Happy Monday, dear friend. I’m so glad you’ve dropped in for a little style inspiration. Fall came late to Ohio, as I understand it did many other places, too. But it’s definitely here now. The leaves are finally turning cranberry red, pumpkin orange, russet brown and golden yellow. Granted, many of them have already fallen to the ground. But still I think we’ll have a couple of weeks of magical colors to enjoy. Speaking of the colors of fall, one of my favorite colors to wear at this time of year is soft camel. So today let’s talk about the beauty of a classic camel sweater.

I didn’t have a camel sweater for the longest time. Somewhere along the way I decided that my coloring wasn’t good with camel, that it conflicted with my pale skin color. But the truth is camels come in a multitude of hues. You can find rich, deep, caramel camels, silvery camels and creamy bisque camels. So whether you have fair white skin or dark mahogany skin, you can find a camel that works for you. And regardless of whether your undertones are cool, warm or, like mine, neutral, you, too can wear camel.
With my fair skin and neutral undertones, I’ve decided that milky, soft camels work best for me. But you may decide to look for camels with mellow pink tones or a warm, yellow cast. I’ve discovered that trying it on and taking a picture in good lighting is the best way to determine if a certain shade of camel is good for you. And that may take a little trial and error. But I think it’s worth the effort.
Color Tip: If you don’t know your skin’s undertones or what tones look best on you, you might want to check out this post from the archives, What to Wear So Your Eyes Pop.
The beauty of a classic camel sweater is that it goes with absolutely everything. Yes, you can even pair it with grey. In fact, that unusual color combination is very on trend and quite avantgarde. But today I’ve taken the safe route and topped my easy-to-wear navy ponte knit pants with my camel cashmere sweater.
Color Tip: If you’re still hesitant about wearing camel close to your face, remember you can always add a pretty scarf around your neck. Because camel is such a great neutral, you’ll find a multitude of scarves in a full variety of color combinations that you can pair with a camel sweater.
You can also wear most any color of metal with a camel sweater. But you’ll probably find that gold looks extra rich with camel that has neutral or warm undertones, while silver looks more on point with cool camels. But you could also wear jewelry in gunmetal, antique metals or pearls. Oooh, pearls! Perfection!
Because I happened to have them in my closet, I chose to wear my camel and brown python embossed loafers with my outfit. I love the way these shoes help bookend this outfit, as well as add a little interest. I purchased my loafers in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale last year, and they’re still available in limited sizes at Nordstrom Rack. They’re pricey, even on sale, but they’re like walking on clouds!
But you could also finish off this outfit with other camel flats, brown loafers or navy shoes.
I’ve filled the shopping widget below with lots more choices for camel sweaters. I found cashmere sweaters like mine, but also camel sweaters in other fabrication. And I have included sweaters from a variety of price points. Of course, you’ll also see that I found camel sweaters in a full range of undertones, but it may take a little trial and error to find the one that is best for you.
Does every woman have to have a camel sweater in her wardrobe? Absolutely not. But I do think that a camel sweater leads to endless styling possibilities. And when you have a classic camel sweater in your wardrobe you’ll never be lacking for that perfect topper to elevate a pair of blue jeans.

Make no mistake about it, there is a spiritual battle going on around us. And the enemy of our souls does not want us to exude the joy of the Lord, to triumph over our hardships, to share the good news of Jesus or even to rest in the love and faithfulness of God. When we experience discouragement, fear, anxiety and bitterness of the soul, we can know for certain that the enemy is seeking to devour us.
Don’t let him, sister! Step one, call it what it is…a spiritual attack. Next, resist him, firm in your faith. Third, be assured that you are not alone in this battle and seek the support of a Christian sister. And finally, choose to rejoice in the Lord. The enemy will flee and you will experience the victory of another battle won.
Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. So resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brothers and sisters who are in the world. ~ 1 Peter 5:8-9
Searching for a cool camel colored crew neck cashmere has been quite the treasure hunt. Your links have some gorgeous fabrications, but if any of your readers can share a “silvery camel” or cook camel, I would be forever grateful! Thanks for another great post.
Oops! It’s too early for typing! “Cool camel!”
I love my camel sweaters. The cashmere one is so soft and not at all scratchy. And you are right, it goes with everything. Mine are light weight enough to wear under jackets and coats for an extra layer. Kay, your scripture message to is so on point. We are fighting spiritual battles every day. Be strong in your faith!
The spiritual battle has been going on in our country for a few months now. We as Christians need to stand strong and still fine. Nice BFMD
I have stayed away from light camel sweaters because they wash me out
I am winter and bright colors look better on me. Will have to look for a darker shade. The camel looks good on you, the shade you’re wearing. I love it with navy and black.
Should’ve typed fight. We need to fight against the enemies and principalities.
Kay, I love this outfit on you. The camel and navy suit you perfectly!
Kay, I felt you we’re speaking just to me today because the last few weeks I am going through a Spiritual Battle!! I’ve been too ill to make it to church for a month now!! I NEVER miss church like this!! Yesterday I could hardly get out of bed!! Please pray for me!! I made it one day out of Revival last week!! But, that was the only day I could be there because I was at dialysis all the other days!! A camel sweater is such a classic. I own a gorgeous camel wrap that I just love wearing and it goes with so much. I also own a little darker camel cashmere turtleneck sweater but I simply don’t love the color as much as the wrap!!
Oh my. I’m so sorry you are struggling with this. I will absolutely pause and pray for you right now. 💕
Thanks for answering this color question that I have been wondering about. Camel is such a great neutral. Thanks for the scriptural reminder to keep our spiritual armoire intact. Blessings to you and yours.
I put my sweater and pants I want to wear in a layout on the bed and start throwing jackets by it until something goes aha! That’s how I discovered camel with navy. I just didn’t know what boots to wear. Brown. Yes. No wonder I follow you. I agree with you. We shouldn’t reject a color because it’s not our “season”.
BFMD is so on time for right now. There are some who call evil, good and good, evil.
Indeed. And the best defense is to know truth. 🥰
What a fantastic link to J.Crew ! The camel is lovely, but everyone should take a look at those other colors ! The teal is to die for. I have a good camel crewneck, so I ordered the Bright Poppy . They accepted my order, but I now see it has sold out (in Medium). Hopefully, they will still be able to process mine.
They do have lots of great colors, don’t they? I’m glad you were able to get the color you wanted. Bright Poppy sounds beautiful!
