Late Winter Sleepwear Refresh

So how are you sleeping these days? Or should I say, how are you sleeping these nights? Sleep is so important, isn’t it? And it can be so frustrating when sleep eludes us. Sleep is necessary for sharp thinking, healing, weight loss, mood regulation and general alertness, of course. And I can definitely tell when I’m not getting enough sleep. While it won’t solve all of your sleep problems anymore than counting sheep, I do think a fresh pair of pajamas or a pretty but comfortable gown can help you rest a little more easily. So today I’m sharing some great options for a late winter sleepwear refresh.

Sleepwear Refresh
pink whale pocket tee // I Heart Whales lounge pants // similar UGG slippers (more economical option) // earrings // Fitbit // Fitbit band

I picked up these I Heart Whales lounge pants at Vineyard Vines recently. They’re on sale, but they’re also selling out in several sizes. But these stretch cotton flannel PJ pants are definitely cozy and so fresh. I appreciate the ample leg room, the wide elasticized waist band and the true drawstring.

Whale Long Sleeve Pocket Tee

And this pretty pink whale pocket tee, also from Vineyard Vines and marked down, doubles as a lounge tee or sleep shirt. I’m wearing a size medium in both. And I can’t decide if I like these separates better for lounging around the house on Sunday afternoons or sleeping. Hmm. Who says they can’t pull double duty?

Winter Pajama Refresh

Yeah, so my tee says, “Happy Valentine’s Day” on the back. Hahaha! But who’s going to see that…other than my everyday Valentine?

My tips for getting the best night’s sleep:

  • Lower the thermostat to a cooler temperature when you retire for the night. We set ours at 61 degrees Fahrenheit in the winter.
  • Drink lots of water during the day, but stop drinking at least an hour and a half before getting in bed.
  • Put aside all electronic devices an hour before sleep time. While I do personally read books on my phone, I like to opt for a “real” book at night if I really appreciate my sleep.
  • Use an app like Calm or, my preference, Abide to access soothing adult bedtime stories. They turn off automatically after a set amount of time.
  • Create a bedtime routine and stick with it. I make the coffee for the morning, take my vitamins, wash my face, brush my teeth and then settle into bed to read for about 30 minutes. If I follow my routine, I sleep easily and restfully.

I know we all have different preferences when it comes to sleepwear, so I found some other options for you, too. I love Soma’s Cool Nights collection. They keep you cozy and feel so soft, but they also help regulate your body temperature. They were a life saver when I was having night sweats for a while.

But during this cold winter I’ve really been enjoying the warmth of my L.L.Bean Camp PJ Set. The carbon navy set I have is sold out except for in one petite size I believe. But I absolutely love the shell pink set, too. And L.L. Bean also has some pretty springtime sleep sets with short sleeve tees and cotton pants.

Blessed for My Day

Are you living in despair? Or do you have hope? It’s a fine line that becomes an ever-widening gulf unless we choose to lay hold of hope. To despair is to turn your back on God. We despair when we no longer see Him in the picture. We refuse to see His finger prints on the past, we believe He has abandoned us in the present and we can’t imagine a future with Him in it. That’s what it means to despair. And I’ve noticed that unless we are vigilant, our hearts will default to despair in the darkest moments of life.

But we can choose to climb out of despair and into the warming rays of hope. We choose hope when we honestly share our emotions of loss and grief with God, but then choose to focus on His character instead. We also choose hope when we look in close and acknowledge that God is there, has been there and will be there…even if we have not been able to see Him. And we live with hope when we choose to believe that God is enough…even when our hearts may cry out for more. Today let’s choose hope.

Remember my affliction and my wanderings,
    the wormwood and the gall!
My soul continually remembers it
and is bowed down within me.
But this I call to mind,
    and therefore I have hope:

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
    his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
    great is your faithfulness.
“The Lord is my portion,” says my soul,
“therefore I will hope in him.” ~ Lamentations 3:19-24

xoxo, Kay

  1. I just found you, but everyday since you have informed, encouraged, and gotten me excited about things I can and should do for myself! 😁
Today you blessed me with a sweet devotion! God is good!

    1. Hi Debra. Thanks so much for letting me know. We all need a little encouragement. I know I do. I’m glad I can provide some for you. 🥰

  2. Love the daily emails. Wonder if you have suggestions for similar blogs re weight loss for “older “ women. I’m moving much more but losing no weight. Want to wear those pretty clothes. Thanks😃

  3. When I got L.L. Bean organic gowns, my rest became perfect. Organic made such a difference in my under shirts, also.

  4. Vary cute PJs! You mentioned that you had night sweats in the past and it occurred to me that mine have stopped too, since I started FWTFL. I had not realized that so I guess until you mentioned your night sweats. I owe you a thank you for giving me that final push to join and start taking care of my health! The new client experience was great.

  5. Love the pj’s. I think I would wear them for sleep and lounging. Look so comfortable.
Thanks for the bible verse. Sometimes we do despair. Worry, and we should give it
    to God.

  6. I went on the web site and watched the video that you referenced for D Batts.
Gave a lot of good tips, that I have heard before, but was a good reminder of
how we should dress for women over 50 and for a lady that is shorter. I am
only 5’3″ and have to watch for pant lengths, etc. I cannot wear petites because
I am long waisted and they do not fit me right. Thanks, Kay

  7. These pajamas look so cute on you! If you ever run across pajamas that are NOT made in China, please shout it from the rooftops! I can’t tell you how challenging my goal of not purchasing products made in Communist countries has been, especially pajamas! Sadly, even the LLBean camp set is.

    1. I’ll gladly do that. However, I don’t necessarily feel the same way about doing business with China. While I’d like to see more manufacturing businesses succeed in the US for sure. I also know that the people in China. Need work and incomes, too. Their government is communist. But the people working in those factories are just people…blue collar workers trying to feed their families.

  8. What pretty pajamas you have on, Kay! You know, I cringe when I see pajama sets over $40, but it just dawned on me that just like my regular clothes, we get what we pay for. I think it’s time to replace one of lower cost sets with a better one, that will hold up longer and look nicer for a longer period of time. Thank you for including a link to your Fitbit! Hopefully my sweet husband will not frown at my desire to purchase one. And the BFMD is spot on! We do not use our central heat because we like for our bedroom to stay cooler for sleeping. We have a gas fireplace/heater that we use to keep our family room, kitchen, and front bath comfortable, in the 60’s. I hope you are staying warm!

  9. I don’t know how any one can be comfortable with house temperature set in the 60’s. We set ours at 72. Your devotionals are spot on enjoy them so much. Bless you Kay.

    1. Hahaha! Well we’re definitely all wired differently. 😉 That’s why I just told you what ours is set at…not that I’m suggesting you do the same. However, studies have shown that most people sleep best with temperatures of 68 degrees and below. But I get it. My parents have theirs set higher than ours, too.

      1. I think it has a lot to do with the house, too. Don’t you? In this tiny house we’re renting we are burning up in the winter when the temperature gets above 69. Go figure!

        1. Yes, definitely has to do with the house! We have high ceilings and tile floors except in bedrooms. Plus, my husband is always cold! -6 degrees in NE Texas snowmaggedon this week.

      1. Congratulations on the house! I hope all goes smoothly for James and you! Thank you for doing what you do and providing the forum on fb. Although, I have only been following for a week or so I already feel more joyful and grateful as I start my day looking at women put themselves out there and dressing for their day. I love you and their inspiration. I also love that I have the opportunity to start my day giving wonderful women positive and loving comments. Such a gift you have given me Kay! Thank you. With much gratitude, Bonnie

  10. Purchased the Soma PJs this morning. Tired of wandering around in my old worn out flannels. Our thermostat is set on a constant 60 degrees. As long as I am moving it is the perfect temp. When I get chilly it is a reminder to get up and move.

  11. I really like this color of pink a lot. In the winter I put being warm over everything else. Flannel of yesteryear was thick and warm. Today’s fabric is so thin. Sometimes you have to wear a cami under the top….of flannel!

  12. I am so glad I randomly found you just this weekend!!! I can not tell you what a gift you have been to me. Once again the seasonal Depression I struggle with has caught me off guard and I realized that I there that my work scrubs the only clothes I have worn for the past month was baggy, sad sweat pants and old saggy t-shirts with no bra!!! But each day this week I have gotten up, Put On Makeup, washed and styled my hair and shopped my closet to style a “classic outfit with a modern twist”! I have felt wonderful!!! I even went and got my haircut yesterday for the first time since October. Thank you for your kind gentle nudge to get up and “dress for my day”
    💗

    1. 🙌🏻 This is super!!! Thanks so much for sharing. I’m so very happy for you. It’s amazing how just a few little changes can make such an impact to our overall well-being. And I’m thankful to play a small part in it. Because that’s all it is – a small part. You’re the one making the real changes. Good for you! 🙌🏻

  13. Your definitely a woman who radiates beauty inside and out. You look so put together no matter what you wear. I hope to achieve that. I’m grateful for being led to you and look forward to your posts, dress suggestions and blessings.
