Happy Friday! It’s that time again. While Monday through Thursday I try to inspire all of us (including myself!) with current style hacks, up-to-date fashions and wearable trends, I keep it real on Fridays. This is when I share how I really dressed for my days. These are my daily outfits from last Friday through Thursday of this week.

How I Really Dressed for My Day 02/04/21 - 02/11/21

Sizing Information

Just for reference, I’m 5’8″ and weigh about 155. I generally wear a size 8 or medium in dresses, tops, jackets and pants (or 29 or 30 in jeans), so that’s what I’m wearing in these looks unless I tell you otherwise. That way you can assume everything I show you is true to size unless I alert you to sizing up or down. I wear a size 9.5 shoe and, again, I’ll just let you know if I sized up or down in a shoe, otherwise it’s true to size.

How This Works

I want to focus more on styling tips and less on the products. So please assume everything I’m wearing is true to size and fits and feels great unless I tell you otherwise. After all these are the things I’m choosing to wear in real life.

I’m providing shopping widgets after each outfit, and a lot of what I’m showing you is still available. I’m also trying to include more economical options where that’s appropriate. But if I forget to do that, just ask.

Let’s get started!

How I Really Dressed for Go Red for Women Friday

Last Friday I wore red in acknowledgement of heart disease being the number one killer of women. It’s was fun seeing so many of you wear red, too, in our Dressed for My Day private Facebook group.

Because I was getting out for a bit – for house-hunting and dinner – I chose to wear my grey wool blend slacks with my red cashmere turtleneck. I love how this comes together tucked in and belted.

Friday a
similar red cashmere turtleneck // similar red (non-cashmere) turtleneck sweater (on sale) // luxe wool trousers // black booties (61% off) // belt // earrings

My red cashmere sweater is sold out but I found one at Lands’ End to include in the shopping widget below. And you could easily duplicate this look with this red turtleneck sweater, which is just $21. I don’t know why I don’t think to wear one of those occasionally. I guess I just love the softness and warmth of my cashmere.

But to me the key to this outfit is these grey pants. They are softly lined and made of such a nice lightweight wool blend fabric. Mine are in the curvy fit, but they do come in a regular fit as well.

Shop the Looks

I’m providing shopping widgets for each look. These links and the ones in my copy are affiliate links. If you shop through them I potentially earn a commission on your purchase, but at no cost to you. Thank you for supporting my work here by shopping my links. I appreciate you.

How I Really Dressed for Errands Saturday Morning

Saturday we shot videos. But, as usual, I had to run a few errands first. It was freezing cold outside, so I wore my Venice heathered pintuck pants from Athleta. These thick TENCEL Modal™ pants are so warm, but still look pulled together and somewhat professional. Mine are dark brown, but they’re also available in black. They run true to size and are marked down just a tad right now.

Saturday a
beaded bracelet // earrings // pintuck pants // Jacquard Crew Sweater // Sorel Lennox Lace-Up Boots

I topped the pintuck pants with my frosted floral cream Jacquard Crew Sweater. It’s been marked down more than 50% and is available in a couple of other colors and patterns, too. Since there was ice on the ground, I was glad I had my Sorel Lennox Lace-Up Boots. These dark brown boots with genuine shearling trim on the front panel are marked down 40% right now. If you’ve been eyeing them, now’s the time to jump on them. I did size up .5 to a 10, and I’m glad I did.

How I Really Dressed for Shooting Videos

I don’t normally include these outfits in my daily looks, since I just wear them for half an hour or so while I shoot videos. But I think I actually wore this outfit a little longer. Plus, it’s just so darn cute. So sunny and bright. I couldn’t resist sharing it. And everything else in this post is so dark. I thought we all could use a splash of pink!

Shooting videos
Vineyard Vines Jamie skinnies // cotton shaker stitch sweater //camisole // Madewell Sidewalk sneakers // flowery hoop earrings

Can you tell I was shooting spring videos? Ha! Anyhow this cotton shaker stitch sweater (in orchid petal) is so comfortable and soft. With a camisole under it I was quite comfortable on this chilly day. And I think this long length sweater definitely looks best with skinny jeans, so my new Vineyard Vines Jamie skinnies were the obvious choice. I just finished the look with my Madewell Sidewalk sneakers (size down 1/2 size). Oh, and we can’t forget those darling “springy” flowery hoop earrings.

How I Really Dressed for Church Sunday

Sunday I went to our more traditional service and then drove out to look at a house we were interested in. Then James and I ended up meeting our realtor to see the house. It was a dead end, unfortunately.

I wore the same Donegal tweed pants I showed in Monday’s post, but this time with a deep purple cashmere sweater, which is no longer available.

Sunday a
Donegal tweed pants // earrings // necklace // similar bracelet // suede boots

I would have loved to have worn my new Paul Green suede pumps. But because there was snow on the ground, I opted for my suede boots. I added splashes of pretty gold jewelry to brighten up this outfit.

How I Really Dressed for Working from Home Monday

This has been an extremely cold and wintery week. We’ve had snow on the ground for close to two weeks…I think. I’ve lost track of time, honestly. I guess I’m getting a taste of the winter doldrums. The days really seem to be running together. Which may explain why you’re going to see me repeat an outfit in a bit. Ha!

But on Monday I put on my fleece lined pants so that I could get out for a brisk walk or two up and down my little street as I worked from home. It looks like the fleece lined pants are almost sold out and only available in one petite size. Have I told you how much I love these pants???

Monday a
fleece lined pants // leopard print long sleeve tee // Blondo waterproof booties // goldenrod sweatshirt (similar) // classic gold hoops

I topped the fleece lined pants with my leopard print long sleeve tee and my goldenrod sweatshirt (similar). And I wore my Blondo waterproof booties for navigating the snow and ice. My booties are 38% off again, and they’re restocked in the mushroom nubuck. These shoes are extremely comfortable, lightweight and fun to wear. They have an inner zipper for easy on and off.

How I Really Dressed for My Day Editing the Video on Tuesday

Tuesdays I’m pretty much glued to my office chair for 10-12 hours, except for the occasional walk outside for fresh air. So I generally wear leggings or joggers. On this day I wore my black leggings from L.L.Bean and my soft pink hoodie from J.Jill. Unfortunately my pink hoodie is only available in a few petite, women’s and tall sizes now. But it’s available in an equally pretty oatmeal in the misses sizes. I generally size down to a small in tops at J.Jill, and that’s what I’m wearing here.

Tuesday a
soft pink hoodie // black leggings from L.L.Bean // Sorel Lennox Lace-Up Boots // earrings

To me these black leggings from L.L.Bean look a little brown. At least they are a dusty black. So that’s why I wore them with my dark brown Sorel Lennox Lace-Up Boots. I love an outfit like this for when I’m working from home. It makes me feel pretty and ready for the day, but still comfortable and “at home.”

How I Really Dressed for Teaching on Zoom on Wednesday

Like I said, these winter days are blurring together. I guess that’s why I basically repeated last Saturday morning’s outfit on Wednesday. Ha! Yeah, just four days later I put on the same thing, thinking I was wearing something oh so new. Hehehe!

Wednesday a
pintuck pants // Jacquard Crew Sweater // ivory lightweight turtleneck // Paul Green loafers // earrings

Well, actually I did switch out my boots for my comfy Paul Green loafers (still 44% off and available). These are the most comfortable, softest shoes I’ve ever put on my feet. I’ve ordered these Dara loafers and I’m hoping they feel just as soft. I also added an ivory lightweight turtleneck under my sweater on this chilly day.

How I Really Dressed for Yet Another Day Working from Home

You see, it snowed. And then it iced over. And then it snowed again. And while I don’t mind driving in a little fresh snow, I don’t care to drive on ice. So I’ve been home absolutely all week. And I’m about to go C-R-A-Z-Y. Hahaha! Anyhow, I’m still trying to pull myself together each day.

So yesterday I wore my other fleece lined pants. Ha! Are you seeing a pattern here? (Maybe I should put these HIRDFMD posts on hold until spring!) I do love these coffee house brown lined cargo pants. On this day I dressed them up a bit with my ivory cashmere sweater from LiLy Silk. This cashmere sweater is a good price already, but you can save 12% on your order with code KAY12.

Thursday a
fleece lined pants // ivory cashmere sweater (use code Kay12 for 12% savings) // Paul Green loafers // earrings // camisole

Cold Weather Tip: Under almost every outfit I’ve shown here I’m wearing a flesh toned camisole like these. They keep me warm without adding too much heat. Plus they’re soft, adjustable and light weight.

Well that’s it for the week. I’ll try to be a little more creative in my daily looks next week. Hahaha! Unfortunately, I think we’re looking at more snow. But maybe I’ll at least wear jeans and some colorful sweaters here and there.

Thanks so much for reading today’s post. If you have questions about anything I’ve shown, don’t hesitate to ask. Have a lovely Friday!

Blessed for My Day

Several years ago now the Lord rescued me out of a difficult season of my life. He healed my hurting heart, broke the chains that held me in bondage, wiped away my tears and set me back on solid ground. I wrote a little about that in my Bible study about Joseph. But I tried to keep that study focused on the main character and not on me.

Still, I don’t mind sharing my story any chance I’m given. I love telling others how God broke me free from that captivity because I know it gives them hope that He can do the same for them. And He absolutely can. Has God done some amazing things in your life? I bet He has. And I encourage you to share those testimonies of God’s power and love and goodness every chance you get, always being careful to give Him all the glory. Your story could offer the hope that someone desperately needs.

I waited patiently for the Lord;
And He reached down to me and heard my cry.
He brought me up out of the pit of destruction, out of the mud;
And He set my feet on a rock, making my footsteps firm.
He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God;
Many will see and fear
And will trust in the Lord. ~ Psalm 40:1-3

xoxo, Kay

  1. You look great in all of your WIWTW! Appreciate your taking the time to show me what you wore as it is motivating to look my best. Thank you.

  2. Oh my! That pink sweater is fabulous and looks great on you. I am heading over to Talbots now! Have a great weekend.

    1. Yes, I like it much more than I thought I would. I don’t normally care for that length of sweater but I think it looks nice with skinny jeans. And the color selections are fun too.

  3. Hi Kay! Thank you so much for trying to focus more on the styling rather than on clothing from specific stores. I appreciate that so much. Many times some of the beautiful clothing from more high-end stores are out of my price range, but find close to the same style in more affordable shops. again. I am learning so much from your blog. (I am 70 years young!) 🙂

    1. I’m glad you enjoyed the post Jane. I fear I didn’t give a lot of style tips alas. But these were such simple outfits that I’ve worn time and again. As we get into spring maybe I’ll have more to offer. Thanks for reading! 😊

  4. It is really cold here in Minnesota the past 2 weeks. Snow and temps below zero r everyday.
Reports are it has been the most days in a row below zero since 2014. Have also been wearing
    a lot of warm sweaters.
Love the blessed for my day. Psalm 40:1-3. We have to trust Him.

  5. Kay,

I love all the looks you put together. They are both chic and practical. You have such good taste, and I like to follow your lead! I so appreciate the Bible passages!
Please keep up the good work!!

  6. Love these weekly posts. They inspire me to try a bit harder to look good no matter what the weather. Sort of a ” if she can do it so can I” mentality. Please do not put them on hold till Spring. You give us wonderful inspiration.

  7. Hello Kay, thank you for showing what you wore, it really gives me good ideas. It is really COLD here in Iowa, and we have had snow on top of snow, and some ice. Really a winter! Love the Blessed for the day scripture, thank you for sharring Gods word, and thank you for sharring the talant God gave you with us!!!!

  8. It’s cold here in Texas too!! I purchased the Chelsea lined cargo pants from Athleta and they are perfect for this cold weather!! Thanks for all your hard work in keeping us fashion forward and reminding us to get ‘dressed for our days’! All your looks are beautiful!!!

    1. Oh I’m so glad you got those. Obviously they are some of my favs 😂🤣😂 I know they’re a tad pricey, but they are so versatile and warm. What color did you get?

  9. Who doesn’t love cargo pants? But the pink sweater stole the show today. That is such a beautiful color of pink.
BFMD reminded me that if you trust God and get out of the way, he can bring peace. He never promises we will get over. Just that we will get through.

  10. I just discovered your blog and all I can say is ‘thank you’ for showing classy styles! I am 54 and have no interest in trying to look 25 but I do like to look stylish. You offer such wonderful ideas at reasonable prices.
It’s snowy, icy and cold here in Virginia too but I love it! At least for now.
    Thanks Kay!

  11. Thank you, Kay, for the inspiration! I’m a brand new subscriber, and I so appreciate your transparency. I work at home – much of my work outside, so thank you for your “fleece-lined” recommendations. And I love the pink, too! Valentine’s Day is upon us, even though it feels like the dead of winter here in far NW Washington state!

    1. I second that! Your hair and makeup are beautiful! Your inner beauty shines through! Love the style selections as well!

  12. I’m very new to you and Dressed for My Day. Can you direct me to previous posts regarding women who are undergoing chemotherapy who don’t feel or look their best for many reasons. That is me. Unfortunately my beautiful thick hair is all gone and my complexion is dry and damaged. I watched your 12 tips (plus 2) and will do my best but I’m wondering if you have suggestions for us undergoing treatment of cancer to feel better about ourselves. I feel blessed to have lived 8 great years since diagnosed, but would love to live 8 more graciously and purposefully. Thank you for any suggestions.

    1. Hello Amy. Welcome to Dressed for My Day. I’m so glad you are here. I do not have any posts along the lines that you’ve requested. I have not been through such a difficult situation as that myself. This is a personal blog, meaning that is pretty much based on my limited experience and research. I am grateful that you are here and I do hope you will find encouragement and some tips for looking and feeling your best. Bless you.

  13. Love the camisole. Going to use your link to check them out. I am hoping I can wear these under sweaters/tops and maybe skip a bra (I am busty).
Stay warm. Best of luck house hunting.
