Soft Surroundings Try-On Session for Fall 2018

Hello, gals! I’m so glad you stopped by Dressed for My Day today because I have a special treat for you. I’m featuring a recent try-on session at Soft Surroundings. I had shopped this unique retailer for kimonos and tops before, but I had never, not once tried on any of their pants. Y’all. I was quite impressed. And no one is paying me to say that!

My bet is that my readers fall into one of two camps. Either you love Soft Surroundings and you shop there often. Or you’ve walked in and walked around (like me!) but not really given this shop a try. Why? Because the clothing here is significantly “different.”

But when I was in Tucson recently I decided to really try some things on, and not just tops or kimonos! I didn’t really expect to like anything I took to the fitting room. But I was willing to take one for the team, you know? But I have to tell you, I actually like the way these clothes feel on the body, the way they’re constructed and the way they look on me. Let’s see what you think.

My size for reference

For reference, I’m 5’8″ and weigh 148. I have a curvy shape and fairly balanced proportions. I generally wear a small in tops, an 8 in pants and a 6 in jeans. Sometimes I wear a medium in tops or jackets because I do have broad shoulders.

Special Occasion Outfits

First up, I tried two outfits that would work beautifully for special events. I could see wearing these combinations as a comfy but beautiful Thanksgiving day ensemble or even later in the Christmas season. They would also work nicely for a high school reunion (as one of my readers mentioned in the comments section yesterday), a girls’ night out or a retirement gathering.

This flowing silk button up shirt also comes in a beautiful chocolate brown and an animal print (which you know I love!). I’m wearing a small shirt.

The leggings have a straight-and-slim silhouette with an allover flocked pattern on navy ponte knit. They have a functional button fly, scoop front and back pockets. The leggings feature an elastic waistband with belt loops. I’m wearing a small and they fit nicely.

I think this pairing is perfect for a relaxed special occasion. If you chose a different Vivi silk shirt, you could simply wear Soft Surroundings’ super stretch pants, which come in a number of great shades such as chocolate, parchment, black and salt, or their black ultra slim ponte pants.

I especially love the above outfit. The saleswoman said it is an updated version of a duo they sold last year, and it sold out early in the fall. They had just gotten this in when I tried it on.

The Margulies Sweater also comes in taupe, grey, Moroccan red and black. I love the taupe, personally. I’m wearing a small and it fits well. It’s not especially loose, however, so if you want a blousier look, I’d order up a size.

I’m including a photo from the Soft Surroundings website with this outfit because I want you to see how it looks from the back. My iPhone photo really doesn’t do it justice.

You can see in the photo above how nice these pants look with heels, too. But you could certainly wear this duo with dressy flats. I’m wearing a small in the pants.

Casual Outfit

Next I tried on a pair of pull-on jeans with a surplice top. Here, I was extremely surprised.

These jeans. These are the five pocket pull-on leggings in dark denim. First of all, yes, you just pull them on. But they don’t wear like pull-on pants. They feel like the real deal. And really, they look like ordinary jeans, too. They stretch; they move. But they feel really good. I’m wearing a small and they fit nicely.

It appears that this must have been a summer color for the surplice top because I can’t find it in the listings. But they have several other pretty shades, including haute red, gold and deep teal. I’m wearing a small.

This top is very flattering and the ruching on the side would help give the illusion of a feminine shape even if you’re a little stocky. I think it’s a win.

You may have noticed in my header photo that I tried on one more outfit. Unfortunately, I can’t find this kimono anywhere in the online catalog, so it must be old. But I’m adding several of Soft Surroundings’ current toppers and kimonos to the shopping widget below. Obviously, you don’t need me to try these on to see how lovely they are.

However, I can’t link in the shopping widget to the loveliest topper I’ve seen at Soft Surroundings: this Tamara Topper. This is absolutely exquisite, and perfectly suited for the fall.

I wish I had the opportunity to try on more at Soft Surroundings, but hopefully this post at least provides a glimpse into how these clothes fit. Dressed for My Day

Today may we bless those around us with our words. Let’s be vigilant about guarding our tongue, so that we do not say anything that would cause another to stumble. Let’s resist the urge to criticize unduly, the temptation to gossip, the pull to join in murmuring and the slippery slope of foul talk. In fact, let’s raise the bar a little. Today may we truly bless our worlds with words that encourage, build up, bring joy, restore hope, provide clarity and gently impart wisdom. Let’s be slow to speak, measuring out what we say carefully so that we don’t have any regrets at the end of the day.
