Happy Friday! And welcome to Dressed for My Day. I’m so glad you dropped in for a little Friday fashion inspiration. In fact, I think the look I’m sharing today is perfect for Friday, whether you work in a casual environment or you’re taking in a matinee with a friend. Let’s talk about how to have fun with a blazer.
If you’ve been around Dressed for My Day long, you know that I love having a black blazer in my wardrobe. (More on that later!) Sometimes women tell me that blazers are too dressy for their lifestyle, but I have to question that.
You see, a blazer can be used to elevate a very casual look, giving it just enough class to help you look more pulled together and polished without sacrificing comfort or ease.
Styling Tip: One way to have fun with a blazer is to wear it over a hoodie. Whether your hoodie is a zip-up or a pullover, it will look darling peeking out from under your classic blazer.
Styling Tip: The only “rule” I’d suggest for this fun style would be that you wear a print or graphic hoodie under a solid blazer or a solid hoodie under a plaid blazer. Then again, a camo or leopard print hoodie like the one I’m wearing could operate as a solid, so it might work well under a plaid blazer. So much for rules!
Styling Tip: Another way to have fun with a blazer is to wear it with sneakers. Just because you’ve slipped on a blazer doesn’t mean you have to wear dress shoes. The juxtaposition of pairing a blazer with more casual shoes is chic, current and fun!
I could have carried a black bag, of course. But I chose to carry my brown tote (similar) so that it would pull out the similar brown in my leopard print hoodie.
Styling Tip: Keep your jewelry simple. Because I’m wearing a hoodie and there’s so much going on around the neck and the front of this pairing, I only added pretty earrings to this outfit, no other jewelry.
Styling Tip: Make sure you choose a hoodie that is lightweight enough to fit comfortably under your blazer. This look is all about comfort! So don’t sacrifice the comfort just to create the style. I chose this hoodie specifically because it is lightweight but still cozy and warm.
I’m actually wearing this look today. We’ll be catching a matinee and running some errands. I think I’ll be warm (it’s only in the 50s today), chic and comfortable! Let me know what you think about this look. I’d love to hear from you.
I’ve created a shopping widget with all of the elements in my look plus lots of fun hoodies. Many are available in additional colors and prints. But the only hoodie I can say for sure is true-to-size, lightweight enough to create the look and comfortable is the one I’m wearing. It’s also available in a grey and black color scheme.

As we set up new routines, goals and resolutions for 2020, let’s remember to give ourselves a little grace, too. I’ve already blown a couple of mine! Ha! But change is a process. While we certainly need to do our best to stick to the routines we believe will help us bring about those desired changes, we can’t beat ourselves up and just quit when we skip a beat. That’s when the enemy of our souls wins!
Instead, let’s be sure to invite God into the process. As we draw close to Him, read His Word, talk with Him about our goals and desires, He will work the changes in and through us. Don’t rule out the Holy Spirit’s gradual and sometimes indiscernible work.
For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age… ~ Titus 2:11-12
I really like this outfit and wear a version of it all the time. Thanks for the inspiration. Happy anniversary!
Great! Thanks for sharing Carrie. Have a lovely day!
Hoodies?!? Now you’re speaking my language! ? I love hoodies and sometimes think I have too many. Was it your wedding anniversary yesterday, too? I’ve never met anyone with the same anniversary as my husband and I! It was number 27 for us – 1/2/93. As my husband put it yesterday, he has now been married more years than not! Haha! I have one year to go to claim that. ? I enjoy your blog! Thanks for all your hard work.
Hi Bonnie. Yes our wedding anniversary was yesterday. 32!! And another reader said she had the same exact anniversary, too. So that makes three of us with January 2 wedding dates. Hahahah! Thanks for reading!
Add one more Jan 2 anniversary to the list! We celebrated 38 years together yesterday! Happy Anniversary to each of you!
I really like this idea. You can be comfy and casual with a touch of class! Great post!
What a fun look! I love it! Casual, yet classy. Perfect for a 50 + degree day!
Checking my closet for a long forgotten blazer now! Ha! Also, do you have a link for a Shapeez (sp?) bra. I’m thinking about giving that brand a try… Or do you have suggestions for others that are comfortable but still do the job? 😉
Love this fun, casual look. I’ll be sure to give it a try. I saw Little Women on New Year’s Day with my daughter. She was a little unsure about seeing the movie as she had not read the book, but we both enjoyed it. Hope you do too.
I have small shoulders and big bust so finding a blazer that fits well is a problem. I’ve never tried a blazer over a hoodie but I will now. I do like a red one with a white shirt and jeans. Belated happy anniversary. That’s a great photo!
I really like your hoodie and sneakers. I think why blazers aren’t in my closet now is because of the 32 years I had to wear them in corporate America. But you look so nice in them. That’s a great picture of you and James! We are in the upper 70’s, waiting on severe weather. It is so humid that the tile floors and bathroom mirrors are sweaty. The cold weather should be back tomorrow, thank goodness! I hope you enjoyed the movie.
I was one of the naysayers to blazers working with a casual style. Oops! You proved me wrong, and I love this outfit! I think I have a Talbots gift card somewhere…
Lol!! Well that’s definitely a win! Thanks Sandy. ?
Such great tips on how to stlye a blazer in a more casual way! This looks so comfortable! Enjoy the movie!
Like hoodie and causal shoes with blazer. Another good look!
Blazers are classic and I enjoy wearing them. They can be dressed up or worn casually. I like to wear my black or navy blazer with a chambray shirt, jeans and some pearls. Have a great weekend Kay. ~Lisa~
Love the style suggedtion of the joodie. A great look with the blazer. Thank you
I so agree with you about a jacket/blazer. Throwing a blazer on instantly makes an outfit ready for anything. Loved styling tips today
Great! Thanks for reading and sharing, Fonda. ?
I would have never put this combo together but I’m sold! Adorable! Thanks for making my box a little bigger Kay!
