Welcome to Dressed for My Day! If you weren’t already confused about the day of the week due to having a long holiday weekend, I’m doing my best to make you question what day it is. Hahaha! No, it’s not Wednesday. Due to a special collaboration with friend and fellow YouTuber, Robin of Faith & Flour, I’m sharing my usual style video on Thursday instead. We’re teaming up to share with you our Early Fall Capsule Wardrobes. You are in for such a treat!

I met Robin after simply watching a few of her videos and leaving comments. She was so sweet to offer to collaborate with me. At Faith & Flour, Robin uploads encouraging, informational and beautiful videos about various aspects of homemaking, including deep cleaning, decluttering, meal planning and preparation and zone cleaning. But she also has been sharing her seasonal and travel Ten Item Capsule Wardrobes for a couple of years now. So she invited me to link up with her to share our Ten Piece Capsule Wardrobes for Early Fall (aka transitional capsules).

I’ll have links at the end of my video so that you can hop over and watch Robin’s video today. I really hope you’ll do that. She’s been so gracious to invite her viewers (all 44.1K of them!!!) to meet me. But first, let me share just a bit more with you about the 10 Piece Capsule Wardrobe concept.

What is a 10 Piece Capsule Wardrobe?

  • A 10 piece capsule wardrobe consists of about 10 or more garments that you wear on rotation during a particular season or for a particular trip.
  • It doesn’t have to be exactly ten pieces. I did manage to get mine to ten, but you could also have 9 or 12 or 15 pieces. It’s not so much about the number as it is about minimalizing your wardrobe for ease, coordination and pleasure.
  • The 10 piece capsule wardrobe functions with your wardrobe essentials. You can see the list of fall wardrobe essentials here. And in this post and video I shared my personal fall wardrobe essentials. You’ll see me wearing many of them in today’s video.
  • A 10 piece capsule wardrobe is meant to make getting “dressed for my day” easier, not more difficult. That’s why I think it’s important to work within a color palette that you love and want to wear.

Okay, without further ado, let’s check out today’s video! In the event that the video player isn’t working here, you can watch the video here.

I hope you enjoyed today’s video. As I often do, I have a few extras for you here today. Below you’ll find Pinterest pinnable graphics of each outfit (I think I got them all!). Instead of creating one shopping widget, I’ve included links to my ShopStyle Shop, where you can easily shop each outfit. (Be sure to Join and Favorite my account while you’re there!) You’ll find the links to shop each outfit under the graphics.

Note: There are a few outfits for which I had to provide the links here in the photo captions. They contain clothing from retailers that are part of a different affiliate network.

My Fall Wardrobe Essentials + Early Fall Capsule Wardrobe

All of the outfits you saw in today’s video were created from my fall wardrobe essentials (27 pieces) and my early fall 10 piece capsule wardrobe. I believe I could have easily styled another 20 outfits (or maybe many more) from these versatile pieces.

What I’ve Learned…

I think even when I wrote this previous post about using capsule wardrobes last spring I didn’t fully understand how to put one together or how functional it can be. When you put together your 10 piece (or 12 or 16 or 20!) capsule with the understanding that it can all be combined with your wardrobe essentials, it really is easy and fun. And I’m determined to truly live with this capsule as I transition into fall.

Now, as I write this post, I’m on vacation and I don’t have all of this with me. So for the next couple of weeks I may vary from it some. But once I’m home and “living the life” I truly do plan to limit myself to outfits from these pieces. Do I have to? No. But as a style blogger who wants to help my readers learn to live frugally, wisely and yet beautifully and stylishly, I’m taking on the challenge!

Plus, I think it will make getting dressed each day both enjoyable and easier. I won’t feel guilt over wearing my favorites over and over (as I frequently do wear them on repeat!). And I’ll enjoy a wardrobe that is truly cohesive, modern and reflective of my personal style.

Tip: Don’t know your personal style? Take my quick quiz to help you determine your personal style aesthetic. It’s free, fun and no-fuss. Begin here.

What about you? Do you care to build a capsule wardrobe? I’d love to hear your thoughts. Thanks so much for reading and viewing. Don’t forget to check out Robin’s video, too. And let her know I sent you her way!

If Robin sent you my way…

Blessed for My Day

What in the world does it mean to be “born again?” While your Christian denomination may call it something else, this biblical term is a cornerstone for true faith. If Jesus said it, it’s important. That’s one of the reasons I’m taking us on a slow walk through the sayings of Jesus, the red-letter words.

A few things we do know… To be born again only happens through Jesus Christ. Later Jesus will say that He is the way, the Truth and the life, and that no one can come to the Father except through Him. We also know that to be born again is a new beginning. The old is passed away and all things are made new. It’s a fresh start. Hallelujah! Finally, we know that being born again is a birth through the Spirit of God. It is a spiritual birth into God’s kingdom.

But we have to leave some things unknown, too. Jesus says here in John 3:5-8 that we don’t really understand or comprehend the wind, and we can’t fully wrap our brains around a spiritual new birth either. But by faith we can accept that Jesus has paid for our forgiveness and redemption with His blood. And by faith we can know that we know that we know that we have been born again.

Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.” ~ John 3:5-8

If you’re not sure if you’ve been born again and you would like to know more about Jesus, I invite you to check out this website. I find it to be reliable, accurate and easy to navigate.

xoxo, Kay

  1. Kay, I love all your outfits in this Fall essentials wardrobe! And your hair looks fantastic! Your beautiful smile accentuates everything!

  2. I am so happy that you found Robin! I have been following her for over a year. She’s wonderful! And I’m thrilled I found you as well! Love you both!

  3. This wardrobe is so cohesive and it seems like you have way more than 10 pieces when I look at the still shots! Love it! I’m tempted…. 😊

  4. I loved these pieces to take outfits into the fall. I think you looked so good in those red pants. I don’t think I would have given them a second look on my own, but you made them so appealing. Not only did they fit your shape well you paired them with multiple tops so I could see they were versatile! It was great to not only see all the pieces quickly on the hangers but I really liked and learned when you showed so many ways to put them together. I have a question. I don’t look good in white around my face. I think I look good in a black t shirt. What would you recommend for a second color for a neutral solid shirt ( I have black) . Thanks!
