Plaid Wool Blend Skirt + Turtleneck

It’s no coincidence that many of my outfits are variations on the red and black color theme, y’all. I’m a proud Georgia Bulldog. But regardless, I do love me some red and black! And I’m excited to show you this beautiful red, black and white winter skirt outfit I’ve put together today. This plaid wool blend skirt is super sporty and fun to wear.

You can duplicate this look so easily with any plaid wool blend skirt. I like to go with something right at knee length. That’s a flattering length on most all body proportions, especially if you wear tights and shoes of the same color.

Simply let your plaid skirt steal the show and keep everything else in your outfit a hush, hush neutral. For instance, you could wear this same skirt with all winter white or all grey. You could also wear it with a red turtleneck or sweater and puffer vest. But I’d probably stick with the black tights and shooties in that case.

When I wear all black like this, I definitely carry one of my black handbags. I love my Tory Burch black hobo so much that I bought the brown or “moose” one, too, when they were 30% off recently. That’s strictly against my “no duplicates” policy. Hahaha! But I just love this purse that much! But I also like this very similar hobo bag, which features a much more reasonable price tag.

My plaid wool blend skirt is from Talbots, where you can get 40% off your entire purchase with code FRIENDS40. This a-line skirt has a side zip for a flat front and is fully lined.

gold bangle

I wanted to draw your attention to my gold bangle. I wear this easy, everyday bangle so often and usually I don’t really mention it. But I just wanted to let you know that it really is such a great go-to bracelet. And of course it’s 40% off right now, too, with code FRIENDS40.

Black Turtleneck

I’ll be posting my winter wardrobe essentials list next week, and you can bet a black turtleneck will be on my list. Or at least a turtleneck in the neutrals of your choice. I love this one from Talbots because it keeps its shape, has a nice drape and feels substantial, a little more like a sweater than a shirt.

The only thing I’m disappointed in with this outfit is the tights. I thought they were more opaque. When I wear black tights I want them to be SOLID. I can see in the photos now that these are not. I just purchased them and have been wracking my brain to remember where. Alas, I can’t remember and it doesn’t really matter because I don’t recommend them.

My booties are several years old, but I’ve linked to some similar ones in the shopping widget below.

Thanks so much for spending a few minutes at Dressed for My Day today. By the way, with sweater weather in full swing, I wanted to draw your attention to my post from last year, How to Care for Your Cashmere Sweaters. Even if your sweaters are not cashmere, this post contains valuable tips for helping to extend the life of your pullovers and cardigans.

Blessed for My Day

God, through His angel, called young Mary to do a hard thing. Oh sure, it seems like an honor now. But to a young, unwed, virgin teenager, the call to carry the Christ child must have seemed overwhelming and beyond belief. What hard thing has God called you to do? Maybe He’s called you to care for aging parents, stand by a difficult man, pray for a wayward child, embrace an in-law you don’t quite click with or work alongside a co-worker who unnerves you.

Mary’s response to the responsibility God gave her was to praise Him. Instead of complaining about her burden she testified to God’s good deeds. She recounted the “great things” he had done for her when He called her to do this one thing for Him. Think about that one thing He has called you to do. Then, in the context of that difficult role, recount the many good things He has done for you.

And Mary said, “My soul magnifies the Lord,
     and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
for he has looked on the humble estate of his servant.
    For behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed;
for he who is mighty has done great things for me,
    and holy is his name.
And his mercy is for those who fear him
    from generation to generation.
He has shown strength with his arm;
    he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts;
he has brought down the mighty from their thrones
    and exalted those of humble estate;
he has filled the hungry with good things,
    and the rich he has sent away empty.
He has helped his servant Israel,
    in remembrance of his mercy,
as he spoke to our fathers,
    to Abraham and to his offspring forever.” ~ Luke 1:46-55
