Are you seeing signs of spring? We have had a few spring-like days where I could almost taste it. And then we’ve had cold days that remind me it is indeed still winter. But wherever you live, spring is undoubtedly on the way! So today I’m sharing some pretty spring fashions I recently got in from Talbots and Loft, as well as a few other odds and ends.

Sizing
I weigh about 155 on a good day and I’m holding steady so far at 5’8″ tall. I have a pear or hourglass shape and balanced proportions. That’s just to give you reference when you’re looking to see how these items fit on me.
I generally wear size 8 in tops, bottoms and dresses. But I sometimes wear the curvy fit size 8 if they are available. I generally wear a medium in all of those pieces, too. I wear a size 9.5 shoe almost without fail. So unless I tell you otherwise, those are the sizes I’m wearing. I’ll also alert you if something runs small or large; otherwise, assume it runs true to size. That way I can focus on other factors.
Spring Fashions from Talbots
Through the weekend, Talbots is offering 30% off full price dresses, skirts, accessories and shoes. But they’ve been dropping in some Flash Sales a lot lately, too. In fact, they had one last night. And I find they run them frequently on Sunday afternoons and evenings. Drop back in here throughout the weekend to check for those flash sales!
Most of this first set of photos will be spring fashions from Talbots. But I have thrown a few things in from other places just to complete the outfits. I’m going to try to start this try-on session with a bang and end with a bang. How’s that? In fact, I think this first duo is my favorite of all.
black demi boot pants // I’m so pleased to see Talbots staying true to their mantra of providing classic but modern fashions. These black demi boot pants definitely have a modern silhouette. They aren’t quite as “boot cut” as I’d hoped. But maybe that’s for the better. The fabric is smooth, slightly stretchy and elegant. But I think you can dress this black demi boot pants up or down. They also come in two other colors, but the black is going to be the most slimming. They run true to size. Verdict: Keeping.
white with black smocked blouse // I generally can’t wear Talbots’ popovers. I think my slightly wide shoulders cause me to have trouble getting them on and off. Anyone else? But I can get this great white with black smocked blouse on and off pretty well. The fabric is slightly on the light side, but I think it works. And the smocking, while undoubtedly not hand-smocked (sorry, I’m a smocker, so I felt the need to disclose that), it’s still a great feature. Very feminine and lovely. It fits true to size. Verdict: Keeping.
black Hannah Vacchetta Leather Slides // I ordered the cognac brown Hannah Vacchetta Leather Slides a month ago or so, but I had to send them back because I sized up a half size from my 9.5 to a 10 (as suggested on the website) and they were too large. This time I sized down to a 9 and they fit beautifully. I will have to wear these around the house a bit to break them in, but I anticipate them becoming quite comfortable with wear. Verdict: Keeping.
By the way, take note of the accessories I’m wearing in these photos. I’m not going to elaborate on them, but Talbots is offering 30% off shoes and accessories. I’m keeping all the ones I’m showing. And I especially like the gold rings necklace I showed above.
pebbled dot ruffle shell // I thought this pebbled dot ruffle shell would be great to wear with my black suit as well as with just white jeans or the black demi boot pants. And really if I ever end up buying any pants in a bolder color, this soft pebbled dot ruffle shell would work well there, too. It’s soft and flowy and easy. Verdict: Probably keeping.
In the next photo I’m really just showing you how this pebbled dot ruffle shell works with a couple of my blazers.
I know the cropped length black demi boot pants are not every woman’s cup of tea, but I actually like the length for spring and summer. It’s very fresh and modern.
Edison embellished Napa flats // I shared in yesterday’s February Favorites post that these shoes are great. They are surprisingly comfortable and oh so chic. In fact, I recently ordered the navy and ivory pair during a flash sale for 40% off. (I’m telling you, watch for those flash sales!) Verdict: Kept! And ordered more!
Pima cotton v-neck tee in raspberry // I want to like Talbots’ t-shirts so badly. But I just find them to stretch too much and they don’t fit me quite right in the shoulders. But if you love Talbots’ tees, this raspberry color is a pretty one (see the website for a better idea of the color). It fits true to size. I showed the length of the shirt in the photos above. And I showed how I would probably style it below. Verdict: Returning.
Modern Ankle Jeans in natural // Natural colored jeans are really trending this spring and summer. Expect to see lots of them. And I think this particular shade of “natural” is really nice in these Modern Ankle Jeans. I do find the Modern Ankle Jeans in natural to run just slightly small, very much like all the other Talbots modern ankle jeans. Also, like their other modern ankle jeans, these have a very high waist. They don’t offer the rise on the website, but I measured them at 12.25″. That’s pretty high even for me. They have less stretch than other Talbots jeans, too. Still, I do love the silhouette. Verdict: Not sure. I love them, but they’re snug. I’m working very seriously to lose a few pounds, so I’ll decide in a few weeks.
white denim jeggings // These fit and wear like skinny jeans, not leggings. I just wanted to clarify that in case you’re not familiar with Talbots’ jeggings. They’re a nice thick denim and I really like the fit. I’m wearing the curvy fit in these, but they also come in a regular fit. And remember, most Talbots styles are available in plus, petite and plus petite. And these even come in tall (in the regular fit only). Verdict: Keeping, but I really am over skinny jeans. I’m keeping these mainly for showing here on the blog for followers who prefer them.
classic v-neck tee in Porto stripe // I anticipate this classic v-neck tee in Porto stripe being a workhorse in my wardrobe this spring and summer. Stripes are really trending, and I love a striped tee peaking out from under a blazer or jacket. It doesn’t feel like their Pima tees, so I really like the quality of this tee better. The website says this tee is 100% cotton and the Pima tees are 100% Pima cotton. I guess there’s a difference. I can definitely tell a difference in the way it feels and wears. Verdict: Keeping.
Hampshire Ankle Pants in sprout texture // I had high hopes for these light grey Hampshire Ankle Pants in sprout texture, but I don’t know. I think I definitely would not style them with these black Mimi Woven Nappa Sandals. I love, love, love these block heeled sandals, so I wanted to show them to you. They also come in navy and dark tan and they’re quite comfortable. But I don’t like the black with these low intensity pants. I also think I’d like it better with my white linen blazer rather than this black one. What do you think???
Anyhow, the Hampshire Ankle Pants in sprout texture don’t come in a curvy fit, and that’s really what I need in this pant. But I think I’ll hold onto them for a little while (as I shed those few pounds!) and decide later. They’re a nice lightweight pant for spring and summer. And such a nice option when you’re tired of navy, black and brown for the office. Verdict: Undecided.
sleeveless shirt // I love Talbots’ perfect shirts. Sometimes I have a problem with the shoulder laying down correctly on the sleeveless ones, but I think this sleeveless shirt is going to work. I was surprised to see how nicely it worked under the girlfriend cardigan, which I reviewed in a previous try-on session (and obviously kept!).
Fray Hem Ankle Bootcut Jeans // So yeah, these Fray Hem Ankle Bootcut Jeans are not from Talbots and they’re quite pricey. But I had been wanting to try the cropped bootcut silhouette (fashion blogger duty calls!) and I knew I wanted them to be good ones if I was going to go for it. I’d heard great things about these Mother the Hustler high waist Fray Hem Ankle Bootcut Jeans. (Where do they get these names???) Anyhow, I was not disappointed. I did size up to a 31 since they are white jeans and I definitely did not want them to look tight. But I love, love, love these jeans and I really like the way the demi boot silhouette works with them. Verdict: Keeping.
Loft Spring Fashions
Now let’s see what I got from Loft recently. I’m sharing other jeans with these because I didn’t get any from Loft. But they do have some nice denim online. And right now at Loft you can use code LUCKYU to get 50% off your full price order. Unfortunately this first top is a “sneak preview” and not included in the deal.
Eyelet Flutter Sleeve Top // Here’s another trend that I’ve been avoiding for the past couple of years. I just felt like the really big flutter sleeves might look juvenile or at least a little too young for my 58 years. But I’m surprised at how much I like this particular Eyelet Flutter Sleeve Top. The fabric is great – so soft and the drape is perfect. And I think the fit of the bodice really helps balance the sleeves. I think it’s nice that it’s close-fitting and not all blousy. What do you think? Verdict: Probably keeping.
Striped everyday v-neck tee // I really still prefer neutrals over lots of color, but something about this multi colored tee just grabbed me. I think it looks best under something, but you could certainly wear it alone. I’m sure I will. Again, this everyday v-neck tee fits close to the body, which I really like in a t-shirt. It’s soft and has a nice weight to it. It’s definitely light, but substantial enough. Verdict: Keeping.
Relaxed V-Neck Cardigan // Loft has a couple of these v-neck cardigans, but I like this Relaxed V-Neck Cardigan much better than this relaxed v-neck cardigan. The second one, the one I didn’t get, just hangs bad. But the Relaxed V-Neck Cardigan I’m showing here fits nicely, hangs well and is so soft and pretty. It comes in other colors, too. Verdict: Keeping.
Paige Cindy High Waist Straight Leg Jeans // Okay, here’s another pair of premium jeans. Yeah, I just really like my premium jeans. I know that’s not a spendy item for everyone. But I wear mine a lot and I’m just done with jeans that don’t really feel or look good. I’d rather wear the same well fitted and comfortable three pairs over and over than have a dozen that feel tight or fall down on me. That said, these Paige Cindy High Waist Straight Leg Jeans feel amazing. They have a nice high waist and just feel great on the body. But be warned, they are very distressed in odd places. They are missing a big part of the back pocket! Ha! But I just wear tops or jackets over them. I did size up to a roomy 31. Maybe that’s why they feel so good. Ha!
Boyfriend Shirt // I apologize. I mussed this shirt up a bit before showing it to you. I guess I should have ironed or steamed it. But I think it’s really just a nice topper for a tee or tank. It fits true to size for a very relaxed, oversized fit. And I especially love that the arms are very roomy. Verdict: Undecided.
Flecked Pocket Tunic Sweater // I wear lightweight sweaters a lot in the spring, so I thought this confetti Flecked Pocket Tunic Sweater would be a nice addition to my work from home wardrobe. It’s very lightweight, almost more like a top than a sweater. But I love the confetti flecks on it. And it’s very comfortable. I’m wearing it right now as I finish this post! Verdict: Keeping.

Is there something you’ve been praying for to no avail? Something you want badly, but God has not given it to you? I know how devastating that can feel. And I know that it may also seem unfair. But we can trust that God indeed gives us everything we need. And if He, in His love and sovereignty, chooses not to give us the answer or the thing we so desire, then we must trust that He knows best.
God will not withhold any good thing from those who seek Him and walk with Him. That means if He does hold something back from us that thing would not be good for us at all. Trust that God is always for you; He is not against you. It can be hard to accept these truths. But when we learn to trust and lean into God’s love and protection, we become more joyful in His good provisions.
For the Lord God is a sun and shield;
the Lord bestows favor and honor.
No good thing does he withhold
from those who walk uprightly. ~ Psalm 84:11
I like the red eyelet top on you. The fit looked good; not too “girly” and the red is a great color on you! Keep it!! 🙂
Enjoyed the post! I agree with your Jean statement. As I’m getting older, fit is the most important aspect. Unfortunately for my wallet, the high $$$ jeans just fit better, don’t stretch out quickly, and the color is perfect.
I was a little disappointed in some of the tops you tried on. I did like the light blue polka dotted and vivid blue tie blouse. So nice on you. I also liked the stripped top in bright colors. All 3 tops looked so nice on you. I would like to have seen more stripped tops, as strips are everywhere now and have seen some nice ones from Talbots. I did like the Hampshire pants and most of the jeans you tried on. I wish there was not so much framed hem jeans, but hemmed. Looks more put together. I did buy the framed hem jeans from Nordstrom, Wit and Wisdom and love how they fit. Nice jeans. Love the high waist jeans on me, sorry to hear the low waisted jeans are coming back. Do not fit me well and do not look good on me, as I am long waisted. Sorry this is wordy.
I don’t think we need to worry about the return of the low rise. I think they’re just returning as one option among many. We’ll continue to see plenty of high rise for a while.
These were just clothes I’m considering for my personal wardrobe. I plan to duck into some stores soon for broader scope try-ons.
I think the Talbot’s sleeveless polka dot blouse is really pretty on you!
Loved the blue polka dot, ruffle neck and vivid blue bow blouses. BFMD is especially meaningful for me. Thank you.
So many cute spring outfits! My favorite is the natural jeans, the raspberry t and the jean jacket. I’m with you 100% on your statement “I want to like Talbot’s t-shirts so badly” . Me too!!! The quality is excellent but unfortunately they just never fit quite right – especially the length. Way too long to look fashionable in my opinion – especially if you want to wear them untucked.
I completely agree with you about buying the more expensive jeans because of the fit and how much better I feel wearing them. I did a jean clean out a few weeks ago and it felt great!
So many cute items today! Spring is definitely in the air and these fashions help with the good feeling. You look great in the red flutter top, green cardi with the blue polka dot top and the first look – smocked top and black pants.
I always enjoy seeing what outfits you’ve put together.
BFMD was very appropriate for me today. It’s helping with my healing.
Thank you for these try on posts. I love seeing what you put together. Everything on the models tend to be too matchy-matchy for me but you have a good eye for mixing and I appreciate it!. I love several of these outfits from this and your previous try on session. Bonus: the Loft is letting me use 2 discount codes! SURPRISE and LUCKU.
Again, thanks for your posts and enjoy that line dancing!!!
The blue polka dot blouse with the green boyfriend cardi is my favorite. The blue cardigan is also great on you. For one thing, it’s a bit shorter, making it the ideal length. So many shirts and sweaters end right at the top of the thigh, which is not the best spot for most of us!
