Hello gals! Today I’m sharing a recent try-on session from J.Jill. I know that many of my readers enjoy J.Jill’s relaxed but chic vibe. While I never seem to manage to try on nearly as many pieces as I first think I did, I am showing you several easy-to-wear selections that represent their spring line. And today you can get all of their pants 30% off. (The discounted price will be reflected in the shopping bag.)
Sizing
For reference, I’m 5’8″ and weigh about 155 pounds. I generally wear size 8 across the board, but if jeans have a good bit of elastic in them I wear a 6. I vacillate between smalls and mediums pretty evenly depending on the store and style. At J.Jill I usually wear an 8 in pants and jeans, but a small in tops and dresses. I find their tops and dresses to be more generously sized, while their pants are often more slim cut.
I’ll let you know how the different pieces fit on me and what size I’m wearing. Let’s get started!
Spring selections from J.Jill
Pure Jill Indigo Knit Drawstring Jeans // These knit drawstring jeans feature the flexibility and pull-on waistline of leggings. I’m wearing a size Medium and they fit true to size. First up, I’ll show a photo of the shirt tucked in just so you can get a better view of the pants. They also feature a faux fly, back patch pockets and whiskering on the front to give them the look of a longtime favorite.
Cotton-Stretch Popover Tunic // I tried on my usual (for J.Jill) small in this Cotton-Stretch Popover Tunic, but I found it to be a little snug in the arms. But keep in mind, I often run into tightness in this area. So if you sometimes find sleeves to be tight, you might want to steer clear of this tunic. Otherwise, I think it’s lovely and fits true to size.
The tunic, shown below in white, is made of 61% cotton, 34% polyester and 5% spandex woven for a crisp, cool feel but ample stretch. It’s designed fuller in the top and narrowing toward the hips. But I find it plenty wide at the hips, and mine are a little wide.
These tunic neck poplin tops are definitely trending this spring, at least in stores like J.Jill, Chico’s (and here), Talbots, Madewell, Everlane and J.Crew. And I’m loving them. Wear them untucked over slim fitting jeans or pants. Or give them a gentle front tuck and add a belt.
Cotton-Stretch Stepped-Hem Tunic // Similarly, this tunic fits true to size, but is snugger in the forearms than I would prefer. I guess this isn’t really part of the spring line, but I picked it up, probably because I’m majorly crushing on white cotton poplin shirts these days. So this shirt is actually marked down considerably, and appears to still be fully stocked.
Cotton-Stretch Cargo Pants // Above and below I’m wearing these Cotton-Stretch Cargo Pants in my usual (for J.Jill) size 8. They fit true to size, but they fit slimmer on me (as pants often do) than on the model on the website. Still, I think these are great pants. They’re a casual and current option to the usual jeans and come in this light olive grove, light chablis (pink) and light pebble (cream).
The Cotton-Stretch Cargo Pants feature cargo pockets on the sides, but they don’t bulge open. They’re 98% cotton and 2% spandex for a nice stretch. And remember, you can get them for 30% off right now.
Tencel™ Indigo Buttoned-Back Shirt // I don’t know why this shirt is so wrinkled. I’m wearing my usual (for J.Jill) size small and I think I’d need the medium. The problem is I’m afraid a medium in a tunic like this would look too large. Alas, I didn’t have time to find out. But just consider sizing up if you’re interested in this ultra soft Tencel™ Indigo Buttoned-Back Shirt.
One more thing about this top. I didn’t like the way it was left unfinished inside the collar. So honestly, I don’t recommend it if that kind of thing bothers you.
In the photo above, I’m wearing the Cotton-Stretch Cargo Pants again, but this time in the light pebble. This shade is actually a little pink-y. I prefer to wear close fitting pants like these in darker shades, like the olive green above, rather than in these pale shades. But that’s just me. And remember, you can get them for 30% off right now.
Pintucked Lace-Sleeve Top // I’m wearing a small in the bisque in this Pintucked Lace-Sleeve Top and it fits well. See why I say I normally wear a small in tops at J.Jill? I guess the button up shirts just fit me differently. This is a sweet top to wear with jeans or cargo pants, and it also comes in a dark rose and shale brown.
Essential Cotton-Stretch Pants // While my usual size 8 fits true to size in the waist and hips in these Essential Cotton-Stretch Pants, they fit to close to the leg on me. But I do have rather thick (I like to think muscular) legs. So if you’re legs are thinner, these are great pants. Truly. They come in a variety of shades and plaids and are a trending length. And remember, you can get them for 30% off right now.
Textured A-Line Sweater Tunic // I’m wearing a small in this Textured A-Line Sweater Tunic in oatmeal. It’s also available in rose and caraway green. It’s made of a fairly lightweight 55% cotton and 45% acrylic yarn. It’s a pretty option if you’re in a climate where you’re still wearing the occasional sweater in the spring and summer.
Jenna Belted Full-Leg Crops // I’m wearing these wide leg crop pants in my usual medium and they fit nicely. These are the barley multi, but I think I’d prefer the everyday blue multi stripe. They would be more slimming. The Jenna Belted Full-Leg Crops also come in several solid shades. They’re a lightweight linen blend.
My only problem with these pants was that the detachable belt won’t stay cinched, so I would probably recommend replacing it with a different belt. That seems like construction flaw to me, and I don’t like paying for those. But if you have a belt you’d easily wear instead of the self-belt, these are nice, versatile pants. And remember, you can get them for 30% off right now.
Luxe Supima® V-Neck Easy Tee // This ultra soft v-neck tee comes in several pretty shades and one print. I’m wearing a small and it fits nicely. It’s constructed from 55% Supima® cotton, 39% modal rayon and 6% spandex knit. The tee features short sleeves cut at an angle that is flattering for fuller arms.
Linen Ruffled-Hemline Dress // I love this pretty linen dress. I’m wearing a small and it fits nicely. I’ve made the mistake of buying J.Jill’s linen dresses before in a medium and then never wearing them because they were just too big. A key to wearing anything that is intentionally “oversized” is to select a size that really fits your shoulders and silhouette well. The dress is also available in a solid apricot orange and cornflower blue. But I love this light caraway fresh bloom floral.
Well, there you have it! J.Jill’s spring line definitely features pretty colors. I’m not sure I did a great job of putting together tops and pants in colors I like together. Some of these looks are a little oatmeal-ish. But if you look through the J.Jill website you’ll actually find more colors to choose from than are available in the stores.
Let me know if you have any questions. And thank you so much for dropping in today! I’m providing you a shopping widget with all of these pieces that I’ve shown here plus some others that I think are worth checking out. Remember, they don’t always have everything in the stores.
Oh, and don’t forget! You can get all of J.Jill’s pants for 30% off today.

Let’s not forget today that we are indeed women of influence. As we go about our daily tasks, not only do we have the opportunity to speak into people’s lives with words of encouragement, truth, grace and kindness, but we also often set the atmosphere of the room with just our countenance.
These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up. ~ Deuteronomy 6:6-7
Thanks for reviewing some JJill fashions!! I enjoy all of your reviews from classic stores, and also really like many things from JJill! I appreciate the reminder that the pants are on sale today! Unfortunately, I missed out on the recent 60%off on sale items earlier in the week!!
HI Sheri, I’m glad you enjoyed the post. It looks like you can still get an extra 50% off all sale styles: https://rstyle.me/+OQsXQ1c6c-EmZ-aP_H_SSw
Yay!!! That’s great news!! Thank you, Kay!!
Classy looks! Are you wearing a small in the stretch-cotton step-hem white tunic? How do you think it compares to the Talbots white tunic? Is one softer or less see-through? Thanks so much!
Hi Jena. Yes it’s a small but I might need a medium just for the sleeves. I definitely link the Talbots one better. It’s roomier and a little more comfortable in the shoulders for me.
Thanks so much, Kay! : )
I think the third from last look is so slimming on you! I love the monochromatic look and the tunic over the close fitting pants is a great fit! Thanks for sharing and commenting on what you like and don’t like. It helps us learn what to pay attention to when we are shopping.
