Happy Friday, girlfriends! Another weekend is upon us. Do you have big plans? My big plans consist of housework mostly. But I am taking a little time to celebrate my hubby’s birthday, too. Yep, today James officially catches up with me! So hats off to my amazing photographer, pastor and partner! He’s the best!

Well, on to today’s fashion post. If I were in Georgia, where I grew up, I would so wear this outfit for a leaf peeping excursion in the North Georgia mountains.

We’d drive through Hiawassee and Dahlonega and Cleveland and maybe even Helen, oohing and aahing at the multicolored foliage falling from the trees. We’d buy bags of apples, sip cider and munch on boiled peanuts. Maybe we’d check out a North Georgia vineyard and do a wine tasting. I’d look at antiques and knick-knacks and want to buy them all…but resist in the long run. Maybe we’d even hike a little…up to a waterfall or overlook. What a day!

Alas, I don’t know if I’ll get to Georgia for leaf peeping this fall. I may get to see some pretty yellow aspens here in Arizona. But if you have the opportunity to take such a day trip wherever you live, I hope you get to wear something like this green utility jacket and jeans. That’s what I’d wear.

Most of my ensemble is from Target again today. I think this is the last of my Target finds for a while, but I love that I found so many great pieces there to show you. This Universal Thread t-shirt is just $8, but it’s sturdy and comfortable. Light enough for layering, but thick enough to wear without a cami. I’m wearing a small.

I’m wearing the Universal Thread high rise kick boot crop jeans. I think mine are a medium wash and all I’m finding online is a light wash. But then, maybe that’s what these are. On a scale from 1 to 10 with 10 being great, I’d give these jeans a 6. I think they look smart and trendy. But I’ve had more comfortable jeans. These aren’t terribly uncomfortable, but they’re just not great. So that’s what I have to say about that. Oh, and I’m wearing an 8 regular.

If you like the style, but want something I can recommend more highly, I’d suggest you check out these Treasure & Bond high waist flared crop jeans that I got during the anniversary sale. They fit true to size, and I love them. I have them in a size 29 and I styled them in this post.

I topped off my ensemble with this great utility anorak jacket from Universal Thread. Isn’t this jacket fun? It feels great on and it’s definitely on trend. In fact, the utility jacket has been in style for some time now, but I haven’t bought one until this year. If you’re looking for a trending, easy-going jacket that will go with so many things…at a low price, this is the one. It’s also available in copper (see the widget below), gray and green camouflage. I’m wearing the small utility jacket, and I have plenty of room for a shirt underneath.

My little burgundy kerchief adds a splash of much needed color. You can achieve the same effect with any bandanna, but this feminine little square from Universal Thread is just $6 at Target. And a square like this really softens up this utility jacket.

Don’t forget, you can order online at Target.com and have your order delivered to your nearest Target to avoid shipping fees. That’s a sweet deal because generally they have more sizes available online than they do in a store.

Finally, my tote is also a Target find. This Universal Thread (are you noticing the common “Thread” in this post? ha!) Rowan small tote in cognac is of course faux leather. But it is soft and durable and classic. If you’re wanting a new bag this fall, but don’t want to spend a lot of money, this is a nice option. It’s also available in black, blush, gray and deep olive.

Alas, my shoes are not from Target. Ha! I got these at Nordstrom Rack a few weeks ago, and they’re sold out, other than a couple of sizes in blue. But they’re available in a full range of sizes and colors here for just $10 more. I did have to work with the insoles a little to get them to feel good on my feet. But now, after wearing them a couple of weeks, these shoes are feeling great.

I know it’s a little early to start planning that leaf peeping trip. But you could go ahead and check out this leaf peepers’ fall foliage map provided by the Weather Channel. I’d hate for you to miss the colors at their prime! Meanwhile, why not think about what you’ll wear on your excursion? Maybe something like today’s utility jacket and jeans with some colorful sneakers might just fit the bill.

Have a beautiful and blessed weekend, gals. Better yet, be a blessing this weekend!

Blessed for My Day

May your burdens lighten today, not just because it’s the weekend, but because you realize that God is for you. He is at work on your behalf, even when you cannot hear any evidence of work. He is thinking of you, even when you neglect to fix your mind on Him. He is faithful, even when you are faithless. He is good, all the time. Yes, you may feel at times like you are on a downhill slope, but in fact, God will not allow you to reach the end of your rope without providing a safety net. Trust Him, dear sister. He is so worthy of our trust.

When I thought, “My foot slips,” your steadfast love, O Lord, held me up. When the cares of my heart are many, your consolations cheer my soul. ~ Psalm 94:18-19

  1. I love your comments of blessing at the end of the post. I am so encouraged! Thank you also for including less expensive options on your fashion finds……not sure how I feel about Target with some of their decisions, however. Have a blessed and wonderful weekend.

    1. Hi Beth, yeah shopping with most retailers leaves me in somewhat of a quandary right now. It’s a mixed bag really. I don’t have a lot of options where I live and I’m not sure that boycotting certain stores solves anything anyhow. I’m reminded that hardworking, honest and loving people work there trying to earn a living and those people have nothing to do with corporate policies or the company’s public relations. So… Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I completely understand. ?

  2. I love this outfit and promptly ordered using your widgets. Universal Thread is one of my favorites. Thanks for the post!

    1. I’m so glad you liked this outfit, Becky! I can just see you wearing it in your outdoor demonstrations and clinics and such this fall! Thanks so much for shopping through the widget. You’re a gem! ?

  3. I loved this outfit & just Pinned It! Your earrings caught my eye as well. They lend interest to this look. When it cools off here in San Diego I will definitely copy this look! Thank you Kay. P.S. I love David and the Book of Psalms. When I was younger I thought the Psalms were depressing. But as I grow older my heart has changed and I cherish the words.

    1. Yeah, I’ve been reading through the psalms recently and find so much encouragement, empathy and hope there. I’m glad today’s blessing resonated with you. ?

  4. Happy Birthday to James! I’ve never heard it called leaf peeping!

I found a jacket similar to this at Target two years ago and have received many compliments. Love your outfit!

    1. Yeah, it’s not like we ever called it leaf peeping either, but that seems to be a term coined on the Internet. I just thought it sounded cute! How great that you have gotten so many compliments on your Target utility jacket! ?

  5. Love the outfit! We also love Helen and Delonagha. One of our favorite places to go. Living in the Panhandle of Florida we don’t have much fall around here. I am originally from Ohio so I really miss the changing foliage.

    1. I bet Ohio is beautiful in fall. My son lives there now and he and his fiancé seem to be planning a fall wedding for next year, so maybe I will get to see it. Thanks for reading today. ?

  6. Nice comfy look Kay. Autumn is my absolute favorite season and time of the year. For the last couple of days the weather has been gorgeous here in NC. Our mountains had high 40s yesterday morning. You can feel Fall in the air. As stated before, I purchased my leopard loafers at Target and actually wore them today. They are very comfortable and so versatile. Thank you for styling some well budgeted pieces. Enjoy your weekend. ~Lisa~
