While I work from a home office, I still try to put together a somewhat “pulled together” look each day. And I know many of my readers do work outside the home, where dressing professionally is even more crucial. So today I’m sharing several items I found recently at Target and put together to create a modern workplace outfit. I’m styling a plaid blazer and black crop pants that will work beautifully through the spring and summer.
These black cotton crops are versatile pants that can be dressed up or down. I find them to be comfortable and very modern. I’m wearing my usual size 8 comfortably, so they’re true to size.
I’ve simply paired these easy pants with a ribbed crewneck t-shirt and topped the look with this great plaid blazer. The plaid is made up of black, grey and a pretty pink.
The plaid blazer would also look great with blue, black, grey or white jeans. And on the Target website they show the blazer with pink pants. So it’s quite versatile and lovely for spring and summer, but really all year.
I certainly could have worn black or even nude flats or heels with this outfit, but I decided to accentuate the modern vibe by wearing my white pointy toe flats. I picked these up in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, and they’re sold out. But these white flats are very similar. And these in the bone snake print would work beautifully here, too. And while these white mules may or may not work for your office dress code, they’re a great budget option.
By the way, I’m wearing an 8 in the blazer and it fits true to size. I think the sleeves are a tad long, but you could have them taken up if necessary. The jacket is fully lined, but it’s a nice light weight. Really a sweet quality jacket for the price.
I’m wearing some simple acrylic square hoop earrings from Target with my silver link collar necklace and compass coin pendant necklace. I’m really enjoying layering these delicate, simple necklaces.
Finally, I also picked up this classic grey satchel at Target. I’m quite impressed with Target’s selection of handbags. They’re not especially high quality, of course. But these are great bags to wear with unique outfits, so that you don’t have to invest as much in them.
I realize these black crop pants are not everyone’s cup of tea. But I think they’re modern and fresh. And you could easily duplicate this look with pants of a different silhouette.

Blessed for My Day
I’ve been visiting each of our church’s Sunday school classes for three weeks over the past seven months. This past Sunday I was in our oldest senior adults’ class when the scripture passage below came up in our lesson. There wasn’t a dry eye in the small room as a a dear man, weary from battling cancer and other health problems, slowly read the familiar passage. Suddenly, the words took on fresh meaning.
Then our teacher reminded us that eagles do not soar high because of flapping their wings, but rather by being lifted up on the current of air beneath them. Likewise, the Spirit of the Lord lifts us up if we will simply relax into Him and yield to Him in our times of weariness. If you are tired today, weary from a battle or long ordeal, won’t you rest into the arms of your Lord? He will give you strength even when you feel like you can’t take another step.
Do you not know? Have you not heard?
The Everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth
Does not become weary or tired.
His understanding is inscrutable.
He gives strength to the weary,
And to him who lacks might He increases power.
Though youths grow weary and tired,
And vigorous young men stumble badly,
Yet those who wait for the Lord
Will gain new strength;
They will mount up with wings like eagles,
They will run and not get tired,
They will walk and not become weary. ~ Isaiah 40:28-31
Love the look but not so much those pants. Business on top and play on the bottom. Not work worthy in my office. Love the jacket though. We don’t always have to agree but I really get great information from your site and I enjoy your daily Bible studies. Especially today’s! One of my favorite section of verses in the Bible. Have a great day!
I’m so glad that y’all are safe in GA! I really like this outfit on you, Kay! I have added the pants to my favorites on the Target site. I’ve learned that the key to putting together a nice outfit with the wide leg, cropped, & full pants is to wear a more fitted top, as you said and shared with us. I’m glad the top doesn’t have to be real fitted since that style doesn’t belong in my closet. Because I LOVE to have numerous handbags to carry, in various colors, it does not make sense for me to spend a lot of $$ on them. I have quite a few from Target. Love the scripture in BFMD! Have a great day!
Thank you for putting this outfit together . I looked the blazer and plaid pants just a few days go think this could make a cute easter outfit. Now seeing the black pants option , Im think that may make it more Versatile.
Kay, that Isaiah passage in BFMD is my favorite! Duringthe Christmas holiday, I was blessed to see a bald eagle soaring low over the Colorado River. He was just hanging out over the hot springs.Of course the sight brought this scripure and God’s faithfulness and love to mind. Thank you for the reminder today!
I’m going to head to Target to check out that blazer, too! Blessings! Enjoy Georgia!
Great message today!
