Hello gals! We’re half way through the week, and I hope yours is going well. I received a Trunk Club trunk yesterday and it’s one of the very best ones I’ve gotten. It’s full of beautiful dresses, fresh shorts and tops. You’re going to love these items! So let’s get to my May Trunk Club try-on session.
What is Trunk Club?
If you haven’t tried Trunk Club, it is a personal styling service for both men and women. It is a subsidiary of Nordstrom, so the clothing all comes from there. In fact, if you have a Nordstrom credit card, the $25 styling fee is waived. However, if you do have to pay the styling fee, it is applied toward your purchases.
When you enroll in Trunk Club, you get to communicate with your personal stylist as much as you’d like, so I suggest you take advantage of that. In fact, create a Pinterest board with your fashion preferences and make that available to her. You can ask for particular types of items or themed trunks. For instance, this month I asked Shelly for a trunk with spring dresses, shorts and tops. She added a few other items to round out the looks she created for me.
Trunk Club makes it so easy to try new fashions that you might not would take into a fitting room yourself. The shipping is free both ways, and you have plenty of time to try on and review all the pieces you receive before returning or purchasing. Of all the new services and shopping experiences I’ve tried since starting this style blog, Trunk Club is my favorite and the one I recommend with the highest confidence.
Now, let’s see what I got in this month’s Trunk Club trunk!
Fresh & Fun Shorts & Tops
First up, Shelly sent me some great denim shorts. Of course, I just featured some denim shorts with a shorter inseam in Monday’s post and I already own some similar to these, so I didn’t end up keeping them. But these are definitely some of the most comfortable shorts I’ve ever put on my body. If I didn’t already own three pairs I would have kept these in a heartbeat!
These shorts also come in other washes and lengths. You might want to check out these if you’d like a softer wash and a little shorter length, but still very modest and appropriate.
Shelly sent me this ultra feminine tiered hem linen tee to pair with the denim shorts. I’m wearing a small and waffled back and forth about returning for the medium. But in the end, I decided this top fits nicely. I’m in love!
The tee is a 100% linen with a rayon hemline, so it does need to be handwashed and line dried. But for this sweet tee, I’m willing to do that.
Next I tried on these cute drawstring shorts with a pale misty orchid embroidered t-shirt. Both of these items are amazingly soft and comfortable. Oh, and she sent me these Wayfarer II 55mm Sunglasses from Ray-Ban to try, too. Cool.
I’m wearing a small in the t-shirt, so definitely go with the smaller of your two normal sizes. And in the shorts I’m wearing a medium. So I guess they’re pretty true to size. By the way, the shorts are also available in a pretty coral, navy, black and a purple and white stripe.
At this point I also slipped on the rose gold filigree bracelet from Kendra Scott. I love these adjustable bracelets. They’re fun to stack and look casual and chic.
Shelly sent me one more shorts combo. This one is especially suitable for a little dressier occasions, maybe a summer date night or even a cruise.
I was surprised how much I like these navy tie waist shorts. They’re actually very comfortable, run true to size (I’m wearing an 8) and flatter the figure. You’d definitely want to tuck in your shirt with these shorts. And because they flare out, I’d suggest you go with a top that fits fairly close to the body. This baby doll top works well and is, once again, extremely soft and easy to wear. I’m wearing a small, so it’s true to size. Oh, and the top comes in almost a dozen great colors.
The shorts are available in navy and a golden khaki.
Shelly also sent me these nude colored block heel sandals to try. I have to tell you, these are a little pricey, but they are some of the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever put on my feet. No joke. No exaggeration. However, the ankle strap is a little snug on my thick ankles. Ahem. So I’m not keeping them. But, oh, I wish I could.
These sandals are also available in black. And if you have smaller ankles, I definitely recommend trying them. These sandals would work perfectly with dressy shorts, like the ones above, skirts, pants and dresses.
Summer Dresses
Shelly sent me some beautiful summer dresses in my Trunk Club trunk. First, up a striped jacquard dress by Vince Camuto that feels like a dream. AND it’s currently marked down 25%. I’m wearing an 8, so it’s true to size.
This sweet polyester/spandex dress is full lined and feels lightweight and soft on the body. It has a hidden back zip closure. What you can’t see in the photo above is that the dress features a gold thread that runs through the design as well. So this is an elegant, but also fun dress.
The dress is fast selling out, but is also available at Dillard’s in the coral and in a pretty yellow. It’s not marked down at Dillard’s, but they might do a price match if you check.
I definitely would have kept this dress if I had a special occasion to wear it. But even my church is very casual. I think this dress would even be great for traveling or for a cruise.
By the way, these are different sunglasses that I’m sharing here. Much less expensive!! I actually love these black cat eye sunglasses, but I’d prefer them in either the tortoise or the white and rose gold they come in.
Next up, a lovely floral print charmeuse midi dress by Maggy London. Oh, if I just had a summer wedding to attend!!
I don’t think photos really do this dress justice. In fact, I wouldn’t have ordered it for myself. But on and in person, this dress looks luxurious, current and oh so feminine. I’m wearing an 8, so it’s true to size.
This 97% polyester dress is machine washable and needs to be line dried. It features a sweet handkerchief hem, a jewel neck and a fitted waist. Trust me, I tried and tried to come up with an event to wear this dress to, but I just don’t have one. If you do…it’s a winner.
I was fully prepared not to like this body con twist front dress, but I love it. This sleeveless knit dress features an asymmetrical hem and a gathered waist for a very flattering, feminine fit. It comes in black and dark grey.
I’m wearing a small, but I think I might fare better with a medium in this dress. Once again, I think this dress would be perfect for travel and would chic, cool and appropriate on a cruise ship. But you could also wear it for a fun date night or special evening out.
Last up, this sweet soft ecru sleeveless tie neck shift dress. That’s a mouthful for such a simple dress!
This dress is also available in “caviar,” which I’m assuming is black. It’s hard to tell from the photo on the website. This fully lined shift dress looks so feminine and lovely. I never would have chosen it for myself, but I’m so glad I tried it on. Just beautiful!
Once again, I’d need a special occasion (other than a wedding, of course!) to wear this dress to. It would be lovely for a special vacation dress or a summer concert. And the “caviar” color would work splendidly for a summer wedding. Here I’ve styled it with my nude pumps, leopard print clutch and cat eye sun glasses.

Blessed for My Day
Do you feel pretty today? I’ll confess, many days I don’t feel oh so pretty. But feelings, while they are real, are not always accurate. Sometimes we need to remind ourselves the truth instead of leaning too hard on our feelings.
The truth is that you are wonderfully made. You are beautifully unique, awe inspiring and wonderful to behold. But we can also choose to enhance our natural beauty so that we shine with confidence and assurance. And I believe that’s what our Creator would prefer for us…to radiate His creativity and glory.
For You formed my inward parts; You wove me in my mother’s womb. I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, And my soul knows it very well. ~ Psalm 139:13-14
Wow Kay, you did get a great trunk this month. I have the linen top in your first photo. I loved it so much I bought two more colors! I do machine wash mine but line dry and with a touch of the iron or steamer it looks brand new again. That last dress is also a stunner?. My style exactly! Have a great day. After two days of heavy rain in my neck of the woods, the sun is shining and all is beautiful again?
Thanks for letting me know about your experience with the shirt. That’s promising! I hope you have a beautiful, sunny day! ?
The floral dress looks fantastic on you! I receive Trunk Club too and love it. You’re right about clothes you never would pick for yourself and turn out to giving you a whole new look. It’s been an eye opener. I also know you can’t keep everything! In the widget that you have Sales Alert, I’m wondering how accurate those are. I wanted to find out when one of the Talbots bag went on sale and it notified me yesterday it was on sale but when I went to Talbots web site, it’s not. Have you heard about that before?? BtW, I love your Blog. You are very thorough (like showing us up close the gold threads in striped dress). Those types of thing are very helpful.
Hi Kandy. I’m glad you are enjoying the blog. That’s odd about the sale alert. They’re usually pretty accurate. It may have just been a delayed response. Talbots had a one day flash sale on Monday or Sunday, can’t remember which. I find the alerts are usually pretty accurate.
Thanks Kay for getting back so soon! It was first time I had used the Sales Alert. So good to know they are usually accurate. I’ll call store next time.
Kay, You did receive some wonderful things to try on. The floral dress is gorgeous. You are so right about wearing more fitted tops with shorts and pants that have a paper bag waist. I recently learned that myself by looking in the mirror and reading that suggestion from @Jo-Lynne Shane. This is our 2nd day of very nice and cool morning temps, sun, and a tolerable high. The 90’s are on their way, but we are hoping the GA humidity will be low. I hope you have a blessed day!
Ooh La La Kay………..the black dress looks stunning on you, watch out James. The floral is gorgeous. You wear all of these well. ~Lisa~
The shift dress is elegant! Looks great on you!
What a great idea! I’ll have to check it out, and if I decide on it, I’ll sign up through your link. All of those dresses are gorgeous! Someone needs to get married so you can wear one! LOL!
xo, Lisa

Hi, Kay. I’m relatively new to your post…love it! Your devotionals are timely and spot on. When showing dresses, especially shifts, it would be great if you could show what the dress looks like when you are sitting down. Shift dresses always ride up and no matter how tightly I keep my knees together when sitting, it seems like…”I see London, I see France, I see someone’s….”
Hahaha! I’ll see what I can do. ? Glad to have you at Dressed for My Day! Thanks for introducing yourself. ?
Thank you .
