Nordstrom opened the Preview for their 2021 Anniversary Sale yesterday, and I spent more time perusing it than any sane person should. Then again, that’s part of my job here at Dressed for My Day. I don’t cover this sale because of the hoopla. I cover it each year because it’s fun to get a peek at the upcoming fall fashions, the sale is a great opportunity to shop for fresh styles for the coming season and I know so many of my readers shop the sale, too. So if you’ve clicked through to this post I assume that you’re one of those Nordstrom Anniversary Sale shoppers or at least you’re curious. Let’s check out my #NSale 2021 initial picks!
My Initial Impressions
As I first started scrolling through the thousands and thousands of offerings in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, I was a little perplexed. It seemed like so many of the items were in the sale in previous seasons and, in fact, quite a few of them were available right now (although not at the discounted prices). But the further I scrolled, the more I became impressed with this year’s #NSale. In fact, I’m really excited about what I saw. There are soooo many more products in the sale again this year than there were in last year’s pandemic sale. And we’re seeing new brands, too.
We do indeed get a glimpse at what will be trending – for instance, chunky soles on loafers and boots, button up cardigans, plaid blazers and coats, oversized shirt jackets, and wider leg joggers. Granted, I’m on board with some of these trends and hesitant about others, but I’m just happy to see how they’re playing out in accessible fashion. So even if you’re not shopping the Anniversary Sale you might want to peruse the listings just to see a little bit of what we’ll be seeing in the fall.
But I also saw lots of closet staples in multiple iterations and available in a variety of price points. For instance, I’m scouting out black knit skirts to add to my wardrobe. Well, I’m just looking for one. But I found these four in a full range of prices and I’ll probably order all four to compare and contrast. Remember, Nordstrom offers free shipping and free returns, unlimited and no minimum.
I also love, love, love the selection of dresses I saw in the preview. There are several beautiful options for fall weddings, especially for us women over 50. And I also found dresses that would be lovely for everyday or the office. They are modern, but also constructed in ways that work for our bodies. Here are a few of my favorites.
And that’s just a portion of the ones I like. So if you’re looking for a dress for the fall or even transitioning into fall, I think you may find something you like in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. You can find all the dresses in the sale HERE.
I’m using the sale to stock up on closet essentials that I realized were missing last fall and winter. For instance, I have these Nordstrom brand long sleeve layering tees in all three colors and wore them a lot last winter. I highly recommend them for a close-to-the-body fit that isn’t snug or binding, but perfect for layering under sweaters or other clothing. But this year I’m planning to purchase the similar layering tanks. They’re also available in short sleeves. These are not inexpensive layering shirts, but the #NSale price is good. And I don’t remember seeing them go down again last year until maybe the end of the season.
I was not quite as pleased with the selection of shoes or handbags as I would have hoped. But sometimes those grow on me through the sale. Maybe I’m not really in the mood for shopping booties and heavy bags during the summer. Ha! But I’m including a few of the ones I like in the shopping widget below.
I do love the selection of coats this year. There’s something for every kind of situation you’d have, including rain coats, trenches, parkas, wool overcoats, field coats, car coats, etc. I have purchased almost all of my coats in previous Nordstrom Anniversary Sales, and get lots of compliments on them. But they sell out. So if you’re considering adding a plaid or colorful or specialized coat to your wardrobe, don’t hesitate. Here are a few of my favorites.
There really are so many others I could show you. And I will! I’ll be creating Favorites posts for many of your favorite categories, such as coats, handbags, shoes, sweaters, home gifts, and sleep and loungewear. I’ll also produce posts on various price points, like best under $100, $50 and even $25.
And you can find all of my Nordstrom Anniversary Sale coverage through the top menu of my website throughout the sale. If you’re reading on a phone or tablet, click the MENU and NSale will be in the list of options. On your computer, you’ll find #NSale in the top bar. Keep in mind that previous years’ sale coverage is under that tab, too. So make sure you’re reading the most currents posts.
Don’t worry, I won’t be posting exclusively about the Nordstrom Sale for the next few weeks. In fact, most of the time that I publish NSale posts, I’ll also post something else, too (but not always). So stay with me even if you’re not shopping the sale.
My Initial Top Picks
Okay, let’s wrap this up with some of my top picks from the sale. I picked these thinking about me and about you. So some of these are things I’m really considering adding to my own wardrobe, while others are items I want to share with my readers because a) many of you ask me about these very things or b) I have them already and love them. Finally, I’ve got some splurge items in the widget, too, because a girl can dream…
Also, you’ll find lots of items in my initial picks that I already have and will be replenishing myself, like my Lancome Definicils Mascara, my Adidas Edge Lux 4 running shoes and Bomba socks. I’ve even included notes in the widget sharing why I like the products. And remember, lots of the sweaters, shoes and handbags, etc., come in other colors or patterns. Oh, and one more thing, the SALE PRICE are NOT SHOWING. So you’ll have to click through if you want to see what the #NSale price will be. Below you’re seeing the prices the items will have after the sale.
Okay, I know that was a lot. Especially if you’re reading on a phone. Oh my! Not every post will include a huge shopping widget. Ha!
Don’t forget we all get to preview the sale up until the time we can join the sale. Here are the shopping dates again.
In tomorrow’s post I’ll be talking more about strategy for shopping, not just for this sale, but for your wardrobe. You’ll definitely want to tune in for that if you’re shopping the Anniversary Sale, but also if you’re adding anything at all to your wardrobe in the near future.
And if you haven’t read my post all about the NSale and how to prepare for it, you can read that now HERE. But even if you’re sitting the sale out or only shopping for a few items, you MUST check back with me tomorrow. I’m making a big announcement that everyone needs to be here for. Yay!!!
Have a great day, sweet friend. And don’t forget to check out today’s video if you haven’t already.

Do you ever sit in front of the television set, read the paper or scroll the Internet and wonder, “Is this true? What am I supposed to think about this? What should I do about this?” We live in uncertain times. And not only are the situations around us sometimes muddy and hard to navigate, but we don’t even know what or who to trust with information.
I’ve found that the best way to make decisions in this cloudy world is to seek the One who is the Light of the world. In His presence, with time and quiet and meditation on His Word, I eventually find my way. Then I can take a course of action or choose a plan based on the direction He has provided. And when I seek to walk in His will, He protects me as I go. That’s the best place to be.
As for God, his way is perfect: The Lord’s word is flawless; he shields all who take refuge in him. ~ Psalm 18:30
Hi Kaye, best NSale post!!! Love the widgets and comments. You saw items I just didn’t see. Re:mirror. Check out Rebel Poppy on Amazon. I used prime points and have been so happy with it, far more than the little ones you have to hunch over to try and see your face.
Hi Nancy. I’ll look into that. I’m glad you enjoyed the post. 😊
Amen!! Yes, only His way is perfect!! when we walk in His ways we are protected!!
Hi Kay,
I am on the look-out for a fall blazer–with cooler colors in plaid. Preferably with wool or wool blend. I did look yesterday at the #NSale and also saw some of those in your picks today from Nordstrom. I’m keeping those in mind. Some have already sold out of my size!???
Anyway, could you recommend any from other stores, like Talbots, etc? When do their fall blazers begin to show up? I need to replace my wool-blend blazer I had to give away due to loosing weight the last couple of years. ( a nice problem)
Thanks so much for what you do for all of us.
Hi Jane. I should have pointed out in the post that any notice of sellouts is wrong. These are either items that are available now at the regular price and that inventory has been depleted or they are just glitches in the system. But everything will be fully stocked when the sale actually begins. You can still add them to your wish list even if they say sold out, so definitely do they if you are interested. But yes, Talbots usually has several blazers in their fall collection and almost always a cool toned plaid one. I’ve gotten a couple of them in the past. And I will definitely be sharing those as they arrive on the scene. Their fall line usually comes out in August and September. I’ve already seen the August catalog and it is more transitional pieces but the September collection will have the fuller offering of fall clothing.
Great post. I saw a few items that I hadn’t thought about purchasing- until now. Thank you!
I’m looking for a camel car coat or something a little longer that buttons. I saw your camel pick one but it’s too long and wraps.
Love the funnel neck sweater for cooler weather and the Coach bag. Not crazy about the thick soled shoes. They do add height to us shorter women so that’s a plus. The far left black skirt shown is very nice with the small slit but needs a little higher hem (at the knee).
Thanks for your pre-sale research. You have found some really nice item’s and I appreciate the time you put into this!
Thank you for this, Kay. I need to make some time to really think through my wardrobe and what I want to communicate with my style. You’ve help me transform my outside to match my inside. Thank you
