Yesterday I did something I haven’t done in almost 26 years. I attended a women’s Bible study. I actually taught women’s Bible studies for about 29 years. But I took one little break from teaching right after my daughter was born and participated as a student for one semester. Other than that, I’ve rarely sat down as a pupil in a women’s Bible class. I have to admit, yesterday felt a little awkward, being completely new and all. But new beginnings often do. Right? Today I’m sharing what I wore to women’s Bible study.
Women’s Bible studies are like many other events or social gatherings we gals attend. They call for casual, comfortable but stylish clothing. Well, I guess style is technically optional. Hahaha! But honestly, not for this gal.
I picked up these moss green girlfriend chinos at the Talbots anniversary sale for 25% off. The sale is still on, of course. And these lightweight, easy-to-wear pants come in several other great neutrals, too. I’m wearing my usual size 8, so they’re true to size with a roomy fit.
After wearing my black v-neck tee several times, I wondered why I hadn’t bought a white one. Well I fixed that. This softly fitted white tee is such a nice thickness and the v-neck keeps its shape, even after washing and drying. I’m wearing a small.
I just tucked my t-shirt in the front, but I’m also wearing this classic leather hip belt because my pants feel a little more secure with it. Plus I think a belt peeking through your cardigan or jacket adds polish to your outfit.
My hooded cardigan is from Evereve. I know their clothes are a little pricey, but this oh-so-comfy cardigan is marked down to a very reasonable price. I’m wearing a small with ample room for layering. The fabric is full of soft stretch, so you can push the sleeves up, too. I think this lightweight sweater is ideal for sitting in an air-conditioned classroom, restaurant, airplane, or what have you. And the neutral heather taupe color makes it extremely versatile.
Don’t you just love the understated plea for attention from these soft suede camo flats? I like that the camo is subtle and the silhouette of the shoes is sweetly feminine. I’ll be wearing these with jeans and my caramel colored cords, too. They’d also be cute with a denim skirt and similar white tee and neutral cardigan. Ooh! And white jeans!
Don’t forget to add a little jewelry, ladies. These are the three pieces I reach for most often: my Gorjana adjustable necklace (sold out, but here’s a pretty option on sale), my brushed gold teardrop earrings and my classic gold bangle. I always wear my silver adorned hearts ring.
This faux leather hobo bag is sold out in tan, but I think it looks even more luxurious in black. And the price is oh so sweet!
By the way, I carried this cognac or tan bag because it coordinates with my belt. But this outfit would also look beautiful with all taupe accessories. I just don’t happen to have a taupe belt. And black accessories would work, too. But I wouldn’t wear the taupe sweater with a cognac belt and a black bag. That would just be too many contrasting tones and would distract from the overall appeal of the outfit. Make sense? So while everyting doesn’t have to match, it helps keep the look more cohesive and pleasing to the eye to have a proportionate balance.
Well, that’s what I wore to Bible study! I enjoyed my morning. In fact, I met some other ladies who go to the same rec center where I exercise. One of them is a trainer there. We enjoyed visiting with each other, and now I’ll be able to say hello when I see them exercising.
Whenever I could tell that my children didn’t want to do something because it was new and awkward, I always promised them that good things lie on the other side of awkward. We just have to press through to get to them. I found that to be true yesterday at Bible study.

Are you part of a Bible study? While I’m a firm believer in gathering with others to study the Bible for accountability and fellowship, you can certainly study the Bible on your own, too. But I do encourage you set up some form of regularity and accountability for studying God’s Word.
I attended a Bible Study Fellowship yesterday. But in the past I’ve taught Precept Bible studies. Both, as well as Community Bible Studies, offer classes all over the country and world. But you can also find Bible study groups at local churches and online. If you’re a part of a Bible study group, tell me what you like about it. If you’re not, consider doing like me and checking one out. There are wonderful things on the other side of awkward!
Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth. ~ 2 Timothy 2:15
Right now I am doing Jerry Bridges, The Practice of godliness It is great. I did Putsuit of holiness, first. So good!
Ah, yes. I went through the Pursuit of Holiness years ago. A classic.
Love your haircut ?
Thanks so much, sweet gal!
The Evereve cardigan is so pretty and so is your haircut! Have a great time at the ball game⚾️
Thanks so much Deb. I’m really enjoying my new do!
Good morning. First, I love your new hair style. I love the colors your are wearing. I would wear that ensemble. I truly believe bible study is important. I help facilitate and attend our faith formation classes. Oh, good luck to your baseball team. I am a Houston Astros fan. Blessings on your day.
Thanks so much. We rooted for the Astros, too, when we lived near Houston for 6 years. That was when my son started attending major league games. Fond memories!
I love the “good things lie on the other side of awkward”! I must remember this when I retire in a few months and branch out to new adventures 🙂 I attended BSF for several years before I returned to work full-time. I hope to rejoin or find a similar study after the first of the year.
Your hairstyle is very flattering too!
Thanks so much, Helen. Yes, we often must go through “awkward” to get to the really good things in life! Thanks for reading.
Love your hair this way! Have I missed dressing my body shape – rectangle?
Hi Teri. No, I just never had the time I need to dedicate to that post this week. So hopefully I’ll churn a couple of those out next week! Stay tuned!
Super cute outfit! Yes, I attend a women’s bible study every Tuesday after work 🙂 I am 52 and the youngest one there. I purposefully wanted to attend a female only bible study because it seems easier to discuss a lot of things with no men listening. It’s really a judgement free but hold you accountable zone which is what I love about it. We have had a few lessons when we invited our husbands to attend with us.
Hi Kara. That sounds like a great situation. Yes, I love discussing things with women, too. Thanks so much for sharing!
I loved your long hair but your new haircut is so very flattering on you! I love Bible Study Fellowship, and though I’m in a different Bible study format this year, I have a long history with BSF. BSF is where I got grounded in God’s Word and really grew in my walk with the Lord. You are right though, the important thing is we get into God’s Word daily whether it’s on our own or with a group of people. Have a blessed day Kay! ??❤️??
Thanks so much for sharing Nancy. I’m looking forward to this session with BSF. I think it’s just what I need for this season of life. Have a wonderful day!
Kay, what is your other website? I signed up for it several months ago but I’m not receiving anything. Is this the one with your Bible teaching?
Hahaha! I hav
Hahaha! I haven’t posted anything on it in a couple of months. But I’m getting back on it next week. KayHarms.com Thanks for asking.
Love your haircut! At our church we attend Bible study & prayer meeting on Wed nights and I also teach our teen girls’ Sunday School class. And…..GO BRAVES!!!!
Hahaha! Yes, I’m a Braves fan too. I worked for them in their PR office years ago. ?
Love your new hair style!
BSF it is for me in the Cleveland area! Our study this year in Acts and Letters of the Apostles is riveting so far! I pray the Lord grows your love for him and helps you connect with many new women in your new area Kay. The accountability to meet God in His Word daily is the greatest blessing for me to be in a solid Bible Study. Wondering if you would be able to add a Pinterest “pin” button to your outfit pics? It’s a little quicker than taking a screen shot and sending it to Pinterest. Also, love your color combo! I have almost the same pieces and am going to put them on today!!
Hi Karen. I’ll work on the Pin button, but meanwhile there is a Pinterest button at the bottom of the post that should work for you. Thanks for sharing ☺️
Love your haircut – it’s so flattering on you. I agree about the belt and bag color (never thought about that before).
My husband is from Cincinnati and we visit twice a year so I am enjoying hearing about your adventures there!
Love the new hair cut, Kay!
You look great in this outfitM
I love your outfit! I know you said the pants are the “dark sage” color, but they look more like the “summer sage” color. Is it just the lighting in the pictures?
Yeah, I’m pretty sure they are the dark sage. Actually the picture gets the color pretty accurate, but the Talbots website makes dark sage look darker than it is. Summer sage is much lighter in reality.
Oh, got it! Thanks!
Love your new haircut, Kay! You look smashing! Great fall update!
