What I Wore in Georgia this Week

Hello from Georgia! I’ve been here since last Thursday visiting with family and helping my daughter search for a wedding gown for her upcoming nuptials. We found one! And it’s classic Abigail. We’re thrilled. But today I thought I’d share what I’ve been wearing while here in Georgia. Actually I have a couple of outfits from before my trip started, too. Let’s get going!

Sizing Information

Just for reference, I’m 5’8″ and weigh about 155. I generally wear a size 8 or medium in dresses, tops, jackets and pants (or 29 or 30 in jeans), so that’s what I’m wearing in these looks unless I tell you otherwise. That way you can assume everything I show you is true to size unless I alert you to sizing up or down. I wear a size 9.5 shoe and, again, I’ll just let you know if I sized up or down in a shoe, otherwise it’s true to size.

What I Wore to Church Last Sunday

First let me share a couple of outfits I wore before I left Cincinnati to come to Georgia. Then I’m going to share my whole packing list and the outfits I’ve worn this week.

Last Sunday I wore my jeans, grey cashmere sweater and black Chelsea boots to church. We have a very casual worship service in a hotel, so this felt warm, comfortable and appropriate for the day. I’ll link you to similar items in the shopping widget below the photo.

I’m just loving how this plaid cashmere scarf is working so beautifully with almost everything I wear these days. It definitely adds a festive touch, but I know I’ll wear it after Christmas, too.

What I Wore to a Ladies’ Christmas Party

Last Tuesday evening I met up with the ladies from my church for dinner at an Italian restaurant. I wore my red wool skirt and camel cashmere sweater with tights and black Chelsea booties. The splash of red was enough to make me feel festive, and I enjoyed wearing a skirt for a change.

While you can certainly wear taller boots, and I do, the Chelsea boots pair with tights for a slightly more modern and youthful look. My skirt is about 6-8 years old and no longer available, but I’ll link to something similar in the shopping widget below. Also, I’m so sad that my Chelsea boots are basically gone and I’m not finding many to substitute. I guess we’re just at that point in the season where wardrobe essentials like these are selling out. However, if I were buying Chelsea boots right now, I would definitely invest in the ones at Thursday Boots Company. In fact, I’m on the waiting list for a pair in honey peach suede. I envision wearing them a lot in the early spring.

What I Packed for My Trip to Georgia

Wednesday I worked so hard to get ahead a little that I really didn’t get dressed in anything to speak of. So we’ll skip on to my trip to Georgia. I’m sharing everything I packed in a widget at the end of the post. That way I can just quickly describe the outfits and the thinking behind them rather than spend too much time linking items.

I’ve worn everything I packed except the ivory bow neck blouse, the black joggers or the grey bateau neck tee. Here are my outfits thus far.

What I Wore to Travel on the Plane Thursday

I’d studied the weather predictions and noticed it wasn’t going to be especially cold until the very end of my trip. That has indeed proven to be true. So I wore my black quilted coat over my black travel pants and the pink soft polyester blend sweater.

My black Chelsea boots were easy to get on and off at the airport. Of course I had on socks underneath them, too. This outfit was comfortable and temperature appropriate.

How I Dressed for Wedding Gown Shopping Friday

I spent most of Friday just visiting with my parents. But then I met Abby around 3:30 for her first bridal shopping appointment. It was a fun evening. We capped off the fun eating out. I wore my black travel pants again, this time with my lavender cashmere polo sweater.

In full disclosure, I didn’t take that photo Friday. I forgot to take one in this outfit, so I slipped it back on Sunday afternoon and snapped this photo. But this is exactly what I wore for the evening. This is definitely one of my favorite sweaters of the season.

What I Wore Bridal Shopping Saturday

I felt sharp and comfortable in my black wool skirt and camel cashmere sweater Saturday. It was a great elevated casual outfit for the day of shopping.

Here’s a photo we snapped after Abby had picked out her wedding gown. It’s a lovely dress and I can’t wait for you to see it. But it’s under wraps until the big day. Even her daddy doesn’t get to see it, according to the bride’s wishes.

She’s going to be a beautiful bride!

How I Dressed Sunday

Sunday we went out to lunch and I wore my jeans and red v-neck cashmere sweater.

I had been a little concerned about not having my brown booties with me. But wearing just my black ones has proven to be no problem at all. I think the key was having my black leather belt with me. That duo really has pulled my outfits together.

That evening Abby’s future family and I attended her church’s Advent service. Abigail was one of the narrators and it was good to see her on stage again. She has a BFA in theater performance, but has tabled her acting for now. I’m really hoping she starts pursuing it again eventually. Anyhow!

I wore my navy slacks, dark green cashmere sweater and tweed jacket. I’d originally planned to wear my ivory bow neck blouse with this outfit, but it was getting colder and the sweater sounded like a smarter choice. That proved to be correct. I added a couple of necklaces from my mother’s jewelry box.

How I Dressed for Lunch and Coffee Monday

Because I’d been up quite late working Sunday night, I slept in a little Monday. Later Mom and I went to Chicken Salad Chick for lunch. That afternoon I went to the home of Abigail’s future in-laws for coffee. It was all very casual, but I wanted to look my best, too.

On this outfit I thought I’d show you the progression of how I put this one together.

It started out as just jeans and a camel sweater. I love the combination of jeans and camel. But I knew I could do better.

So I gave the sweater a bit of a front tuck and added my black belt. These jeans are a little big on me, so tucking a little is absolutely no problem. Remember, as long as your proportions cooperate, you don’t have to have a perfect figure to tuck your top. But that tuck and belt really ties the look together and makes this simple jeans and sweater combo look so much more elevated. Plus, these proportions are better for me.

It was blustery and cold outside, so I knew I could wear my cashmere scarf comfortably, even inside. I looped the scarf around my neck for a little interest and a great splash of color. I also added my leopard print and black crossbody bag.

Then I added the only coat I brought on my trip. This quilted coat has served me very well. It’s light enough for more temperate days. But I can layer on warmth with it when it gets cooler.

By the way, I’ve loved how well it’s worked to have my black tote and my black leopard print crossbody. I just tucked the crossbody into the tote when travelling.

Blessed for My Day

It’s a sad truth, but it must be acknowledged, especially if we are to comprehend the significance of this Christmas season. We live in a dark world. In our world evil prevails, pain permeates and suffering prolongs. Some days it’s more than we can bear.

But Jesus, the Light of the world, came into this dark world and offers light to the weary sojourner. While we live in this world, we will continue to feel and experience the heaviness of the darkness around us. But look hard to the horizon and you will see that the Light of Christ continues to shine, inviting us to hope and assuring us of a New Day. One day, very soon, the Light will completely banish the darkness and we will no longer feel its weight. Meanwhile, we must choose to walk in the light and share that light with those around us.
