I work from a home office most of the time, but occasionally I do have the privilege to speak before large groups of women. When I present I try to dress to influence, not to impress. That means sometimes I wear jeans, a simple tee and a colorful kimono. It all depends on the setting. But sometimes the setting calls for something a little more professional. And that’s when I would wear this khaki suit with a colorful blouse.
I chose this khaki suit by Antonio Melani because it’s a great weight for spring and summer, the color is versatile and soft and silhouette is modern. The jacket is unlined, so I think the jacket is pretty pricey for the quality. But then again I wouldn’t necessarily want it lined for the warmer months.
The pants are the Antonio Melani Logan Twill Pant, and they have a front button and zip closure. The waist of the pants sits mid-low on me. For reference, I’m wearing a size 8 and they’re a little too roomy.
I chose a bright pink silky shell to wear with the khaki suit because I like the bright pop of color against the soft, muted background. This shell is by DR2 and I bought it at Nordstrom Rack, but I can’t find it anymore on line. I do like this tie-front pink top with the suit. Other great options would include this pale blue popover and this light pink pintuck ruffle shell.
I’m wearing a statement necklace from Premier Jewelry that I bought years ago, but an equally good choice would be this Pearlized Statement Necklace from Ann Taylor. I think the suit needs some substantial jewelry since the color is pale and the texture is minimal. My earrings are the same pattern as my necklace, and I think Ann Taylor’s pearl earrings would complement the necklace I mentioned.
I’m wearing my old but faithful Talbots snakeskin pumps with the khaki suit. I kept the color close to that of the suit to create a long leg silhouette, but added some texture and interest with the snakeskin. I think these patent leather slingbacks in classic nude would look gorgeous with this suit and so much more.
I’ll confess, I ended up returning this suit because I lost more weight after buying it. But I do love it. It’s a “tiny bit” pricey right now. But it would be worth it if you wear suits to work on a regular basis. And it’s definitely worth watching for a sale.
Tell me, what kind of environment do you work in? I’d love to know more about my readers’ work so that I can provide better suggestions for work wear. Like I said, I usually work from home, but I actually love office attire. So let me know what the parameters are for your career wardrobe and I’ll see if I can provide suggestions that might work well for a number of my readers.
By the way, yesterday I posted 5 Body Parts Making You Look Older than You Are. I think you’ll want to check this out if you’re interested in looking beautiful head to toe. And be sure to share it with your friends on Facebook or Pinterest. And are you hanging out with me on social media? I’m on Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter and, my favorite, Instagram.
How funny because I just bought a suit, and I really have no reason to wear it much. Except that I loved it. In fact we are showcasing suits on the blog next week!!
