Well, happy Friday everyone! We made it to the finale of another week. They sure do fly by! And speaking of flying by, where has the summer gone? I realize we still have plenty of warm days ahead of us, but kids are going back to school, college football fans fill the stadiums next week and August is over half way done. I even saw bags of yellow and orange candy corn at the check out counter at Target yesterday. Speaking of Target, today I’m styling three Universal Threads products from there. This is another outfit that fits the bill of transitional clothing, I think. And my whole ensemble costs less than $100!
James and I headed to the other side of town to an old ranch at the base of the Huachuca Mountains to take these photos. I thought we could all use a change of scenery. And these boyfriend jeans and plaid shirt seemed to fit in these rustic surroundings. But really, this is a fun and comfy outfit for any easygoing day and casual environment.
Both my jeans and plaid button up shirt are by Universal Threads and can be found at Target. Unfortunately I can’t find the exact plaid shirt online, but I’ve linked to a similar one. It’s just a different print, but it’s the same fabric composition. And this shirt is extremely soft and comfortable. They may have this shirt and additional color combinations at your local Target store.
My shirt is a Small and I’m wearing size 8 jeans. I really might could wear the 6s, as these are nicely roomy, but they could stretch out. They didn’t have the 6 at my store, however, and I wanted to get these photos taken, so I went with the 8. And honestly, I like my boyfriend jeans to be nice and roomy. I mean they’re supposed to be my boyfriend’s jeans, right?! They shouldn’t fit tight, but loose and comfy.
I was really surprised when I tried on several pairs of Universal Threads from Target jeans recently and they all felt great. But these are definitely the favorites of the ones I tried.
Did you know that you can order online with Target and then pick up your order at your local store? I did that just recently, and my order was actually ready for pick-up two days ahead of schedule. You don’t have to pay shipping when you order for store pick-up either.
My cognac handbag is another Target find. Also by Universal Threads, this little faux leather bag is soft and trendy with plenty of interior pockets and a removable shoulder strap. It comes in several other seasonal shades including black, blush, camel and deep olive. I think it’s a great little find.
My belt is a Lauren by Ralph Lauren leather belt that I’ve had for a while, but I found this one at Target that would work well, too. I’ve also included several other great options from Target in the shopping widget below.
I order these corduroy sneakers from Teva a couple of weeks ago from Nordstrom Rack. I’m absolutely loving them. I think this fig color (not as purple as they appear in this photo, more deep maroon) is really trendy and will look great with blue denim or black, gray or navy athleisurewear this fall and winter. They’re no longer available at Rack, but you can get these similar canvas ones at Nordstrom or the exact same corduroy ones – fig color and all – at 6pm. They also have them in other shades such as vintage indigo, walnut or black. I’ve included them in the shopping widget below, too.
Great shoes!
I kept my jewelry simple and classic. After all this is an outfit I would wear to drive through the mountains looking at fall foliage, gathering apples or picnicking along the way. I have on my James Avery butterfly pendant (similar), my James Avery butterfly hook bangle (similar) and my Fossil watch (similar). My earrings are large silver medallions I bought years ago. But here are some similar ones.
Do you shop at Target for clothing and fashion accessories? I probably wouldn’t look to Target for investment pieces, those you hope to have around for years. But some of the brands they promote are actually very wearable and flattering. These jeans fit well and feel like jeans are supposed to. Oh, and they’re on sale right now, too. The shirt is amazingly soft, although it probably isn’t especially well sewn so it may only last a season or two. And the handbag is classic and a beautiful color.
While my shoes aren’t Target finds, they were marked down significantly when I purchased them. So all in all my jeans, shirt, handbag and shoes come in under $100 total. That’s the kind of outfit you can look great in and feel good about wearing it, too!

Do you need to apologize? Oh, I know how hard that can be. I hate making apologies. But honestly, a well delivered apology can help mend a relationship that’s hanging on by a thread. If you need to apologize for a mistake you’ve made, may I encourage you to do a few simple things? Admit the wrong, even if you didn’t mean to do it. Acknowledge the other person’s feelings, even if you can’t relate to them. Their feelings are real. Don’t use the word but. No, not even once. Buts cancel out everything that was said before them. Say, “I’m sorry.” Those two little words pack a powerful punch. But more importantly, ask, “Will you forgive me?” Those four words put the ball squarely in the other person’s court. And that gives them honor and respect, something they may feel has been lacking. Saying I’m sorry takes courage, humility, grace and love. It’s the big thing to do. Most often, it’s the right thing to do. And, even if it’s a little painful, the results will probably be beautiful. May your relationships be blessed because of your humility and diligence.
Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. ~ Philippians 2:3-4
I really love that your sneakers aren’t the same color—to me that’s such a modern detail!!

Yes, I love the splash of color on my feet, too! Thanks for reading!
Love the shoes…ordered a pair the exact color…now I can be chic like you!
LOL! Yes, two chic chicks! That’s us!
Love the shoes and the handbag! The handbag looks similar to the Madewell?
Yes, it does look a lot like the Madewell from Nordstrom. Probably not as durable, but great for a season or two.
