m wearing a small.
At 5’8″ I’m already pretty “long,” but if you’re shorter you might want to try a maxi dress like this one for its elongating effect. If you think it’s just too long, have it taken up a bit. Both dresses are also available in petite and plus sizes.
I thought adding a scarf was a good choice for this day because it was a little cool outside. But a pretty pendant necklace would work well here, too. I topped the dress with my denim jacket when I was out and about.

Later that evening we met some friends for a date night. I decided to change into jeans and a new red blouse I’d received in the mail that day. I love the cheerful red floral print in this flutter sleeve top. It’s definitely a little darker red than the photo on the website indicates, but I still think it’s a nice shade of red.
I just added a demi multi strand necklace and switched out my shoes for my suede slide sandals. I love taking along a satchel style handbag on date nights because they just seem more feminine to me. And my straw satchel from Brighton seemed like a good choice on a pretty spring evening. My bag nor my watch are included in the shopping widget below, by the way. How I Really Dressed for My Day Saturday
Saturday I got out my weekend email and then showered and headed out for an 11 a.m. manicure and pedicure appointment. I needed to wear something that would work for the pedicure, so I opted for my Brooklyn wide leg crop pants from Athleta. These lightweight abrasion resistant Recycled Polyester/Lycra® Spandex pants are so comfortable for travel or even walks around the neighborhood. But they worked perfectly for soaking my feet that morning, too.
I topped the Brooklyn wide leg crop pants with a v-neck leopard print tee from J.Crew Factory. This vintage cotton v-neck tee is less than $20 and fits true to size. I like that the silhouette is just a tad tapered.
The rest of the day I was changing in and out of clothes for the videos we shot. SPOILER ALERT: Next week you’ll see me show you multiple ways to wear this classic black dress. It’s lovely!!!
How I Dressed for Church Sunday
Cooler weather started moving in on Sunday and it was a little messy outside. So, since I was attending our more contemporary service, I opted for my black blazer over one of our church logo t-shirts. I anchored the outfit with my Nic+Zoe black straight leg pants (love, love, love) and kept the vibe relaxed with my white sneakers (more economical option).
I know this is a lot of black, but some days this is just how I roll. I absolutely love wearing black, always have. But I felt like the grey hoodie dickey and white sneakers added just a little light to the outfit.
How I Really Dressed for Errands Monday
Monday I worked from home most of the day, but I did manage to get out and run some errands. The day was just too pretty not to leave the house for a while. So I topped my flax colored Everlane way-high jeans with the graphic tee in yesterday’s post. I kept these flax way-high jeans because I thought they’d be a fun alternative to white jeans. But I’ve struggled a little styling them.
First of all the flax color is not as slenderizing as I think the distressed blue jeans are. And I think in order to make the lines slender at all it’s pretty important to keep the contrast in intensity level low (see this post for more information). So I think this pale blue/green tee works pretty well. And I especially like it once I added the denim jacket over it.
Of course, I think another key to styling these flax colored jeans is wearing nude or flesh toned shoes or sandals. White sneakers might work, too. But I really like the flesh tone shoe here best I think.
I edited Wednesday’s video all day Tuesday so I never really got dressed per se. I mean I’m at my desk for a good 14 hours most Tuesdays. So I just wear something that I can get out for quick walks throughout the day. Some days that’s worth showing, others it’s not. Tuesday was one of those days when it just wasn’t worth taking a photo…trust me!
How I Dressed for Our House Closing on Wednesday
Of course, it was just signing papers. But we did actually get to meet the sellers of our home. They lived in the house for 27 years and took such amazing care of the house. It was a pleasure to meet them. After we signed the papers James and I went to Graeter’s for ice cream to celebrate.
I wore my Madewell Perfect Vintage Raw Hem jeans, the same ones I shared in yesterday’s fashion post. They’re also available at Madewell, of course. Maybe they’ll go on sale this weekend. These have turned into one of my favorite pairs of jeans. They’re in the newer silhouette, but they still have a trimming effect and they’re in a nice, classic wash. They fit true to size; I wear a 29.
I topped the vintage raw hem jeans with my oversized shirt from Gap. It’s no longer available in the solid white, but they still have the pink and the blue and white stripe. It’s not as oversized, but this Everlane silky cotton shirt looks like a good deal, and their quality is always noteworthy.
I kept the look classic by wearing my leopard print pumps and some substantial statement jewelry from Chico’s (no longer available). My pumps, from Ann Taylor, are no longer available, but now they have the same print in a slingback. I find AT shoes to be quite comfortable, and I think the slingbacks would be a very versatile option.
Because it was quite cool, I topped the look with my classic black trench jacket (similar) when I left the house.
What I Wore Thursday Out to Lunch
I wish so badly that our warm weather had stuck around this week. Alas it did not. I had such grand plans for pretty colors and sandals. But it was quite chilly yesterday, only 48 degrees when I left the house for lunch with my friends. I had a Zoom meeting in the morning, too. So I wore my red fisherman sweater with a white crew neck tee underneath with my Talbots straight leg jeans. These are the ones I cut off, as mentioned in this post.
Just to add a little interest to the outfit, I wore my leopard print Madewell sneakers. I forget I have these things! But they’re great sneakers. Size down one half size. Well, I just realized they’re almost sold out. But these look fun, too. And Madewell has several other fun styles to choose from as well.
Thanks so much for dropping in today. I hope you enjoyed looking through my daily looks for the past seven or so days. I’m really hoping for warmer weather next week so I can wear more sandals and such. But I do remember this time last year thinking that I needed to buy more cotton sweaters this year, and that’s exactly what I did. And I’ve been glad to have them!

Blessed for My Day
Have you counted your blessings lately? Knowing you, you probably have. The older we get, the more blessed we feel to have our health, our family members, a warm home and a little purposeful work to do each day. These are good gifts from the Lord indeed.
But let’s not become so enamored with the blessings of this earthly life that we lose sight of the greatest miracle of all…that our names are written in the Lamb’s book of life in heaven. Nothing provides more of a sense of belonging, more safety and security, more warmth and love or more joy than knowing that your eternal fate is secure with God in heaven. I do hope that you have that assurance indeed. If you do, praise the Lord. This is the richest blessing of all. If you don’t have that security, I’d love to share with you HERE how you can have it.
The seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.” And He said to them, “I was watching Satan fall from heaven like lightning. Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing will injure you. Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are recorded in heaven.” ~ Luke 10:17-20
Hi Kay,
Love your stylish choices. You look great.
Thanks Teresa. I appreciate you dropping in. 🌸
What a fabulous BFMD! Without that assurance, I would be in such a bad place now. The chemo that Larry had been on stopped working on the multiple myeloma, so he started a whole new chemo regimen on Wed. For eight weeks it’s going to be pretty grueling, then it drops to every other week for eight weeks, then monthly. Any way, I really like what you wore over the past week. I am going to order the Altheleta pants. The denim jacket and scarf really make the look with your maxi dress. Have fun in your new home today after breakfast! I am so happy and excited for you and James! And I can’t wait to see how y’all make the home yours!
Thanks Ginger. We’re excited. Prayers for Larry’s treatment to be successful and tolerable. 💙
Sometimes we forget to stop and count our blessings here on earth, but it is the ones waiting for us in Heaven that we usually forget about. Thank you God. Loved the reminder. Looked so cute as usual in your outfits and love that God has blessed you and James with a new home.
Thank you Sherry.
Enjoy your BFMD every day . I however could never wear sneakers to church on Sunday must be my age. Blessings to you and James as you serve the Lord . Have a great weekend.
Thank you for sharing, Sharon. 😊
I love the red fisherman sweater with jeans and the white oversized shirt. Two of my own favorite looks. We are having so much rain along the coast so rain boots are the shoes of the day here, But I do have a leopard pair to die for so I’m a happy duck. 😊
BFMD is a constant reminder to me to count my blessings snd the best one is knowing our family’s name is written in the book.
Yes, I am counting my blessings today! My dermatologist removed a fast-growing growth on my cheek on Tuesday and declared it cancerous. Biopsy result-benign! I count my blessings daily as I have been richly blessed in this life. And I always joke that “good” skin is not one of my blessings. And blessings to you and James in your new home. Looking forward to your journey.
Hallelujah! I’m so glad you got a good report. 🙌🏻
Kay, Thank you for giving me a better focus than on my earthly blessings today! I ill focus on the very best blessing of all-that my name is ritten and my husband, son and daughter-in-love as ell- in the Book of Life! Amen!! I’m so very happy for you that you have a beautiful house!
Thanjavur you Natalie. We are very thrilled with it. Now just to move in!
Very nice put together looks for each day. It is interesting that you dress down for church.
Just on the Sundays that I go to the contemporary service, and not always even then. But we do try to communicate that people are welcome in whatever so I feel like it’s important that I reinforce that message with my own clothing choices occasionally.
Hi Kay! Love your style and you are such an inspiration! Could you tell me what size you ordered in the red blouse? Thank you!
Sure. I have a medium. Thanks for reading. 🥰
Love your outfits. A big Congrats on your new home. I hope we see more od it in the future. So happy for your and James.
Thank you. Yes, I’ll definitely share once we start doing something there. We’ll be moving in slowly.

Congratulations on your new home. Your BFMD is so encouraging. Your love for the Lord and others is very evident. God bless you.
Thanks so much Marcie. We are so very blessed.
Loved your flirty date night outfit! James must beam with you on his arm! Yes, a grateful heart for so many blessings including a precious husband! Now you’ve got me ordering from the 🏖 beach in Hawaii 🤩🌺🌊. May you always find the presence of the Lord in your new earthly home!! 💜💜
Thank you Sheree. Enjoy your time at the beach. Marvelous!
Love your style and you are such an inspiration. I struggle with clothes and I’m 5.1 inch tall…with an apple shape. Over 60 and just don’t know what to wear anymore! LOL I’m so glad I’ve found your YouTube channel and signed up for your emails too. Have a blessed day!!
So glad I found your blog and YouTube channel. You are a blessing
Wondering (if you feel you can answer) you prefer VE for heels – Calla or Ally for comfort? I have bunions – more on my right foot and want to find some Comfy heels! I wasn’t too excited about the heels at Calla with a thicker sole on the front. 💕💕
I don’t have bunions, so the Ally heels feel great on my feet. But I’m not really sure how they’d work for feet with bunions simply because I don’t have any experience with that at all. But I know you can order wide sizes and I know they’re good about returns too.
