Winter Road Trip – What to Wear in the Car

One of the things I love about living in Arizona is discovering new, interesting places to visit within a day’s drive. I’m all over a good road trip! What about you? While, depending on the length of the trip, I may take jeans or slacks to wear when we reach our destination, I prefer to wear something really comfortable if I’m going to be in the car for more than a couple of hours. So today I’m sharing my winter road trip picks for what to wear in the car.

These Pure Jill separates from J.Jill are amazingly soft and easy to wear. When I’m in the car all day I want to wear something that looks presentable and put together, but I want clothing that feels very comfortable. Neither of these pieces is heavy or exceptionally warm, and that’s the way I like my road trip outfit, since we keep the car fairly warm. But I did slip a tank on under this top for added warmth since I was going to be posing for pictures outside.

I had originally been drawn to the soft pink version of this top, and I still think it is so pretty. But the green looks good with my light green eyes, so I chose it. The top also comes in black and soft grey heather.

Sometimes James and I take one-day road trips, too. A few years ago we went to the Whitewater Draw wildlife area where thousands of Sandhill Cranes migrate during the winter months. It was amazing and sobering watching all of those large birds fly into the draw in V formation. This would be a great ensemble to wear on a day trip like that.

By the way, I wear a small in these J.Jill separates. And I really think I might should have tried on the x-small top. Their clothes tend to run a little large in my experience.

When we’re going to be in the car for more than an hour, I generally take my iPad mini to read. Don’t you like my pretty Vera Bradley cover for my tablet? It’s a retired pattern, but they have so many others to choose from. And, driving through the desert, it’s all the more important to take plenty of water along, so I carry my Swell water bottle.

These reptile embossed slip-on sneakers are by Naturalizer so, naturally, they’re very comfortable. They also come in several shades in the perforated version of this sneaker. I think they run true to size.

For the trip home, I’d wear the same comfortable pants, but throw on a simple t-shirt and cardigan. Also this outfit is a little more versatile in case it warms up and you don’t need the long sleeves. By the way, these pants comes in other shades as well. And this cardigan runs quite large, so definitely size down. I’m wearing a medium, and I definitely need a small. It’s marked down and still available in some beautiful colors. It’s wonderfully soft!

My Weekender travel bag is no longer available in this particular pattern, but they have so many other lovely ones to choose from. My daughter and I both have one of these bags, and we use them so very often. They’re perfect for road trips because you’re able to cram them into tight places and they’re easy to tote.
