I’ve noticed that I wear a lot of red on Dressed for My Day. Fact is, I wear a lot of red in real life, too! So I thought it was time for me to share a new pairing. Today I’m featuring a fairly casual work look in navy and grey…with just a splash of red.
I don’t know that grey is my best color, but I do love it. And not only can you pair grey nicely with black, navy or red, but it actually also works with brown.
Navy is a classic basic. It’s actually a nice wardrobe basic color for the older woman because it works with our skin tone a little better than black. But I suggest you choose which basic color you’ll build your wardrobe around – black, navy or brown – and stick with it. Or you may pick two of those. Otherwise, you’ll need shoes in all three shades, and that’s when mixing and matching your wardrobe gets trickier.
My cords, which would probably need to be hemmed a little, are the Talbots high-rise straight-leg cords. They’re available in 11 other shades, including grey, and you can get them 30% off with code HOLIDAY.
My cashmere sweater is an old one – probably 8+ years. But I’m linking to several similar sweaters in the shopping widget below. I especially like this one from Neiman Marcus, which is now 1/2 price.
My ring, bracelet and necklace are all from James Avery. And my handbag is the scalloped large Benning satchel. It’s no longer available, but the regular large Benning satchel is available at Michael Kors for 55% off. My earrings are Brighton.
This ribbed marled scarf from Target brings this combination together nicely. If you’re interested in it, shop through this link because I can’t get it to show up in the shopping widget below. Remember, you can order from Target.com and select in-store pick-up for free delivery.
Now for that splash of red! One of the things I like about wearing classic, basic color pairings like navy and grey is that you can add any other color for accent. You can top this combo with any color vest or jacket you have – pink, white, yellow, orange, green…or red!
By the way, my shoes are the Kelsey block heel pumps. They’re also available in black, orange and Hawthorne rose, and today they’re 30% off the already marked down price + another 20% off with code HOLIDAY.
My puffer vest is also available in black and bright pink, and it’s 30% off with code HOLIDAY. But I’ve linked to another nice vest in the widget below.

Blessed for My Day
Do you have situations in your life for which you need a little clarity right now? Does something have you confused? Truthfully, you may not ever get all the answers to your why, how or when questions. I hate to tell you that because I know how badly I want those questions answered myself. But there is One who can light the path so that you can navigate it successfully. Because He knows all the ins and outs of your dilemma, you don’t have to. You just have to know Him. And trust Him. Are you willing to allow Him to light the way today?
Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, “I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.” ~ John 8:12
I always love a splash of red too…it just add so much warmth to an outfit.

Totally off your topic today but did you find a mascara that you love?!
Hi Sue, I tried (and am still using) the It Hello Lashes 5-in-1 Mascara. It’s okay, but I’m not thrilled. I don’t especially like the applicator. I find it to be big and unwieldy. And it costs almost as much as my actual favorite mascara, which is Lancome’s Definicil’s Lengthening and Defining Mascara. I was just trying to find something cheaper, but I’ve about decided to stick with what I like. I like a mascara to mostly lengthen my lashes, not necessarily thicken them a lot. I don’t like my mascara to feel clumpy or for it to get crumbly as the day goes on. I like for my lashes to feel soft to the touch, otherwise they start irritating me. So, since I’m not finding anything better than the Lancome, I’m going back to it after I finish off this other.
I have learned some new things about applying mascara, so I think I’m going to do a post on that soon. And I think using those tips will help your mascara last longer.
You look fabulous, again. I can’t wait to see what you style each day, and that vest!! Love the pop of red! Cheer to the tree up!! Lol!
Loving this combo and I always say when in doubt, wear red! I’ve pinned your look to our Ageless Style board as this is one of my faves for December! Thanks for linking up with us.
