February 3, 2020

Welcome to Dressed for My Day! Can you believe it’s February already??? January is usually such a long month, but this year it flew right on by. In fact, it went by so quickly I never even managed to post my December Favorites. Uh oh! So I don’t want to miss this opportunity to share my January Favorites with you today.

My January 2020 Favorites

Simply put, these are some of the fashion, beauty and lifestyle items I found myself reaching for frequently during the month of January. Many of them were January purchases, but others just saw lots of use that month. Let’s get started!

Grove Genuine Shearling Trim Slipper by UGG®

UGG slippers

I purchased these Ugg slippers because I needed something warm to wear around the house in the mornings and evenings, but also while I work. But I wanted shoes that I could also wear outside to bring in packages and take the dog out, even when there was a little ice or snow on the ground. These warm genuine shearling trim slippers fit the bill and I absolutely love wearing them. I wear a 9.5 usually, so I sized up 1/2 size to the 10 and they work perfectly. And they’re 30% off right now.

Linea Paolo Felicia Wedge Bootie

sneaker wedge booties

I fell in love with these Linea Paolo Felicia Wedge Booties the minute I first saw them, but I ruled them out for myself. I figured I wasn’t hip enough to wear them, for starters. But also I don’t wear heels a lot, especially for athleisure. But I was wrong on both accounts. I don’t have to be cool enough for these booties; they make me look cooler than I am! And these are some of the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever owned. I honestly don’t think about them being high heels when I’m wearing them.

My athleisure booties run true to size and come in lots of other prints and colors. These three light shade booties are the same brand, but are marked down 33%. They’d be great for spring.

1901 Stretch Cotton Twill Blazer

Red Blazer

I already had this 1901 Stretch Cotton Twill Blazer in black and I wear it probably weekly…year round! So it really wasn’t a stretch at all for me to buy it in the red chinoise when it was reduced last month for just about a week. Honestly, I guess I haven’t worn it that much yet, but I think it made the favorites list because I think about wearing it so much. Ha! I think about this blazer all. the. time. You’re going to be seeing it styled so many ways this spring. But I did wear it in this post, and you gals seemed to really like it. I did, too.

Warm Casual Friday Work Look
See this post.

This blazer is going to rock white jeans, khaki chinos, black athleisure pants and every wash of blue denim. It runs true to size or maybe a touch large. I have an 8 in both jackets, and I usually wear a 10 in a blazer. Remember, it’s made of cotton twill, but it has a nice bit of stretch in it.

Marc Fisher Lukie Bootie

Marc Fisher Lukie Bootie

The Marc Fisher Lukie Bootie was originally offered at Nordstrom, but is now available at a more economical price at DSW, which is where I ordered from. I have several pairs of Marc Fisher shoes and booties, including these leopard print Chelsea booties, and they all fit and wear beautifully. So I didn’t hesitate to order these Lukie Booties when I needed something to style with straight leg ankle jeans. Sure enough, these booties are comfortable and chic, and they’re the perfect shoe to wear with straight leg ankle jeans in the fall and winter, but probably even into spring here.

Sock Booties

The Marc Fisher Lukie Bootie is also available in a pretty red and a black. They run true to size.

Halogen Cashmere Scarf in grey medium heather

cashmere scarf

I’ve been looping this pretty cashmere scarf around my neck almost every time I leave the house. It’s oh so soft and I love the grey. But it’s available in no fewer than a dozen equally pretty shades. By the way, it’s much longer than it looks in the photo on the Nordstrom website.

I’ve got the scarf doubled over in this photo.

This luxe scarf is marked down 50%.

Urban Decay Cosmetics All Nighter Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray

setting spray

I bought the Urban Decay Cosmetics All Nighter Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray because I was getting my heavy make-up all over my clothes during quick changes for photo session. Plus, I’d heard that this setting spray could actually make my makeup look fresher longer.

The spray delivered on both counts, but it also actually makes my makeup look better, too. It just gives the ever so slightest dewy sheen to my finished face. But it feels light; I never even know I have it on. I purchased the travel size to test it out, and I expect that to last me quite a while.

FASTer Way to Fat Loss App

FASTer Way to Fat Loss App

I just couldn’t help but give a shout-out to FASTer Way to Fat Loss for their new app. I’ve been participating in the FASTer Way lifestyle for two years now, but I cannot even begin to tell you the huge difference this app makes. Now I can access freshly recorded, daily workouts, weekly menus, recipes, and tons of fitness and nutrition information in one place. When I started the program two years ago NONE of that was available at all, but it was still effective.

This app, along with the Facebook community I participate in, is really keeping me focused on my nutrition and fitness goals for the year. You can also use the app in place of a Facebook group if you’re not on social media. If you have questions about FASTer Way to Fat Loss, please let me know. I don’t push a lot of things here on Dressed for My Day. But this is one program that I believe so very strongly in. It’s hands down the most comprehensive, balanced and effective total fitness program I’ve ever encountered. And they are starting a brand new introductory round TODAY.

Athleta Wander Stash Skinny Pant

commuter pants

I purchased the Athleta Wander Stash Skinny Pant because I wanted some pants that were comfortable, athleisure quality but also sharp enough to wear out and about. These are in constant rotation in my work-from-home wardrobe, but I also love traveling in them.

See this post.

The Athleta Wander Stash Skinny Pant is also available in cliff hanger (beige) and mountain olive (green), and those shades are actually reduced in price. They run true to size; I wear an 8 regular. The pants also come in petite and tall sizes.

Kendra Scott Inez Gold Long Pendant Necklace In Brown Tigers Eye

necklace

I love this Inez Gold Long Pendant Necklace so much that I bought it again when I lost my first one. Some lucky person probably found my original pendant in the Nordstrom fitting room. That’s the last place I remember wearing it. But when I returned to the store and they didn’t have it in their lost-and-found, I just decided to order another.

Sock Bootie

This pendant necklace just pairs so nicely with so many of my favorite fall and winter pieces. It’s a nice weight and quality, too. And best of all, it’s 50% off the original price.

Mellanni Bed Sheet Set Brushed Microfiber 1800 Bedding

When I included the Mellanni Bed Sheet Set in my Valentine’s Gift Guide, I decided to order myself a set. I’d heard other bloggers go on and on about them enough that I had finally decided to order them. You know, sheets are one of life’s biggest disappointments for me. It seems no matter how well I read the labels or feel the swatches, they never turn out to be nearly as soft and cool and well-made as touted.

sheets

But these sheets did not disappoint. They truly are some of the softest, coolest and nicest quality sheets I’ve ever encountered. When I took them out of the package I was immediately impressed. But I wanted to wash them before using, so I was skeptical they’d do as well after going through the washer and dryer. Wrong! They came out of the dryer with no wrinkles and feeling just as soft as ever. A-maze-ing!!! My daughter has since ordered her own and she loves them, too. Buy. These. Sheets. The price is crazy good. Buy a set for every bed. Buy two sets for every bed. Okay. Moving on.

Talbots Flare Jeans – Blake Wash

Flare Jeans

Honestly, I have more jeans than any woman needs. But as a style blogger the one piece I feel like I need a very wide variety of in order to serve my readers well is denim. I like to have a full range of brands and styles so that I can show you different outfits with the denim you like to wear.

Styling High Waist Flare Leg Jeans
See this post.

So that’s why I wanted to try these lighter wash, high waist, flare leg jeans with the wide hem. I really didn’t expect to like them, but I’m crazy for them. They’re comfortable and such a nice switch up from all the skinnies. I will say these jeans run smaller than most of Talbots’ jeans do. So definitely go up a size from your normal denim size with Talbots. I have mine in a size 8 and they’re definitely a snug fit. You can get 25% off with code STYLE25.

Blessed for My Day

Do you ever feel short-changed? Maybe you look around and others seem to have had it easier. Or they have more or better. Then again, maybe you sometimes feel like you’ve gotten more than your share of sorrow and hardship. Look, you don’t have to act like you’ve never felt that way. We’ve all had moments when we’ve felt a little overlooked and forgotten by God.

But hopefully you’ve also snapped out of it! Sister, I’m here to tell you today that your God loves you wildly. He has good things planned for you this very day. Everything may not come easily and some of life’s greatest treasures may first appear in the wrappings of trouble and pain. But you can trust that God is working even the difficulties of the day into treasures of great gain for you. He is cultivating in your something of great value. Trust Him. You just may be amazed.

But, as it is written, “What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him” ~ 1 Corinthians 2:9

  1. Great finds today Kay. I do you have a fitness question and that is how to tone the fat around your knees? I am on a very limited budget so purchasing a fitness plan online or one outside the home is not in my budget at this time. Any suggestions would greatly help. Thank you. ~Lisa~

    1. I get all my fitness routines from Pinterest (often with links to youtube). I cannot budget in purchasing fitness routines/plans either, and I have found great plans/routines on line for free. I try to look for ones that feature more mature women (I don’t need to try to copy a 20 something, size 0 woman; that is not an incentive for me, just frustration haha!)

  2. I am going to try the sheets you recommend. You are right – so hard to find sheets that live up to their hype. Thank you for the suggestion and link.

  3. Kay, This was a great post! I really like the commuter pants and I am very interested in the sheets. You are right, the price is excellent, even for the king, that I need for our Sleep Number. If you are flying to FL, you might want to keep an eye on the forecast because it’s looking like AL, GA, FL, and the Carolinas could have severe weather starting on Wednesday. Have a blessed day!

  4. Suggestions for upcoming posts: Definitions of fashion and style terms. For example, “Surplice.” Show various styles and “looks,” how to style this look, what face and body type might best be served wearing this style, and so on. Show a before and after pose where the weaker look takes on a polished vibe with just a few adjustments. Drop shoulder, bat wings, bishop sleeves, dolmen, and raglan, are but a few other terms that could be addressed. As well, some posts on how fashion jewelry, including statement and even vintage pieces, can change the dynamics of an outfit; here again, before and after pictures are most helpful.

  5. These are all great picks. I’m loving your athleisure outfit, such a perfect look to go to yoga class, and stop for groceries afterwards, I think! I have a similar colored top and totally loving that color! The red blazer looks gorgeous as well, although I don’t wear blazers but such a gorgeous shade of red! And I may need to get that cashmere scarf as well!
    Thanks for sharing!

  6. I would like to know how to dress a turkey neck. I aam getting sag and my usual necklaces and scarves just don’t work anymore. They emphasize it. I wear v necks, avoid anything tight around the neck. I’m 77 with few wrinkles but I got a saggy neck. I’d trade for wrinkles. : )

  7. Kay,
I have a question about patent leather shoes! I bought some really comfortable SAS croc patent loafers. However, I have not worn them out. Every time I put them on, I feel like they are too shiny. Is patent leather stylish at all for 2020?
