Well, October just flew by while I was still looking at my September calendar! And this is a 31-day month!! Well, so that I can get my wits together before November, I thought I’d simply group together some of my favorite fashion and beauty finds from October today. These are items I either own and have used a lot in October or I’ve been eyeing them and finally just bit the bullet this weekend.
Let’s take a look at my October favorites, and then I’d love for you to share with me some of your own favorites from this month.
My October Favorites
Straight Cargo Pants in Camo – I was late to the camo party, but I’m having a blast with it now. I’ve found no fewer than half a dozen different ways to style these trending pants with items in my closet since writing this post about Styling Camo. And I really do think these from J.Crew are the best I’ve tried on. They stretch and move with you without gaping or stretching out. They’re available at Nordstrom, but, depending on the sale situations, they may be cheaper at J. Crew, which is where you can also buy the tall size I have.
Utility Jacket – The utility jacket I have has sold out, but I wear it at least several times a week. And I envision wearing it year-round as is appropriate. I’m wondering why I didn’t get one earlier. This one looks just as cute, functional and comfortable to me.
Michael Kors Large Scalloped Benning Leather Satchel in Truffle – I hesitated to add this super functional and classic bag simply because I know it’s pricey. But honestly, I use this versatile satchel almost every day. And I get so many compliments on it. It’s half price right now. But here’s what I did. I joined the Michael Kors VIP program and received an extra 25% off during their customer appreciation sale. So I suggest if you’re interested in these classic, well-made bags that you join the club, watch the emails and jump on the sales. Meanwhile, if you’re interested in a classic bag that you will use for years, this one’s the one to grab.
OPI Infinite Shine2 in Barefoot in Barcelona – I tried to buy a new fall shade of polish the other day. Fail. I went back to this longtime favorite. First of all, I’m a true OPI girl. I don’t wear anything else. But this shade is such a beautiful neutral for the fall. I imagine it’s what I’ll be wearing until Christmas!
Leather Reversible Belt-Gold/Coffee – I ordered this gold belt during the Talbots Friends & Family sale and I’m anxiously awaiting its arrival. I can’t tell you how many times I get dressed and think, “I wish I had a gold skinny belt to wear with this.” So even though I don’t have it in my possession yet, I know it’s already a favorite!
Ribbed Shawl Cocoon Sweater by LEITH – This is one of my Nordstrom Anniversary Sale purchases that I kept, and I’m glad I did. I have the tan etherea and I’ve gotton so much wear out of it already. It’s soft and beautiful. Mine is too large though, so I wish I had sized down. It’s available in so many beautiful colors, including this pink adobe.
Tassled Leopard Foldover Clutch – You know I’m enjoying all of my leopard print…and I have a lot! But this beautiful and classy clutch definitely ranks as one of the best buys. Even at full price it’s not extremely expensive. And, while it’s great to add to an all black outfit, it really can pair with most anything. Learn more about how to style leopard print here.
Your Lips But Better Waterproof Lip Liner Stain in Romantic Rose – Do you have some items for which you feel like you are just forever hunting for the perfect one? Lip liner has been one of those for me. I don’t want a lip liner for each tube of lipstick. I want one that works with most! And this creamy lip liner pencil in romantic rose does that for me. I’m loving it with most all of the lip colors I wear.
Long Metal Layering Necklace – If you’ve been hanging around Dressed for My Day long you knew I couldn’t do a favorites post without mentioning this layering necklace. I’m wearing it right now. Ha! This is the perfect necklace for so many things because it doesn’t steal the show, but it adds some light and sparkle around your face. It also comes in silver.
14K Gold Hoop Earrings – These are not the exact earrings I have. I’ve had mine for most of my adult life. But I’m getting more wear out of them now than I have in years. As I mentioned in this post, delicate fine jewelry is in. And selecting to wear “tiny” jewelry instead of large statement pieces is actually a way to look a little younger and more contemporary. So I’m enjoying wearing these again, and I thought I’d point you towards these that are on sale at Off Fifth. But I bet a lot of you gals have similar ones in the back of your jewelry box, too.
Blessed for My Day
Some emotions don’t feel so good, do they? I’ve felt very hurt and sad recently, and I don’t like those feelings. They make me want to run, hide, sleep, scream or sink. When our emotions feel to heavy for us to carry, many of us tend to turn to coping mechanisms. And some of those ways of coping are not healthy, productive or even safe.
Instead, we can carry our emotions to our heavenly Father. I’ve found that I can sit in His presence and tell Him how I feel, and He is good and faithful to listen and take some of the weight from my shoulders. He doesn’t necessarily heal the hurts or settle the frustrations right away, but He provides me an opportunity to feel the emotions in a safe place and to express myself freely. I’ve discovered that I usually have to feel all the feels before He can heal the wounds. There is no escaping the emotions. But with a tender loving God I don’t have to escape them. I can feel them, express them and then, eventually heal from them.
He heals the brokenhearted And binds up their wounds. ~ Psalm 147:3
