Happy Friday! I hope you are enjoying some pretty spring weather. We had our first week of real spring weather every single day. A little sun, a little wind, a little rain, but nice temperatures all week. So today as I share how I really dressed for the week, you’ll see more true spring clothes than in weeks past. I really like all of these outfits.
Sizing Information
Just for reference, I’m 5’8″ and weigh about 155. I generally wear a size 8 or medium in dresses, tops, jackets and pants (or 29 or 30 in jeans), so that’s what I’m wearing in these looks unless I tell you otherwise. That way you can assume everything I show you is true to size unless I alert you to sizing up or down. I wear a size 9.5 shoe and, again, I’ll just let you know if I sized up or down in a shoe, otherwise it’s true to size.
How This Works
I want to focus more on styling tips and less on the products. So please assume everything I’m wearing is true to size and fits and feels great unless I tell you otherwise. After all, these are the things I’m choosing to wear in real life.
I’m providing shopping widgets after each outfit, and a lot of what I’m showing you is still available. I’m also trying to include more economical options where that’s appropriate. But if I forget to do that, just ask.
How I Dressed for Friday
Friday I had an appointment with my interior decorator to select the furniture for my family room. We haven’t had any new furniture in over 20 years, so I’m excited to get a little bit of new stuff as we move into our new home. While I know nothing about interior design, I wanted to wear something that made me feel confident and pulled together. I can’t explain why exactly. I just knew I needed to bring my A game to the consultation.
So I wore a pair of modern jeans, a sleeveless white tank with a few elevated details and my baby blue blazer. I added some pretty jewelry and nude pumps to polish off the outfit. Indeed, I felt ready for the day.
Neither the lace-up tank nor the blazer are available anymore. The tank is from White House Black Market last summer. I think this shell or this matte jersey tassel tank (also available in black, a beautiful green and a couple of prints) would accomplish the same look. And they’d look perfect paired with either this baby blue faux suede drape-front jacket or this iced mint buttoned-front military jacket.
My Ally Bossy Beige pumps served me well. I was on my feet a lot that day, but these classic pumps kept me feeling sharp and pulled together without sacrificing comfort…too much. Ha! If you’re interested in Ally’s scientifically designed pumps or flats, be sure to use my coupon codes for a discount. Use code KAYHEELS FOR $40 off your first pair of heels or KAYFLATS for 10% off your first pair of flats.

How I Dressed Saturday
The first half of Saturday I spent doing housework. But then we headed out to look at paint for the interior of the house. It was a cold, rainy day, so I needed to pull out one of my trusty cotton spring sweaters again. I’m so proud of myself for buying these cotton sweaters. Ha! (Next year spring my goal is to have a couple of pairs of booties that I can enjoy wearing with spring outfits. I’m so tired of having freezing feet!)
If you’re a regular here, you’ve seen all of this before. Both my striped cotton fisherman sweater and my straight leg chinos are from J.Crew. The pants come in several nice colors, but are regular price right now. The cotton fisherman sweater is 10% off and you get an extra 25% off with code COUNTDOWN. They both run true to size. I’m wearing the size 30 in the chinos, but they’re quite roomy on me.
I think the element that really completes this look and makes it appear more pulled together is the white crewneck tee I wore under the sweater. Of course, most any white crewneck tee will do here, but this one is also from J.Crew and it is 40% off with code COUNTDOWN. I’m wearing a medium in the white and it comes in 11 other colors. Anyhow, just that white crewneck peeking through the collar of my fisherman sweater really gives this outfit a more youthful, fresh vibe. Oh, and the white sneakers (more economical option) play a part, too.
How I Really Dressed for Sunday Morning
Of course Sunday morning I went to church. For the first time in a while I managed to get myself together for the earlier, more traditional service. I like to rotate between the two so that I can see the people in both services as much as possible. And when I attend the more traditional service I tend to dress up a little more; not that I have to, but it gives me an excuse to. So I pulled out a dress from a couple of years ago and paired it with my navy blazer.
I don’t remember if I took the blazer off or not, but I wanted to be sure that I could if I needed to. This dress is no longer available, of course. But Talbots has several that are similar. While it’s short sleeved instead of 3/4 length sleeved, I think I like this blue and green tie front sheath dress the most. But I have others in the shopping widget for you, too.
Remember, Talbots is having their Friends & Family event, so you get 30% off your purchase.
I think this dress looks stunning with nude pumps. I didn’t wear any pantyhose this day. I just put on a quick application of my favorite sunless tanner instead (with this mitt). But you absolutely can wear pantyhose with your close toed shoes. Just keep them sheer and flesh toned. I recommend these.
How I Really Dressed for Our Church Cookout
Sunday evening we had our first churchwide fellowship in what seems like forever. #stayhomeorders We had perfect weather for grilling outside and over 100 people were scattered out across the lawn in folding chairs. It was so nice to sit spaced out and enjoy a casual meal together. I know not everyone is getting to do this yet, but we kept well within our state’s guidelines.
Anyhow I wore ankle jeans and a lightweight slub cotton sweater topped with a blue tencel field jacket. The splash of color felt cheerful but the outfit still felt suitably understated and casual.
I kept my jewelry simple and wore my suede espadrilles. Unfortunately my suede espadrilles are sold out, but Talbots just came out with this Izzy espadrilles in beautiful colors. My floral mask is also from Talbots.
Everything I’m wearing runs true to size. In fact, the jeans, in which I’m wearing my usual size 8, are a bit roomy. But they don’t fall down on me or anything. And I actually enjoy the roominess. I love the released hem on these ankle jeans.
How I Really Dressed Monday
Monday I edited this week’s video, so most of the day was spent at my desk. But I did need to get out and run just a few errands to the post office and such. So I made an effort. Plus, it was such a pretty spring day. That also compelled me to get dressed in something spring-like.
I’m taping a video this weekend about creating chic outfits with simple separates and I think I’ll include this outfit. I love the way these Madewell military straight pants combine with a white henley t-shirt for a fresh and somewhat sophisticated but casual look. I think the key is having simple separates in your closet that also have modern lines and interesting details, but that don’t look fussy or overly adorned. Another key is having accessories to work with like this leather belt and my flesh toned leather sandals.
By the way, this Slub Cotton-Modal Henley T-Shirt is a touch on the sheer side, but not so see-through that it prevented me from wearing it. Just an FYI. It runs true to size and it’s currently 48% off in the cart. The military straight pants are also discounted today. I’m wearing the size 29. I know they look longer on the website, but these are indeed the pants. My daughter, who is a Madewell store manager, says their pants often appear longer on the website than they really are.
How I Dressed for Tuesday
Tuesday I got out and ran errands and then had a photo shoot with James in the afternoon. I actually put on the same outfit as the day before for much of the day. But that evening, after the photo shoot, I dressed in my balloon jeans, a simple tank (mine is ecru but I can’t find that shade anywhere) and this fun ruana to attend a women’s small group Bible study at my church. We met outdoors and it was a beautiful spring evening.
My platform sandals, which I bought on sale a few weeks ago, are back at full price. But these Steve Maddens are quite similar. Remember, flesh toned shoes, whether they’re pumps or sandals or loafers, elongate the leg and work with such versatility in your closet.
How I Dressed for My Day Wednesday
Wednesday was a fun day. I got my work done early and then met a small group of ladies for lunch in a nearby park. Our women’s ministry team lined up a series of meet-ups that we could sign up for online. Women could choose from outdoor brown bag gatherings and coffee, lunch or dinner meet-ups in restaurants. I opted for the lunchtime brown bag at the park. There were just four of us, but we had the best time! We’ll definitely be doing more of these I’m sure.
It was a pretty spring morning, but rain was coming in that afternoon. I wore my black fatigue barrel pants (wearing a size 10 a little loosely) and a pretty pink cotton modal t-shirt from Talbots. These barrel pants are so comfortable and lightweight. They’re going to see lots of wear this summer. And they’ll be so easy to pair with a simple t-shirt for quick comfort and cool vibes.
I’ve had my Sam Edelman leopard print slides for going on three summers now. I absolutely love these little sandals. The first summer they came out I waited all summer for them to go on sale and they never did, so I just bit the bullet and paid full price. But I’ve definitely gotten the wear out of them. Price per wear is certainly in the pennies by now. Adding leopard print sandals or sneakers is such an easy way to elevate a simple summer or spring outfit.
How I Dressed for an #IRL Meet Up Thursday
Thursday was another fun meet-up. I met up in real life with one of our Facebook Private Group hostesses, Holly. If you’re not a part of the group, but you’re on Facebook, be sure to join us! You do need to answer the 3 or 4 questions to get in the group. We’re pretty strict about that because we’re trying to keep it safe and creeper-free. Ha!
I wore my modern Way High Jeans (sized up to a 30, as I usually do with Everlane) with a pretty floral flutter sleeve top. Let me tell you about this top. I can’t find one just like it anywhere, but I received it yesterday morning in my Lauren Look box. The Lauren Look is a subscription style service where you basically rent Ralph Lauren clothes for as long as you want with the option to buy.
You register with The Lauren Look and pay a monthly fee. Then you select a “closet full” of clothes from their weekly new arrivals in your size. In each box they send you four pieces from your closet, and you can prioritize items if you need them sooner than others. Shipping and returns are free. You wear the clothes as long as you want and then return them. They launder everything, so you don’t even have to do that. Or you can buy anything in your box at a discounted price.
If you enjoy subscription services like this, I think this is a great one. These are all high quality clothes, and you could potentially get as many as four boxes in a month at that one monthly rate. If you click through my link you can try The Lauren Look and receive a $30 credit on your account. The monthly cost of the service is $125.
I wore the floral flutter sleeve shirt (I’ve got similar options for you in the shopping widget below) with a front tuck. But I wanted you to see how long the shirt really is and how it fits. I also wanted you to see how different I look with it tucked and untucked. I really think the tuck and belt create such a pulled together look and help with proportions.
Oh, I almost forgot to mention my pointy toe loafers. Aren’t they great? They’re baby blue croc. They were a little tight at first, but felt better within minutes of putting them on. These flats come in other colors and patterns, too. I really think they make this outfit.
Later when I was contemplating keeping this particular top, I tried it with other things in my closet. Remember, before you bring anything new into your wardrobe make sure it works with at least three other pieces to create unique outfits. I think this floral flutter sleeve tops works beautifully with the linen crop pants I shared in yesterday’s post.
I picked up this belt last summer and never have worn it. I thought I’d wear it frequently, but I’ve had a hard time figuring out what to wear it with. Until now. I think it works beautifully with these linen straight leg crop pants (30% off at Talbots, not included in shopping widget), don’t you? Mine is in ivory, but it comes in a number of colors.
I’m wearing the with my Tory Burch Miller sandals, which are quite pricey. But have you seen these Sam Edelman Circus sandals? I honestly wish I had those instead, but they didn’t come out until the year after I took the plunge and purchased these.
Well, that’s a wrap! Thanks so much for stopping in. These weekly posts always take longer for me to write up than I think they’re going to. So I often find myself rushing through them to get everything in here and out to you in a timely manner. So if I missed a detail that you’d like to know, just ask me in the comments. I’ll keep an eye on them and try to get back with you ASAP. Have a great Friday!

Blessed for My Day
Does prayer make a difference in your life? I don’t just mean do you get answers to your prayers. I believe God answers every prayer…eventually. So praying today certainly makes a difference in my life in the long run. But the question is does praying today make a difference in my life today?
Hannah prayed in faith to the Lord in her time of distress. She asked Him to bless her with a child, but she also poured out her heart to Him and praised Him. She surely must have exalted God in her prayers. So when she arose from kneeling before God she no longer felt despondent. She was able to eat, wipe away her tears and walk forward in faith. As we pour out our hearts to God let’s trust Him with the matters we’ve shared. Let’s get up off our knees and walk forward through our day with faith and joy and renewed strength.
As for Hannah, she was very distressed. She prayed to the Lord and was, in fact, weeping….It turned out that she did a great deal of praying before the Lord….So the woman went her way and got something to eat. Her face no longer looked sad. ~ 1 Samuel 1:10,12,18b
Kay,
I am 9.5 shoe also, what size ALLY pump did you get?
I actually ended up with a 9.5 wide and I don’t normally wear a wide. But if you have narrow feet, which I don’t, then I’d definitely stick with the regular. I think they have a size guide??
I wanted to let you know that there are 2 products that I use that you have recommended and I really like them: Pore fessional primer by Benefit and retinol cream by Advanced Clinicals. Your BFMD have been right on this week for me. Thank you for your blog and best wishes and good health in your new home.
Wonderful to hear. Thanks so much for letting me know. I think those are good products.
The second look with tucked shirt and belt look better and untying the neck was a good thing. I always need that scoop or V neck. Tied things bother me since I was told by a man I admired that my gold silk blouse tied at the neck with a bow made me look like a school marm. 😀😝
Yes, I definitely like it untied better too. I just couldn’t get it to lie flat yesterday morning so ended up tying it. But when I got home I had more time to play with it. Thanks for sharing Eve. 🥰
Kay, you look beautiful in every outfit! I like that there are a lot of fellowship activities for women at your church! The Blessed For My Day post is very encouraging and uplifting! Have a great weekend!
Yes, we’ve just started those up recently and while only about 20 or fewer women took advantage of those fellowships I feel like more will with time. We all need fellowship so much. 🥰
What a great BFMD! Oh, Kay, I really like what you wore over the past week, but my favorites are the two outfits on Sunday and then Monday. Oh, I also really like the Madewell slub cotton top and am going to check it out. I hope that you are having a great day!
KAY,W OULD YOU PLEASE START GIVING US THE BIBLE TRANSLATION YOU ARE USING?! THANK YOU SO MUCH!! HAVE A BLESSED WEEKEND!
Hi Kay,
Have just found your blog and videos and I love them. Just wanted to let you know I found your Ralph Lauren top in the Kohl’s Chaps line. It’s on sale but alas no large or extra large for a big girl like me but if you are a med, or smaller they have it. Thought you’d like to know.
Hey Bobbie! Thanks so much.
Don’t know if it’s the hair or the simple Monday look but you look 10 years younger. Maybe it’s both! 😉 I enjoy your blog.
Hahaha! Thanks. I did get my hair cut on Monday. 😉
