Not So Christmassy Holiday Outfit

December 1, 2020

Who knew there is actually a correct spelling for “Christmassy?” Ha! And hey, I’m all for Christmassy! I recently decorated our home for Christmas with lots of traditional red and green. But when it comes to putting together holiday outfits for gatherings, festivities or just at home celebrations (‘Cause it’s 2020, after all!), I like to choose pieces that aren’t quite so, well, Christmassy so I can wear them beyond the holidays. So today I’m sharing the first of several holiday outfit ideas, and this one is not so Christmassy.

Not So Christmassy Holiday Outfit
Shimmer Sweater in classic acorn // black stretch corduroy jeggings (or black stretch corduroy straight leg pants) // tassel chain link necklace // thick pave hoop earrings // shoulder bag sold out (substitute) // black Franto Sarto booties

I love adding a little glitter or sparkle to an outfit as a way to elevate it for the holidays. And this shimmer sweater with gently puffed sleeves definitely accomplishes that. I’m wearing a size medium in this classic acorn shimmer sweater.

The shimmer sweater also comes in an equally sparkly winter white. And Ann Taylor has extended their Cyber Monday Sale, so use code CYBER to get 50% off PLUS another 20% off. That’s pretty impressive! Oh, and you get FREE SHIPPING. Oh my. (I have no doubt this sale will end tonight at midnight.)

I’ve worn my black stretch corduroy jeggings with the shimmer sweater, but any dark wash black jeans or pants would work in this outfit formula. I do like the way my black stretch corduroy jeggings add some wintery texture and softness to the combination. Unfortunately my black stretch corduroy jeggings are just about sold out in the Misses fit (there are more sizes available in Petites), but there seem to be plenty of black stretch corduroy straight leg pants available.

Talbots is granting you 30% off full price items, 50% off markdowns and another $50 off each $200+.

Of course another way to add a little sparkle to your outfit is with jewelry. I love having a few pieces of glittery jewelry in my collection for holidays and other special occasions. It’s funny. I often feel a little overdressed when I first put it on. I think it’s because I wear sparkly jewelry so rarely and I just need to get used to it. Because I always love the effect on other people or when I see myself in photos. So don’t be afraid to sparkle!!

I’m wearing a tassel chain link necklace with shimmery crystal accents and thick pave hoop earrings. Both are available with sale reductions. And I found this beautiful, classy chain link bracelet that would coordinate beautifully without being too matchy, matchy.

leather boots

If your style is more prone to wear heels, you could definitely wear classic black pumps with this outfit. But I chose to keep it casual and a little edgy with my black Franto Sarto booties. These boots are so comfortable and versatile. And they’re still available and marked down 55% for one more day.

Coat

I picked up this Bernardo Ecoplume Hooded Walker coat in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, and it’s sold out in the black. There are x-smalls available in a pretty deep ocean blue or garnet. But I’m linking other Bernardo coats at good prices in the shopping widget below. I’d say this Bernardo Ecoplume Puffer Jacket is probably the closest to mine. This coat is extremely soft and lightweight, but oh so cozy and warm.

Coat

Unfortunately my black Coach courier bag sold out quickly when they brought it back for the Black Friday sales. But I’ll keep an eye on restocks. Meanwhile, I’ve linked to a couple of comparable bags I found at Nordstrom Rack in the shopping widget below. I especially like this Marc Jacobs hobo bag. (It also comes in a Christmassy red!)

Blessed for My Day

Yesterday I shared the first portion of Mary’s Magnificat. In the next portion of her prayer of praise and adoration, she shared some hard things that God had done. At first glance, these don’t seem like blessings, but cursings. Why would Mary praise God for scattering and bringing down and sending away empty-handed?

I’ve learned over the years that sometimes God has to deal sternly with me. And while those bringings down, scatterings and sendings away feel painful at the time, they are indeed blessings. We can trust that God is always at work for our good. He does what is necessary to bring us eternal and significant good. Praise the Lord for being consistent and loving, no matter what that may look like in our lives.

He has done mighty deeds with His arm;
He has scattered those who were proud in the thoughts of their hearts.
He has brought down rulers from their thrones,
And has exalted those who were humble.
He has filled the hungry with good things,
And sent the rich away empty-handed. ~ Luke 1:51-53

  1. Good morning Kay! I do like to add sparkle or bling to my outfits. While I do it during the holidays, I also have been known to add some bling year round. Your necklace is beautiful and is perfect with your outfit. This is a very nice outfit on you. I bet the light snow is pretty. We actually had spitting snow last night, which is unusual this far south in GA. I hope that you have a great day!

  2. You are beautiful, w such understated elegance and sincere kindness! Thanks for always sharing your faith, Kay!

    1. I love the color and shimmer of the sweater you are wearing unfortunately I think the puffy sleeves are not flattering. I hope the puffy sleeve trend will not last long. . B

      1. Hahaha! It took me a while to get on board. And it’s still not my favorite silhouette. But I do think it’s feminine and pretty for special occasions. But understandably not for everyone. 😉
